Merci mec.

From what I've read, Kanami still generally writes the main vocal melodies (along with most of the overall composition) but Miku and Saiki have freedom to alter/arrange them. It's become a bit more similar to how she works with Misa and Akane. Kanami gives them the demo, ideas, and/or notes and Misa and Akane pretty much write their own parts now. Kanami has encouraged the others to contribute more to the music composition, for example, "No God" (Misa), and "Blooming," (all members). Saiki is writing more lyrics with Miku and the complete lyrics for "Hate?". She has also been learning both piano AND guitar because she wants contribute more to the writing. It's worth noting that Kanami has never taken the full composition and arrangement credits on any song when she obviously could have. All of those credits are listed as "Band-Maid." They're a pretty impressive group of humans.

Of course, as a die-hard Band-Maid fan, I knew all those wonderfull documentaries, but watching them again "thru your eyes" was totally enjoyable again. And your comments were always insightful - we musicians knows what she's been thru. And so we can guess what incredible strength of character she possesses. She's not someone born with an incredible talent - she had to identify her strengths and exploit them to the full. I admire her, really.

I do envy Miku. She had Kanami as a teacher and that in itself would be a dream come true for any begging guitarist. But to be in the band with her and have Kanami write the guitar parts especially for her knowing what she could and could not do. That in itself would be such a huge confidence builder. And obviously helped Miku to try even harder to learn and improve. Bravo Miku and Kanami, band mates and friends.

I was at the Nashville show and saw you there. I was with a friend and we had a blast at the show (stage right in front of Kanami). Kanami is my favorite member but each one of them are special in their own way. I have never been a fan of a band before that each member was so stand out to me. Miku, at first, was more of just a back up singer to me and then slowly as I discovered more about the band, I realized how important she was. The first time I saw them live was in Chicago '22 and Miku was swearing at us like a drunk sailor for not yelling loud enough during Magic Spell Time. I fell in love with her at that moment. That show was also when I realized how amazing and mesmerizing Saiki was as a singer. The entire band in some way has blown me away. Misa with her mystic amazing Barefoot Assassin presence is just so powerful and Akane on the drums is absolute joy. Kanami is Eddie Van Halen, Santan, Slash and Jimi Hendrix all rolled into one but kick it up a notch when she goes into Mincho mode. This band kicks ass!!!!

I have to admit, personally I gravitate towards Kanami because of my own character and maybe because others describe me as being a creative person, but there is no question that I deeply admire and respect Miku for her dedication, determination and energy that she has put into this band for more than 10 years now. At first glance, she may not look like it, but she is so much more than just the sparkling personality on stage. A deeply admirable woman and a role model imo. 🕊 Shortly after I stumbled upon Band-Maid's music, I learned little bits and pieces about the individual musicians in this band in the comments here and there, and without me realizing it at first, their story and individual personalities have only made me take this band even more to my heart in a way I've never felt about another musician or band before. That Ohrenje and everyone involved in this project have compiled all this information, clips and pictures in the form of this excellent documentary is something I can't thank them enough for. They have also created the perfect resource for any future fan who feels the same way as I do and wants to learn more about Band-Maid. 🙏🏻✨ _____________________ 「 _"Our rock never dies ever. Well done John. I became a Maidiac in 2021 and it took me a year to learn everything about Band Maid. But we can say thank you to Ohrenje for making these definitive documentaries for new fans. It's an initiatory, exciting, funny and moving journey which teaches you that wanting to be a recognized artist or band is a random journey strewn with pitfalls and that luck is necessary even when you have talent. Destiny brought together these 5 unique artists but it is above all thanks to the will of a little pigeon who never gave up. Miku is the brightest star.🌟💖

Just to clarify what DPG was talking about: Miku was practicing her guitar, writing lyrics, being the lead PR person doing all the interviews(everything the other members didn't want to do was part of Miku's job), also most Japanese musicians also have side jobs alongside their music career(at least until they hit it big)

Sheena Ringo also does many different genres, including Jazz. She may have influenced Miku to choose a Rickenbacker as her first guitar, since she has a song called, 'Marunouchi Sadistic', that has the line, "Please give me a Rickenbacker 620" which Miku's choice. Miku had always envisioned dual vocals, but to decide to take up guitar as well as sing was a bold decision, which only worked thanks to her drive and determination. Miku is an unstoppable force. However, she couldn't have ever reached that level of proficiency with out the support of the others. Kanami is a very patient teacher. When she wrote a song that she knew was beyond Miku's capabilities, she then wrote a second song that would help Miku playing improve enough to play the first song. That's the kind of support you rarely find in a working band. And sure, Kanami records both parts, for economy sake, but Miku still has to learn hers for the videos and the LIVE performances well enough to do them while singing. That is no mean feat. Miku would also plays PUBG with MISA online. Miku said she would brag to The Barefoot Assassin how well she did at the bar. Do check out BAND-MAIKO videos if you haven't already.

