Thank you. Just picked up this same motor (non working). Went to do a compression test and realized that top spark plug hole threads are all but stripped. Previous. Owner said low compression but i got 100 in each. Wonder if maybe it’s just the loose spark plug that’s the problem. 🤞

Or, his gauge sucked. Or, he read 100 is low. Maybe he asked his buddy the deisel mechanic what compression should be.

@@BrandonsGarage one question for you of you don’t mind. I retested the compression once the engine warmed up in house (-10C) out and I got 115 in one and 105 in other...do you think difference is acceptable?

If i want to change the head gasket do I have to pull everything apart like what you did in this video? I have a 3HP 1968 Johnson.

Can you bore the reed plate on a 3hp to a bigger diameter, bigger main jet, 4hp prop and convert a 3 to a 4??

Hey Brian, I think I've seen your reply on another video regarding this, where you state that only the bore of the intake manifold is larger in the 4HP? Part number comparison doesn't help me much but I've got a 3HP which I'd like to upgrade to 4 if possible without too many obsolete items... Any more info?

Any update? will there ever been an assembly of the 4hp powerhead? I have having some issues when i am assembling, i attempt to spin the crank with the pistons in, it does not spin you like spin yours by hand at 7:45 Thank you.

Lovin the 4hp series ! Wondering if you have an opinion on the difference between Original manufacture parts, and after market parts ? Especially seals, and impellers ? Thanks !!

If you are changing the impeller only, I don't think you'll find a difference. However, if you buy a complete kit, go with and OEM. It'll be the most updated, come with everything you need, and probably cost $2 less. For gear-case seal kits, sometimes an OEM kit isn't available and you have to buy each seal by itself. This is quite costly. Thats when aftermarket come in very handy. When a kit is available, and OEM kit will usually have the most updated seals. - but! if you are using OEM tools, for your year/engine, that tool may not work with the new kit; resulting in you needing a new tool too. Powerhead gasket sets, usually come with more than you'll ever need, and head gaskets. Aftermarket kits are sometimes limited. For carb kits, OEM comes with a new float. Aftermarkets usually do not. I always go OEM carb kits. So, it depends on what I'm doing.
