spent the night at Madras Oregon in preparation for the next day rafting trip. This city girl was shuttled to the county fair by friends who took off to party and I wandered onto a cowboy poetry contest. I was mesmerized by their wit and charm as I had never known of such a thing. years later, I became president of a flight club and organized the annual air fair. fond memories of putting together the "hangar lies" contest where the old timer, ww2 bomber and fighter pilots competed with outrageous and clever stories or poetry. the prize was a cow pie made of chocolate and coconut with a plastic fly on it.

She stood there whining But her eyes were a shining As she wagged her little fluffy tail While I loaded my gun We both loved the fun Of hunting down a long autumn trail She'd chase us a deer Grab a squirrel by the ear And for a poodle she wasn't half bad But the sound of her bark When it was long after dark Was what would always make me so mad She'd run up ahead And ignore what I said And I followed her down through the woods But she'd play and have fun Until the sound of my gun Then she would run just as fast as she could
