I have a very cheap idea . Drop a little bit contact spray over the controler , then move it with the special screwdriver, you will have then a better contact in this controler and the tension is constant . So much thanks from Germany, it´s so interested . You are the BEST !!!!!!!!

B+ power is high voltage DC that is applied to the Plates of the Vacuum tubes in the circuit. "B" was the name of a battery that I believe was 45 volts. At least two B batteries were used to obtain a B+ supply voltage of 90VDC for "Portable" usage.

I'd continue on the Tempest while all the work you've done is still fresh in your memory.

Had similar problem, check, clean and reset the connections to the screen and focus pots. Your HV is absolutely fine. B+ is fine and not wavering.

I am so jealous of the prices in the states. Up here in Canada, the cheapest working game I've found is $450, but starting price for a working game on Kijiji (Craig's list in Canada) is around $800. One close to me was selling and empty cabinet for $200. Love the videos and will start collecting soon!

Try replacing the flyback first and did you replace the caps on the PCB in the cage? If that fails ... move on to HV section.

When My LV200 went out on my Star Wars it also took out the diodes that allowed me to adjust the B+ on the HV board... I will have to check but I think it was D901, 913, 902....

Hi John, You can back probe a connector with a test lead to get your readings and the lead will usually stay in there. Do you have a spare pot you can throw in there just to rule it out, one way or the other? It seems flakey to me. The voltage didn't change and you could adjust it back, so maybe the pot's bad or dirty or corroded. You could turn the game off and spray it out with deoxit, work it full range several times, spray it again and dry it with air. Thanks for the video and keep us in the loop. See you in the next one, BYE!

hey john i think you should just rebuid the b+ box and the flyback you already have the parts and once you do that the monitor should last you years because at that point you would have basically rebuilt the whole chassis keep up the good work love the videos

Well, John. The silver lining here is that at least that monitor is relatively simple and well documented. I got a X68000 monitor here imported from Japan with erratic fluctuating brightness. It has at least four times as many electronic components on its various boards and no documentation whatsoever.

One thing I'm noting is that I can see the vertical refresh of the monitor happening if I play the video in 60fps and that usually doesn't happen. Could there be something wrong with whatever handles the refresh frequency? Do you have another neck board to try out?
@shovelhedded
@shovelhedded 8 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I'd swap he flyback for sure. It's controls are really wiggy! If the focus knob is messing with brightness and turning the whole screen black, why not swap it out if you have one? It obviously has some issues. If the B+ remains unstable after that then do the HV cage rebuild. But it might just be a messy flyback.

Hi John, just a little tip from the Netherlands. You should make a mark on that pot on your flyback to see if it's adjusted back to the same position to make the colors come back again. My guess the pots in your flyback are bad so why don't just replace your flyback? That's a ten minute job. Ok man, take care, hope you will fix this soon.

I remember playing the tempest when i was 10 years old and it seems like the Refresh rate is off. Now that you have an Lcr meter check the diodes (on the board) All the diodes and especially the burnt part (right side) Nyc.
