Sobeys, don't forget about Sobeys! Their price is even worse, we should boycott them both even after May until they reduce their price to acceptable level. It's not only the high food prices, it's how the Weston's exploit workers and with the help of Employment Ontario. Taxpayer and corporate donors, through my office, for example, pay the Weston family to hire our clients. Often, once the subsidy is over, our clients are let go or their hours are cut from 24 to 10/15 per week. Canadian Tire and Tim Horton's are just as bad as the Westons. They have no business receiving money to hire people especially with record profits during and since COVID. All of our clients who work for Shoppers Drug Mart complain to me because they only get part-time hours. And I have on means to remedy that. And what about the Meds Check scandal?! How is that even legal? Billing us $75 for bogus calls, to meet manager targets? The Westons get away with EVERYTHING. And people here are too complacent.

I live in a small town with an Independent and Walmart right next to each other. The Walmart parking lot is always full of cars and the Independent is almost always empty. Since we have been retired my husband does most of the grocery shopping. He checks every flyer and compares prices between, Independent, Fresco, Walmart and Giant Tiger. Independent rarely has the better prices at least on the items we regularly buy. I feel sad for the young couple who operate the store. I am sure they know that the high prices and the negative publicity is not helping them run the kind of family operated store of the past.

Shopers DM charges almost $30- bucks for a pair of passport photos, The small convenient sore next to me charges $15- and I don't have to wait half an hour for the staff to hunt down the one whom handles the camera. Shoppers is overpriced on everything. They have their anchor products they sell at a loss, just to lour in customers. Same with Loblaws, They usually showcase their anchor products right at the door, as soon as you step in the store, in hopes of you buy other stuff once inside. They also place the stuff they want you to buy at eye level. Lower priced products are on the bottom shelves. It's all psychology. Do your wallet a favor and do NOT buy anything at these predatory places. We get our fruits and vegetables at our local flea market. I usually get 2 bags full of fruits and veggies for about 10 to $15- bucks, The same amount at Loblaws would run me up, towards $100-

Hello. Watched your video with interest. Also read some of the comments. I agree that SOME of the reasons are due to our government's increased tax grabs. Having said that, giving you a personal example. Being a senior with some mobility issues, during the pandemic I found Instacart. Used it out of necessity not luxury. One of the things that have very noticeable changed within Instacart is that ALL of the Loblaws stores have stopped honouring the sales flyers that come out every week. Kudos to stores like Metro, Food Basics and Giant Tiger that DO honour those sale prices. No Frills, Superstore and Loblaws absolutely do NOT. Walmart pays lip service to sales but raises the sale price by $1. The bottom line to all of this is; at the end of the day, it CANNOT be normal for all the large grocery stores to suspiciously have the exact same high percentage increase across the board. COLUSION AND MONOPOLIES!! Shameful.

In Canada we are not celebrating May1 and 2 as International labor Day, 2 days off and paid like in Europe. International seems to mean European, or March 8, again International women day....

This may not go over well but I don’t really struggle with the prices of groceries. I absolutely refuse to buy junk. It’s the Potato Chips, Pop, Cereal, Candy, & just about everything that’s not healthy for you is what raises your grocery bill to an absurd amount. I’m a firm believer in hitting up Walmart first to get my milk, juice, maybe bread, peanut butter, frozen fruit, olive oil, etc. I find that you usually come out on top big time this way. The grocery store to me Is for meat, fruits and veggies. They just take advantage of the convenience factor like Shoppers Drug Mart does. People just need to wise up and take care of their body more. Like do you really need Cookies, chips and all that other crap.

I would agree with you re junk - but - Walmart is a huge privately-owned American company that treats its employees very badly. So I am not comfortable shopping there either. I try to use local shops like Fiesta Foods etc. - as well as Farmers Markets for fresh stuff.

True, but look at the price of meat. It's 2.5x what it was 5 years ago. Even the less desirable meat is priced high now. It almost like they want you to only eat bugs.

Boycotts work. People who are saying this boycott won’t amount to something, I certainly will. The key is to make it last a whole year! The upside is - can you imagine the boost the little grocers will get! It would be amazing. Support local for real!

I agree there is a problem with grocery prices with many different points as to why those prices are high. It's not just the business practices of CEOs. It's not just wars in far away lands. Not just climate change. Not just economics. Each one of these points alone has layers that contributed to higher prices. Thing is I'm not rich by any measure. I check the flyers online each week to plan my shopping. Most of the time, I'm shopping a Loblaws owned store because they are the cheapest. They either are the cheapest on an item or by the time I spend my time and energy to go to another store to buy an item that is a few cents cheaper, I might as well just pick it up at Loblaws. In the end too, where else am I supposed to go to get my groceries during this boycott? Safeway/Sobeys didn't exactly lower their prices to get in those boycotting shoppers. Matter of fact, they raised their milk prices. As a shopper, I feel hooped with little hope other than to eat dust and drink air until government finds a way to allow Loblaws and Sobeys to monopolize those for sale too.

I only shop for anything that’s on sale. I rarely buy anything canned, and buy meat from butchers. I have a big vegetable garden every summer, never ever eat out. It sounds boring it’s actually gratifying and challenging cooking various foods.

I don't go to any of the big box stores. I shop at my local Co-op grocery store and stock up when they have sales. I live an hour from the nearest city. Everything else I buy online.

I only buy frozen fruits when Metro has them for $3.99. So, Loblaws is selling it for a couple of dollars more. However, it seems that several grocery stores are offering less but increasing prices.

There are no independent grocery stores where I live. Yes if you drive 20 minutes you might find some that have specials on but it’s not worsted especially if you are senior. I just shop for the basics. Bake my own bread and cookies and do my own cooking. Only buy what I need. But I agree I don’t have children living with me. I don’t go for restaurant food or coffee. All these things save you money. Groceries are a big factor in ones live but what about the costs that you can’t control like property taxes ,car insurance ,house insurance, utilities . Phones ,I mean land line . You are basically force into having a cell phone which mine is only very basic. Love to cancel cable but hubby is 80 years old and needs some interment . .

There was a time around 2002 when I had this idea of my adult life including shopping in the Loblaws Market at Empress Walk with my kids in a cart and my wife. Maybe stopping by their Cigar store they used to have inside. Using my PC points from my PC Fresh mortgage to pay for everything. Now with inflation and insane prices I'm down to having a moderate rental condo and ordering Walmart grocery delivery. I won't be going to Loblaw's or their affiliates anytime soon.

I would've done fine with Lablows' prices if they explain why their prices are so high and different in their own stores? The stuff they sell is from the same wholesale supplier. I don't see any difference in servise or anything. I usually shop at NoFrills (nearest to me) where Loblaws was before.

I stopped getting my frozen organic berries from rob-law due to being disappointed about the items. Also for Canadian store they don’t support the Canadian good. Now I picked up my wild blueberries at farm boy because it’s from BC and my raspberry and strawberry from Costco because it’s organic and Canadian grown. I shopped mostly at Healthy Planet’s and Big Carrots, and cooked my own foods. I have seniors day at most store and they have good sale items monthly. I’m 75 years, I don’t take any meds for nothing therefore I don’t need a drugstore only for paper towels and bathroom supplies.
