Was totally stumped about how to re-use the old plastic connector. 24:28 mystery solved. Thanks!

Awesome video! Just finished my 1995 Evinrude 150. Without this video I don't think I would have attempted this job. Only video I could find that shows the complete job. I was comfortable taking the trim motor off but the plug I never would have figured out. Thanks for a great video.

Thanks for the video, very well done. I'm going to be replacing my motor this weekend and now I know exactly what I'm getting into.

Great video sir. Very detailed and concise, well done. I'm going to swap out the motor tomorrow and see if it works. It was JUST working last week and now it's not... Has full power, fuses good, etc. Gotta be the motor. Everything else on the boat works. Thanks for your efforts. Thanks again for the great video on fixing the boat. Should have it back on the water in no time!

@@thisoldoutboard LOL, you did not sir. This comment was meant for another video and somehow I posted it here. I had multiple videos open at the same time covering the replacement of this motor. I'm an idiot and posted on the wrong video. Your's is good. Sorry for the confusion LOL. There's another video where the guy shows essentially the same thing... a good video... then goes into talking about god and stuff and I was like... wait, we talking about boat engines/motors or god? Anyhow, sorry. I'll edit/delete/remove that part =]

Long story short. One of the 4 bolts broke off twice removing the motor from pump. (Was not installed all the way down from factory).I was able to machine it out and had to use a 1/4-20 stainless SHCS bolt as the pitch of the 4 bolts they use are not a standard pitch. To machine broken bolt out of pump, i had to remove pump from cylinder. I have it all back together with new trim oil and the motor works but nothing happens to cylinder up or down. Key was installed properly when motor was mounted. Do you know if there is a bleed screw on pump to get air out and the oil moving again. the manual release screw has been tried in both positions with motor running in both positions. But still nothing from cylinders going up or down. thanks jim

Pro tip: if you forget to put the ground strap on a trim motor bolt, just connect it to one of the trim sender bolts - I did this & no worries

Do love your video! I Just got a boat with 1989 johnson outboard which has two options to trim tilt the engine either at the shift handle or on the outboard. However, the one on the outboard does not work either up or down. I still can use the one on the shift handle. I would wonder it is related to bad relays?? What do you think? Frankly, this is my first boat so would want to study it first before bringing to the shop.
@ct17622 жыл бұрын
why would it be a bad relay if the switch in the handle works? its clearly the switch on the lower cowling. clean connection. if it still doesnt work, inspect or replace trim switch. also inspect red/purple switch hot wire connection.

Hello friend, I have a problem with the trim, the middle cylinder does not work, I already changed seals and everything and it continues to be the same as if I had no strength, it already has me crazy
@dadams191113 жыл бұрын
mine went down and the motor wont stop running downward. it will not trim up from any switch. if i press up it cancels and the trim motor wont run as long as i hold the up button in. Relay???
@thisoldoutboard3 жыл бұрын
Potentially. Swap relay positions and see if the problem tracks with the relay.

All fun and games until you get one seized from saltwater. you freshwater guys don't know how lucky you are... or how unlucky we are haha. I've had to cut the pin out before. other times so much heat is needed it just melts the bushing.

Pity you didn’t edit out all the bullshit theory talk, man, use a 3/8 to break the bolt then wind it by phillips bit, drrrr
