The way Elmo read the situation so perfectly. He KNEW exactly what Louden was thinking and feeling and what was needed. Louden was trying to downplay the significance of the event because he was feeling nervous and overwhelmed by the enormity of it all. Elmo's life experience was invaluable here. Moments matter. You gotta show up.

I wrestled for 3 years in high school and had some exciting wins, but the most memorable win was from one of my teammates. He had lost every match, most by pins. We were at a tournament, and he was wrestling a kid that had beat him a few times. There were several mats going at one time, and we had teammates on more than one. Suddenly everyone on the team started watching one mat. It was the one with the kid who had never won. He had the best match of his life and won. We went wild. He could have quit, as so many have done, but he never gave up. That was the most inspiring match I ever saw. It showed the heart of a wrestler. Those were a great 6 minutes.

Wrestled in HS...3 years...was never a starter... but as a Freshman..in an exhibition match i started us out at 98lbs...and pinned my guy with like 30 seconds left... everyone knew me the next day!...it was pretty goddamn glorious!!

There were a lot of sports movies in the 80s but this one was a cut above, probably because it wasn't a movie about wrestling. It was very much a coming-of-age story. Lauden's pursuit of an improbably victory on the matt ties the story together but the story is about so much more than that and, as was clear in this scene, even the supporting characters have a relatable realness to them.

The kids of today should watch this. No participation trophies back then. This movie was about making yourself uncomfortable. Tasking yourself to do something you have a lot of self doubt over. But you do it anyway.

Great movie. This scene was very well written. Its about others watching you when you didnt expect it. Thats why Loudon was concerned when Almo didnt show up for work. Then he found out the Chef has really been paying attention to his vision and all the sacrifices he has made. Back then, you only got paid when you showed up for work so taking a day off was unexpected. What I have noticed from that time and currently in 2023 (January 16) is that people have always been watching others closer than others think. Its just in the 2023 era, everyone posts about it on social media. I am not a big high school wrestling fan but this movie was spot on. #15 GCIT softball, just know I was always watching and studying. Dad !!!

I saw this scene when I was young. I liked the movie for the obvious reasons, but this scene I found immediately affecting and memorable. I didn’t understand completely why then, but as an adult with my own kids I understand it better now. When you can see a person demonstrate greatness, do something you can never do, it is rare, unforgettable and moving. Kind of like this scene! I don’t know much about this actor, but it may be the best thing he’s ever done, and I appreciate it.

Had a Blue Collar boxing match in October. I had a heart attack a while back and training boxing was my rehab. At 58 I was getting into the ring with a 31 year old power lifter who outweighed me by forty pounds. I was thinking about this speech while I was waiting for my time. it was an ok movie. it was supposed to be teenage Rocky but wasn't all that sad and definitely no actual drama, but this film will always hold a special place in my heart for what i considered hollywood's most underrated movie speech in any movie ever...except Quint in Jaws, but i did say "underrated!" lol. this fcker came out of no where to give this 6 minute speech, it was the best part of the whole movie by far where i honestly don't recommend any other scene or even watching the whole thing general. this was the HS principle's response to billy madison's answer about the french industrial revolution question in Billy Madison. other than that, the movie wasn't great. parts far outweigh the sum!