Cool to hear how you relate your own experiences to those in the video. It gives a unique perspective. About the t-shinji interview, it's not just a big, random fan. He's one of the most important members of the community and has been there from the start. He's made it possible for fans who don't speak Japanese to get a view of what's going on when the band is in Japan. His translations and tireless work in keeping us informed have been truly invaluable and his place in the documenatry is well-earned. His breakdown of Miku's lyrics is amazingly detailed, but here's the most telling lines: "Haven’t you thought Band-Maid songs don’t sound very much like Japanese? Haven’t you ever felt their songs like English songs even though they sing in Japanese? ... Japanese ... syllables have a very simple structure and ideally the same length of time. ... Her level of mastery of note reduction in Japanese is almost unrivaled. Her note reduction is so natural that native Japanese speakers often don’t notice it until they try to sing a Band-Maid song and find they can’t sing it right." If you want an in-depth breakdown with charts, superscript, a discussion of how Japanese syllables ("moras") compare to English, as well as the concepts of "elision", "synaeresis" and "geminates". This is one of the reasons why t-shinji is a legend. One more thing about the "Thrill" video saving the band is that the company was planning for Miku and Saiki to become a performing duo called "Dance-Maid". Can you imagine.

It was a pleasure to re-watch all these documentaries with you being a first-timer. The more you look at the overall picture, the creation of Band Maid was unlike anything I have ever heard of in music. But the thing that strikes me the most is the total lack of personal ego within the group. They are a unit committed to be the best band they can be and they have succeeded to such an amazing degree in such a short period of time. After listening to the guitar segment, you could see how hard she had to work at it despite the other activities she was involved regarding the band. And from the beginning I loved that they had the classic rock band formation of bass, lead guitar, rhythm guitar and drums, with Miku being the bridge between the Misa and Kanami, and with Akane being the band leader and creating her amazing fills. Talking about Band Maiko is always interesting. The only original song from Band Maiko, Gion-Cho, is a tremendous piece of work and the view is not only fantastic musically, but is a work of art in itself. You should react to the video and also the making-of video, which is extremely interesting. I also did some research on the geisha culture to get an idea of what it actually was like and watched some videos that chronicle how present-day maiko and geisha operate. One thing that amazed me is the traditional geisha costume is a full seven layers of clothing that weigh up to 35-40 lbs. in weight. Geisha's have to be dressed as they cannot perform certain tasks as the amount of clothes increases. The final operation, the winding of the obi, or sash, has to be so tight as to act as a corset. Band Maid only wore one or maybe two layers of that clothing, but the costumes are heavy brocade-style fabrics and not easy to move around in, especially trying to play instruments. Reportedly, Akane had to take frequent breaks because the sleeves were quite heavy for her. If you look at the videos, you will see that she doesn't raise her arms above a certain level. One thing is for sure, Saiki has an almost unearthly beauty when in the maiko costume, so regal. Also, making the video in Kyoto in was amazing, as well as Miku writing the lyrics in the particular dialect of the Kyoto region with its many picturesque locations. I've seen Band Maid three times in the calendar year and they are shows I will never forget and I haven't had such a good time since seeing The Doors at the Whiskey au Go Go in LA in 1968 and The Young Rascals in 1967 in NYC. Miku is a very unique and amazing person to have a lifelong dream and bring it to a very successful reality. As always John, great reaction.

You've mentioned fate before, and here's another "fate" tidbit that wasn't in the video: while in her hometown, she ran into a guy called Nesmith from the boyband Exile (27 million albums sold) who was also from her hometown. She told him she wasn't sure about going to Tokyo, but he said go for it. Maybe without encouragement from a successful artist she doesn't go. One more thing: Miku's real name at 12:16 It's after midnight here. I'll finish watching in the morning. Really glad you took the time to do this. I'll probably comment again haha.

I recently did a pilgrimage to Kumamoto - her old maid cafe (which is now an izakaya run by a really cool couple) and the old hotpot shop she used to work at (her old manager still works there and her and Saiki have eaten there before). It’s quite interesting because everything felt small. Small town, small workplaces, too small for our pigeon with dreams of world domination.

