Hi from Slovakia, John! Nice video. I always enjoy watching people from different countries using our military gear. During my time in the Army this mess kit was issued to me as well. The side brackets were used to fasten the kit with issued leather strap on the backpack in the early years after the WWII but later the kit was carried in the breadbag( official Army name is''mala polna''- small field pack). The version without side brackets is considered for civilian uses and also the handles on the military version were made from steel wire instead od aluminium. Also it exist the canvas cover for the whole set : www.militaria-shop.cz/media/NQ3R9VBweWF9HaZwH1Vmq6Ue3qCl8p0n/big.jpg The smaller bowl was usually used as a cup for drinking and the big one was designated for food. Nowadays the Slovak Army uses the same mess kit bud made fron stainsless steel. If you have any questions regarding our equipment feel free to ask anytime! :)

Thanks for the history and information about this great mess kit! It is so cool to hear from an actual soldier that used this equipment while serving. I enjoy this kit a lot and it is one of my favorites. I also have the bread bag. I'm not sure if it is the same bread bag you mentioned. Here is a link to my video on the bread bag: kzbin.info/www/bejne/Z3nGd6hrh9F7hq8 Please tell me if it is the same one because the mess kit is a tight fit in this bag. I like the mess kit bag. I need to find some of these. Thanks for watching and for your interesting comment!

Yes, that is the bag I mentioned. It could be carried on the shoulder or you attached it to the backpack. The list of items in this "breadbag": utensils, mess kit, dish cloth, towel, hygiene(soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, shaving kit), field bottle with water, leather straps
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS7 жыл бұрын
Thank you again for the information. That list is interesting because I would not have thought that the hygiene items would be carried in the bread bag. Thanks for sharing!

It was regulation back then now it is completely different of course :-) I believe my NCO class was one of the last soldier who were issued with that old canvas bags and backpacks.

And the manufacturer is "Meva", two crosses are military acceptance sign (+year of production). Those can be found on various czechoslovak military equipment.

I plan to buy one.Do you have a seller who is reputable in mind?Tony
@John-Sherwood-W4JFS8 жыл бұрын
I bought two from eBay from the same seller on two separate transactions. seasidemilitarysurplus was the seller. I paid $10.99 plus shipping. I have bought at least three times from this seller and everything went smoothly. I would suggest you check around as you might be able to find it cheaper. The only difference in kits I've seen listed is whether the kit has the side brackets on the main pot and if it has a date stamped on it. I think the newer kits didn't have the brackets or date stamp. Also, I did see a ebay seller with kits that were painted olive green. I think the seller may have painted them. Good luck on your search!

Thanks very much for watching my video! The Czech kit is still available online at some surplus stores and ebay. There is a re-make of it available in stainless but I think it is made in China and it seems cheap made (at least the one I saw).

Nice man. I just ordered one of the Czech kits also. Florida survival is a lot different than anywhere else, Green Swamp looks pretty cool.

+FLBoys Survival Thanks for watching and commenting! I think you will enjoy that mess kit for many years. Its very functional and rugged. I was just able to collect two Czech canteens to go with my mess kit. They look super cool with the wool cover, cork stopper and black leather strap around them but I haven't decided if they will be part of my regular kit or just collectors. I will probably do a video on them soon. Green Swamp is a cool place part of the year. Most times it is overran with mosquitoes and standing water in a lot of places. But there are some beautiful areas to visit and its a great place to hone your skills.

+John Sherwood I do most of my kicking around on the Bull Creek WMA in Central Florida. Part of the Florida Trail runs through there and there are a couple of great primitive camping areas.

I have to be honest here. My wife hates it when I watch your videos as it usually means new kit on the way. I bought a VDV mess kit (great piece of gear) a Veshmeshok pack and a Soviet aluminium canteen. I'm looking for a more pot based mess kit so I came here....Thanks for your reviews, much appreciated.

No problem. My wife doesn't ask questions anymore so I don't ever say how many kits I actually own. Lol. The Czech kit is a very nice kit and it won't displease you. Let me know how you like it. You are the 1st person on a KZbin video who knows what the Everglades seasoning is. I like to mix the Original with the Hot and Spicy , a 50 /50 mix. I've gone all over , in ( Florida ) and out of state to canoe and camp with different folks/friends. When I would use the Everglades as a seasoning i always was asked what is that ???? Then when I got home I would get more and mail it to the guys who asked about it.

1953... that is cool! hey man, that Czech kit ain't bad! i like it! there's a 1953 on EB now for $10 + $8.65 shipping in bellview, NE. ...looks good! i might bid on it? me tooo..... real coffee. would you say that the thickness of the czech mess kit aluminum is thick like cast aluminum? how are ya not gonna like that meal? looks A-1 to me! i do like this czech kit too. i really may buy this and i'm not kidding, either. still eye-balling that steel BSA mess kit too! if i got this czech kit for $18 i would be fine with that. up thumbed it & thx!

The Czech kit is bomb proof. The gauge of the aluminum is such that it will not dent easily. I still use and enjoy mine from time to time. My wife has her own Czech kit (1952) in her emergency car kit that she likes.

Thanks for watching! I'm glad you liked it. The capacity of the large pot filled to the top is about 1350 ml or 5 3/4 cups. The small pot is about 1050 ml or 4.5 cups filled to the top. Thanks for the sub too.
