JOHNSON 1978 6HP, Here I find this little cutie laying beside the Dumpster. It has Abuse all over it,, Well come along with me and let's go Inside Outboard's one more time have some outboard Fun and see if it has a chance.

Nice little gift luv those CD 6Hp . I have been lucky with great finds and scrap deals thru the years myself its a good feeling. I would pull the thermo first then take it from there probably stuck shut and packed with salt yuck .Great little kicker and good Luck on that one....

I have one that won't pump water for beans~!~ I remember you telling me about the corroded aluminum under the water pump plate on your motor,, and how yours also wouldn't pump water, until you repaired the corroded seal housing I tink?!?!?!?!

The Johnson brothers are looking down smiling, so glad you saved one of the best outboards ever. No doubt it had some rough commercial use, got tossed around. No big deal to pull the powerhead and gearcase, I'm sure another steering handle bracket will show up. I gotta hone my dumpster divin skills, I never find "good stuff" like this.

That's just Kool... I'm fixing to pick up a 6hp Evinrude for 50 dollars the guy says he bought a storage unit and it was in it...the engine is very clean from pics..hope to get it running like you did

if you still get irritated by putting in spark plugs one thing that helps me is to use a small length of fuel line , connect to the spark plug and use the fuel line to guide the spark plug to its seat, if it starts to cross thread the plug will spin in the tube preventing cross threading damage and its easy to use for people with banana fingers.

Hi Kodi, cool save for sure. If I saw an outboard in a dumpster around here I'd jump in head first🤣 I bet I could alumaweld that tiller up like new. Someday if I may even get a multi function welder so can wels up aluminum.

Yep, that part of welding is expensive. If you're in business, it makes sense but a DIY in the garage wire feed works but may not work for aluminum?

If I didn't know better, I'd say that find was staged cause, just like Reverend Kramden (a revered outboard pastor if I ever met one), I never come across such nice finds at the local recycling facility. But as Kodibass is a straight shooting gentleman ... his story is legitimate. Finally, I salute KB's approach where he wakes up in the morning asking himself on what motor he will lovingly work that day ! Thanks for enlightening our days.

Sounded like she had a dull sounding knock, like a rod or wrist pin. Could have been the audio, but I could hear it. Might want to check the lash on those pistons before going further. Enjoy watching your channel.

yeah back in the day in ohio you had to buy a sticker for the motor and the boat now days is just a sticker but they do ask about the motor

Did you ever have any experience with the old P 250 OMC powered pumps? When I was in the service, we had a few on board the ship I was stationed on, USCGC Escanaba, WHEC 64. They were temperamental and hard to start. I think they used the old 35 hp powerhead. I know it was OMC because it had the old twin line pressurized tank.

The P250 was a 35 hp OMC powerhead using a pressurized gas can. Usually they ran great. Their replacement was The P250 mod 1. That had a 55hp OMC powerhead attached to a Hale pump. Temperamental if not serviced and inexperienced operators trying to get it to prime and start it. Robert did you work at CG Base Boston?

Some states you have to register outboards just like boats so at some point this was a Ohio outboard. That is outboard registration sticker.

Do you have trouble with WD40 cans clogging the spray nozzle? They don’t last long for me. Thinking maybe it doesn’t like a cold Montana shop?

I put a drop of glue at the junction after inserting the straw in a spray can's button. Keeps it from spitting the straw loose !

have a 9.9 evinrude 2 stroke.. new fuel pump, rebuilt carb, new cdi box.. the engine will not suck fuel into the carb,, if I remove the carb, and spray pre mix into the reed plate, the motor starts and runs smooth,, my compression is 80 psi to hole, 70 bottom..,,. I would like to know if I have a blown head gasket, will it cause the engine to not pull vacuum thru the carb? or is this more likely a reed valve issue? or something else? thanks

Make a small fuel tank hang it high above the power head, I use a plastic pop bottle for this. run a straight hose directly to the carb. and see if it will run on gravity feed. kb

@@kodibassInsideoutboards I rigged up; a gravity feed fuel set up, and the motor didnt pop.,. I pulled the carb again and the bowl is full.. checked plugs and they are bone dry.. the engine is not sucking or attempting to suck the fuel mixture in.. it wont even pop by spraying mix in the carb throat, I have to remove the carb, and shoot premix into the hole of the reed plate.. then I will say, start you bastard.. it will start and run for 5 seconds.. then like bugs bunny says,, thats all folks!!!

@@kodibassInsideoutboards my 9.9 has the plastic top and bowl style carb,,, I got a rebuild kit and it came with 3 different top gaskets,, what im now wondering is if the top gasket was changed and they used the wrong one,, If you could make a vid on how these strange carbs work, it would help folks out,, I saw your vid where u rebuilt one, but didnt go into much detail about the components, like the well jet. upper plastic cover air and fuel routing, ect.. im no stranger to carburetors but this thing is odd for sure,,,

HELP.. THE PUMP IS NEW AS WELL AS THE SEAL, NEW CRANKSHAFT SEALS WERE INSTALLED, WHEN THE PUMP IS MANUALLY INFLATED, THE HOSES BECOME HARD... IT WORKS FOR 3 SEC AND SHUTS OFF.... CARBURETOR REPAIRED,,, FINDING NO FUEL GOING TO THE PULSE OUTPUT... IN WHAT WAY THE CRANKSHAFT MAKES PRESSURE ON THE PUMP
