Just the video I needed to find. The nipple on the top left of my header tack has snapped off. New tank coming tomorrow so a job for the weekend.

Job well done, nice and easy and without the camera a 10-minute job with a brew to swap it out.

A helpful and informative video as per usual however you mentioned you replaced the boot struts. I'd be grateful if you could say which ones you got because I'm in need of some and the price seems to vary quite a bit. Thanks in advance

I bought these at £12 each. They seem fine but they have only been on there a day. I will post a video on replacing them soon. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Boot-Gas-Strut-Jaguar-X-Type-Saloon-C2S1687-Replaces-1X43F406A10AB/264370651941?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648

Great video. I know it was a Long time ago but how much coolant do I need to buy once I have replaced the coolant tank? I’ve flushed out the system so it is empty. A full refill is required. I have found conflicting info on how much the capacity is. I think it’s 8.25 litres but need confirmation. I’m going to be using the same pre mix you use in the video. Thanks in advance.
@johnnysevengun2 жыл бұрын
Jag manual says the capacity is 10 litres. So 5ltrs of coolant and 5 ltrs of distilled water to make 50/50 mix as recommended. There will probably be some fluid left in even after flushing.

Hello and Greetings from Australia my friend... Just a quick question if I may.. ? What is the lower thermostat to oil cooler hose called 🤔 I seem to have a leak from mine as advised by a mechanic... Forgive my ignorance 😊
@johnnysevengun Жыл бұрын
These vary from model to model and auto to manual. I would look up oil cooler hose on ebay and try to find one that looks the same.

Thank you for this post. Did you establish that you had indeed have a blown head gasket from the gas test? I did so on my x-type, and was present when gas test carried out instantly turn to yellow. Yet my x-type performing well but the darn cap on expansion tank keeps breaking off and repeatedly have to wrestle and prize out the remaining part, most infuriating! Almost daily replenishing the coolant reservoir with minimum 1 litre of Halfords anti-freeze. Please excuse me being long winded. Did this procedure resolve your problem otherwise ?

It worked out that the head gasket was leaking. I cured it with Steel Seal. I did another video on that which may help. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5OzdKeridt4aKM

I'm losing water from mine its not the cap I put kitchen roll round it with a tie and it was dry but the screw area that holds the bottle is wet and ridge on bottle . Pipes are all good . When car ticks over no problems only when am driving so can't tell where is leak.
@johnnysevengun2 жыл бұрын
You should consider putting Steel Seal in the system. If it is losing water without leaking it is probably going through the head gasket. kzbin.info/www/bejne/q5OzdKeridt4aKM

@@johnnysevengun according to my mechanic its not a head problem. Hopefully its a crack in bottle

@@johnnysevengun it is leaking . Water is on expansion bottle ridge and spray on some areas near. Cheers

That is exactly how mine split out - a real devil to diagnose because the split heals itself later.

That electric bit that it might leak on? Whats that called and how do you replace it if the coolant has been leaking on it for awhile. I just ordered a new head because the old one was cracked, but i am worried that there might be some damage to the electrical for so long.
@johnnysevengun5 ай бұрын
That is the main loom coming from the fuse box. You can buy second hand ones quite cheaply but I would try to dry it out and clean it with contact cleaner first.

I am losing coolant out of my x-type, I cannot find the leak, I have changed the coolant tank but I am seeing white smoke come out of my exhaust, also my oil light is coming on I have changed the oil pressure switch with an original oem, also the engine makes a rattling sound when I accelerate but when the car is at idle the engine sounds fine,I am also losing oil but no physical leak.
@johnnysevengun4 жыл бұрын
That does sound like the head gasket is going. The water is seeping into the engine. Try treating it will Steel Seal - I am going to be doing that next week. Scotty Kilmer does a couple of good videos on it.

Concept Symetry Guitars I just ordered 2 bottles of steel seal that is what’s required for a v6 engine,I plan on just adding them to my existing coolant and letting the car idle for 30 minutes with the heater on max, I do not want to drain my existing coolant.
@johnnysevengun4 жыл бұрын
@@fresh55n9ne As long as the coolant is fresh it shouldn't matter. I only bought one bottle for a 2.5ltr off Amazon. They must do different sized bottles.

Most of your videos are pretty good...but this one bites brother. Show how to do the whole process if your going to advertise an "Expansion tank change!" Why not take a person through the whole journey?
@johnnysevengun2 жыл бұрын
I am not sure what you mean. Apart from not showing me dropping the tank on because it is exactly the opposite of taking it off - I go through how to seal it , test it and make sure everything is connected.
@daddylogan2 жыл бұрын
@@johnnysevengun I apologize for my tone brother. I suppose I wanted to see you put the new tank on as well and was bummed that was left out. I think I was just in a bad mood from watching other jag videos where they skip right over crucial steps and I was frustrated by the time I came around to your video. You do good stuff and have always enjoyed your X-Type vids.
@johnnysevengun2 жыл бұрын
@@daddylogan Thanks. Sometimes I leave things out because I think they are obvious - other times is because it was a two hand job and I film using an Ipod as i am doing the work. In this case the plastic tank literally just drops on so i didn't think it was important. I will be more careful in the future.
