Many thanks, my friend. I know this is an old video but I’m doing a tear down of this motor for an electric conversion and this series is excellent. Thanks!

Thanks for this video, I watched it before I took mine apart to check the rubber mounts. Great help!

thanks for this. i bought a 1964 9.5hp Evinrude from a guy. motor hadn't run in a very long time. (compression is 65 top and 70 bottom) i can start it now and wind it up but can't get it to idle and it "lean" coughs while fast idling. cleaned, then rebuilt then (bought a new) ultrasonic cleaner to clean and then replace the carb with another carb. checked all fuel supply connections and clamped new fuel lines. checked and cleaned fuel filter. (brand new tank and hose.) checked ignition -- spark jumps 0.200+. installed the correct cj4 plugs per Evinrude site. ordered and replaced the top crank seal (with quite a bit of difficulty to get it out) though it looked ok. now considering trying to replace the bottom seal because i don't know what else to do. your video didn't show the bottom of the powerhead and my manual doesn't show a procedure to replace it. any pointers or suggestions? does my problem sound like a bad lower seal?

I'm so glad you have this video. I couldn't find it in your line up, from my iPhone, till I did a search for removing powerhead. Thanks for showing me what I have to look forward to. 😂👍🏻 eh, good thing I like tinkering and used to own a '69 VW Bug & Van. They taught me a thing or two about rebuilding motors.

You were more fortunate. Even after spraying lubricant on the case bolts (maybe I didn't wait long enough), I broke off the head from the back top (next to the lever) and the right side big nut. Plus, the lower back case screw stripped on me, to the point where I'll have to use a blackout bit. And I had a screw bit that fit it. Luckily these are all fixable and available. Oh, the joy of working with used motors. I keep telling myself, "keep at it, I'll get 'er done"

is that a mount down inside there and i really dont want to have to tear out rotating assembly in front if i dont have too.thats alot of work just to dig that part apart.noticed you said that was part your after,i guess transom and all.can you tell me if you think bolt is probably just turning inside rthere .i can see end of screw but bolt must be right above and nothing keepin it from spinning.i have a diagram and there is a bolt and spring and washers and shims .any ideas.great stuff.keep up good work.u have any parts for that assembly and any powerheads, good ones for 1953 QD-14 johnson.thank you

Hey I bought a 9.5 with a broken drive shaft stuck in the power head any ideas? It's broke almost exactly in half. Is it possible to take the power head off without stripping it?

Oh man this is a bummer. I didn't know I had to completely dismantle the lower unit to remove the powerhead. Now I'm wondering how much I really care about the lower seal. Hmmm . . .
