I went to STC last week for the first time since the pandemic. The 925 and 996 buses actually got me there faster than the subway/LRT route I used to take. I will shop there more often now. The IKEA cafeteria is great!

I honestly don't remember the food there and if it was good, but I remember the fish tank with the lettuce on a string for feeding fish and all the shiny rocks they'd sell

I've lived in Kingston since 2002 and hadn't been to the STC for a decade previous to that.....However, when I was a teen, the STC was the place to drive to, even though Fairview and the Don Mills Centre were both a lot closer(It was literally 4 stops on the 54 West bus.)` Obviously all of those have changed but the STC will always hold a special spot in my heart, especially because of the Hobby Place there, where I bought my Estes rockets and Tamiya models. Thanks for the walk with you.

If it weren't so cold out, you might of stumbled across the Toys "R" Us that is only accessible for some reason from the outside (beside Decathlon), as well as the Cineplex theatre and numerous restaurants surrounding the mall area. Good for dinner meet-ups in the area. This is my local mall and enjoyed seeing it from your perspective. Like you said, it's pretty generic, but it gets the job done for the essentials you want/need. On special weekends, STC also hosts themed markets that support local and smaller businesses, which is cute and builds community. Thanks for the walkthrough. Oh, it was also funny seeing the nail tech who just did my nails walk by one of your frames 😂. Happy and safe walking in your journeys to come ☺️

Good to see my old stomping grounds. I spent a lot of time at the Scarborough Town Centre, as well as at Woodside Mall and Cedarbrae Mall, when I was growing up. It’s definitely changed a lot since I was a kid.

The Xscape entertainment center is the arcade section of the Ciniplex movie theater. They've closed off mall access since lockdown, but you can only get in from the outside parking lot doors. I got really tired of this mall after always coming here for our kids Saturday pre-swimming lesson snack. Its been my family's goto when we moved out to Scarborough. But I've been visiting this mall since the days the food court was in the upper level where the Jollibees was, and the mall had water featured with colourful hot air balloons.

I used to hang out at the STC in the 70's when I lived in Toronto for a few years. I remember a water fountain which was a feature at the time. It was fun to watch powerful jets of water shooting up in the air.

I live in the area of the STC. For me, between the city and Scarberia, it's by GO transit only. York Mills and Yorkdale run GO to the STC. Or the Stouffville GO train from Union to Agincourt GO, continued by TTC express bus to STC. As always, a great video.

Wow so much memories of Scarborough town centre good ones and bad ones. Mostly good though. I live in Cambridge and I got to admit a part of me miss seeing the landmarks I’m used to seeing in Toronto. Cambridge honestly feels like a whole different world. Thanks for the video.

I worked at the Cineplex movie theatre briefly in the fall of 1985. The theatre had 12 screens and was located in the area of the mall that is being renovated. I was only there for a few months before I was transferred downtown. I rode line 3 to and from work everyday. I was last at the mall in 2015 before I moved out of Toronto that summer. The mall has changed a lot in almost ten years.

I agree on STC's blandness post-renovations. I wonder if that's because Oxford didn't want to invest as much as Yorkdale or Square One because of the major demographic changes in the area + median income. STC is having trouble finding retailers to fill spaces, and most of the current spaces are filled by random odd shops that don't fit a certain niche or bring additional character to the mall.

Square One is not even in the same league as Yorkdale 😂 Square One and Scarborough are both in same league. Yorkdale is upscale.

@@ahmedzakikhan7639 No way you've been to both STC and SQ1 post-renos and think they're the same. Yes, SQ1 isn't at the level of Yorkdale. No mall is in the GTA,. But to say STC and SQ1 are the same tells me you've only been to one of the malls or you're just being ignorant. SQ1 has Apple, Holts, Simons, Alo, Arcteryx...a lot of stores people consider "premium" brands. It even has a Goodlife in there. Architecturally outside and inside both Yorkdale and SQ1 are better and offer way more than STC.

Hey Johnny, its Cineplex Entertainment is the Cineplex movie theatre with the entertainment holding up the mall entrance because of Coronavirus; so the entrance to Cineplex is from outside the mall.

One thing you forgot to mention was that Line 3 was closed 3-4 months in advance because of a derailment that sent five people to hospital. Unfortunately a year after, it remains a huge loss for the people of Scarborough as TTC missed out on some opportunities to upgrade the line, commute times have obviously increased and a busway hasn’t started construction yet. Average time from Malvern neighbourhood to Kennedy station is around 45 minutes on the 133 Neilson bus for instance).

Seems like imposed values - so much space in all malls dedicated to shopping - buy buy buy. Would be grand if there was a greenhouse inside the mall with tree canopies, even if only plastic trees to give the impression of being outdoors - bet stores would make more money. Trees and nature are calming, whereas bright fluorescent treeless areas are generally not so.
