I don't know why anyone would complain about the correct pronunciation of names. Happens on other sports (like baseball) too. The announcer would pronounce Latino names with a Spanish accent, and some fans would complain about his pronunciation not being "American". Like, what the hell, man?

I'm French but born in Calgary. My dad left when I was five and never learned my Language or part of my heritage. When I was young and ignorant I even was mad that french people demand we put equal language on products and would say "we don't live in Quebec why do they bother us." Not even realizing what I lost because I was fully English "squarehead" I understand now how important keeping our heritage is not only the French language but our core values that keep us who we are. I wish I had the wisdom you have of both sides and I appreciate your respect for your dedication to what I never got to have in my life. Thanks for keeping the "flame" burning brother.

I'm a long time Roy and Avalanche fan. I put Roy first for a reason. He is the reason why I became an Avs fan. I have a really weird view on Roy. I am still a huge fan. I loved his time as Avalanche coach as well. However, the way he left definitely makes it hard to say he should coach again. I'll cheer for him no matter what but the way he bailed on the Avs and Sakic makes it clear who Patrick looks out for the most. Himself. If he becomes a coach again, prepare for a crazy ride and prepare for the possibility that he could get suspended or quit anytime he snaps at something he perceives as not in his interest. Hopefully he learned you can't quit on a team a few weeks before the season and expect other NHL teams to want to hire you.

lmao... they say the exact same thing about Mike Babcock. Funny thing about Patrick Roy, as a coach, He "Babcocked" himself before Mike Babcock did. Pat Roy couldn't deal with Matt Duschesne and Gabriel Landeskog back in 2014, when at least hockey players behaved like hockey players. Do you really think he'll be able to handle a little millennial puke like a Mitch Marner? At least Babcock knew about Anger Management. I'd give Roy 3 months into his second season at the most before his team quits on him... most likely way sooner.

My favorite Patrick Roy moment was the very first NHL game I ever watched. I knew nothing of hockey at 6-7 years old and saw him Game 3 vs NYR 1986 Wales Finals where as I kid I was so impressed by his performance, this was my introduction of hockey seeing Patrick making a performance for the ages. Ironically I think he is the perfect fit for the NYR, already a good team, a coach to help develop the young rising stars of the NYR and bringing a structed style with the NYR, they would be a force next year

Similar story for me. 8 year old in Vancouver when I watched my first full game. It was the semi final of the 1998 Nagano Olympics. Canada vs Czech Republic, Roy vs. Hasek. I was in Denver when we got the Avs and began my interest in NHL hockey. It was all new to us and myself but the Avs maintained my interest because with Joe and Peter, Footy, and “Claude,” well, it was apparent to me these guys had a high level of skill, not muscle. My Patrick Roy memory was that, my team was good, but once he joined mid-season, we became very good. Now, wins were taking place nightly, and hockey fever was mounting in the Mile high city. Raising the cup year 1, brought the first professional championship to a second place city, and that city changed. I agree with you, the 2-rings in my ears comment was a classic, smash-mouth comment in a man’s arena. Thanks for being someone who has said something good about Patrick. Mostly rare in the media.

My favorite Roy moment was when the Red Wings had a breakaway and he made the save, then made two more saves on the rebound shots (each one a distinct move) all in about a second and a half. Of course, one of my least favorite memories was also against the Red Wings when he gave up the goal after the stupid Statue of Liberty pose. I also remember joking with my brother-in-law about how we needed to nail Roy's skates to the ice because he loved to skate around outside the net so much. So I gotta put his attempt to skate coast to coast (which he was penalized for because goalies can't cross center ice with the puck) as one of my favorite memories too.

I'm 38 now, and will never get my chance to see him live again, but I'm so glad I got it in the 90s. I still have that same poster. I still have my 1996 Roy jersey before the stanley cup win that year. That jersey still has the chili dog stain on it since then. Never rewashed it, cuz.... Why would I... That stain was Hella good luck. I mean, it's been washed, but not at a good enough degree where the chili staineft it's mark. Aint no tide pod gona touch it! I also have those pucks that BURGER King or McDonald's, or whoever, put out for the 96 avalanche team. I have them all and the stand. Ontop of that, I have a Ricci signed Puck. The man is insane, and I'd give it 5 months before he does something to make whoever hires him regret it. Also, he's a little too old school. You say that but everyone single player that ahs been coached by him claim that he is the best. He is hard on his enemies but he know how to manage his allies.

@@dilididli2274 Pretty sure most of the Avs aren't super happy with how he bailed on them mere weeks before the season.

@@dilididli2274 not the Colorado Avalanche... that dressing room was eerily silent about that whole matter. They loved him at first, but I think his anger management, or lack thereof, turned that tide by December of that season. He had issues with certain players that deserved it, Matt Duchesne, and certain players that didn't, Landeskog, I would ask long time buddy of his Joe Sakic about what he thinks of Patrick Roy value as an executive. Whatever good Roy does is cancelled out by his toxic behavior within the first season. I always say, a retired NHLer can get away with a lot when coaching a bunch of junior players, most of whom will never see the inside of an NHL dressing room in any real sense... but try those same antics with established millionaire millennial NHLers? LMAO - I'd give him 5 months - at the most. Same reason why Gerard Gallant never seems to last more than 2 seasons as coach anywhere. Players today cannot be coached, you have to negotiate with these little arseholes. They'd "Marner" Patrick Roy so fast, it would make his head spin.

That argument with boudreau wasn’t “one of his first” games as Avs head coach. It was THE first game he coached for us. It was exactly what we were looking for in our new guy. Some fire. And that 2013-14 season was magical up until the end. That team was stacked. I legit cried after game 7 vs minnesota. I fucking HATE the wild. I’m a huge Vikings fan so whenever I go to minnesota I make sure to pack some Avs merch with me. In fact, in 2016 my dad and I went to us bank stadium for the 1st time (saw Vikings vs lions, golden tate won it in ot right in front of us, I was fucking LIVID) we went to do a tour of the new digs and there I am in all the photos. Touring us bank stadium, wearing my Matt duchene jersey. Don’t ever have to wonder where MY allegiances lie 😂😂

Patrick Roy is my favourite player of all time. Even as a Canucks fan. He's legitimately, in my view, the best goalie (certainly in the playoffs) that the NHL has ever seen. But he's got some ego problems that make me dislike him as a person. Leaving the Avs the way he did speaks volumes about his selfishness. Just like the way he quit on the 2002 Canadian Olympic team just because he wasn't immediately named as the starter. Again, amazing goalie, probably the greatest of all time, but not exactly the best person.