These documentaries changed me from "this band is pretty cool" to "I LOVE THEM WITH EVERY FIBRE OF MY BEING." They are all legit musicians and performers, and Miku is the driving force behind it all. I also like Miku's main 3 themes of song writing: -Never give up, be the best "you" you can be. -I like it a little rough. -I love a man I can't be with. He may or may not be married.

And that's what makes the signature Band-Maid sound. The highs (Mincho) and lows (Misa) are free to express themselves whenever they want because Miku has the mid's holding down the melody. Akane can choose to fill in the spaces where ever she wants while pushing the song forward. Saiki's vocals just cut through it all effortlessly while Miku's harmonies add texture. I really don't know another band in memory who has done it this way.

If you liked that clip of that enka singer at the beginning, you have to check out Sachiko Kobayashi, one of Japan's preeminent enka vocalists. I first heard about her when she did a music video of the Wagakki Band hit Yoshiwara Lament with the writer of the song, Wagakki band bassist Asa. She was an excellent singer and had a great stage presence, so I looked up some of her work and she seemed to be a Japanese version of Cher with her costumes and her great vocals. It was very interesting.

I so relate to you having trouble finding anyone to play with. In high-school anyone that played an instrument also played guitar. So you could start a band with 5 guitar players, but thats it. Lol finally found a bass player but drummers were hard to come by and singers were like unicorns. Got to talking about there being no singers with a friend in music theory class and he mentioned that Tim McGraw(yes that Tim McGraw, I was friends with his sister) was a singer. So I was like "dude sign him up, what are you waiting for?" And he mentioned he was a country singer. And my head exploded. Lol country music wasnt a thing in Philadelphia in 1988. It wasnt even a consideration that people that didnt livebin Texas listened to it. Lol

Kobato-san doesn't mention it nor Kasper and Ohrenje, but every time I hear her say "po", it reminds me of someone being respectful to their elders. It's an honorific in the Filipino language/culture.

Regarding whether she writes the vocal melodies, she doesn't. Kanami writes them in the songs but it's not uncommon for Miku to suggest changes to fit her lyrics better sometimes. Also, Miku has asked Kanami to write more backing parts for her voice as well. I believe she said to treat her voice like another instrument (which is really cool so we have a more organic performance of their songs instead of more parts added to the backing track). So even if she isn't singing lyrics, sometimes she is adding another layer to the sound of the song.

Such a work ethic. Playing at an environmental fair for maybe fifty people in the rain and still giving it their all like any other Band Maid show. In another video they are playing on the grounds of a Japanese castle. The crowd is in bleachers about 75 yards away, and Band Maid is giving it their all as usual. Yup, they have definitely earned their success. I wish them much more. (C'mon Steven Colbert!)

24:12 exactly their image is what hurts them. A Lot of people don't give them a change just because of their image. Easily noticeable when share it with friends. In addition their image also attracts the some of the wrong kind of fans. I saw some of them in their show.

1:10:20 This is the funniest interview they've ever done, imo. I tried to post the link of this interview video several times before in other reactors videos, but YT deleted all of my comments every time. YT even deleted my comments when I tried to mention the site name and the video title without the link...🤷‍♂ If you are interested in this interview video, I will paste the link on your X account. 😉

The documentary hardly mention her real name. It's Mika Noguchi. I've heard she changed it to Miku to make it sound less than Misa. Not sure where Kobato came from, but I guess somebody knows?

@ApexRadius
@ApexRadius Жыл бұрын
@@Puyax01 I'd have to assume so, at least in part. That's a big potential reason anyone uses a stage name, aside from image. It seems to be very common among Japanese artists. One other strong motivation is to protect the privacy of their families. Another potential reason is that she used Mika Noguchi (probably her real name) with the idol group and might have wanted to start over using a different name in a different genre/context with fewer preconceived notions. I have also read that she uses "Miku" because "Mika" was too close to "Misa" and might be confusing to the audience. Not sure where she came up with "Kobato" except she seems to like pigeons/doves. I'd guess that it has its origins in a nickname or something like that.

The part about the "straw" you thought Miku was drinking something : In asia it's a popular game with Pocky Sticks. One person hold a stick in their mouth and the other person needs to bite as much of the stick as they dare. The biggest the bite the more it looks like a kiss between the 2 persons. Really popular around valentine day.

A funny thing, in my wife’s native language, TAGALOG, a’Po is used at the end of sentences as a sign of respect when speaking with elders or those in authority. When speaking non-formally many will shorten it to just Po so when I first heard Miku using Po all the time I thought it was normal to the Japanese language as well. 🫣
