nice stuff , i have the same motor , could you ask mitch why the pull cord will go in and out but not catch the cogs , then when you keep pulling it will finally catch the cogs , what causes this to happen?

Hi Jake, can you tell me what is the red mechanism on the side of the pull ?
@pamelaharris1552 жыл бұрын
Did you ever find out what the Red mechanism is?? Thanks!
@coreyis12 ай бұрын
The red mechanism keeps the pull start from being pulled when the motor is started/ in gear.

@@Cotton603 is this the reason why the draw string won’t retract?
@Cotton6033 жыл бұрын
@@camowamo999 i don’t believe so, i just played with the tightness of the bolt holding the string assembly in place. I actually just left this part alone although it’s destroyed its been fine since for me, I believe the function of the part is to not let motor start when at full throttle for obvious reasons. I manually make sure i dont make that mistake

So would you say that there is a certain amount/length of pullcord that is recommended? I’ve been tinkering around with my Evanrude 9.9 for a while now and every time I get the pull cord/recoil set up, after a few starts on the water my cord will either wear through and break or stop winding back in completely. A lot worse than yours in the video, basically the whole cord will be out and not wind back in. I’ve tried messing with the tension, different kinds of ropes. I just can’t figure it out. I purchased a new spring for it off eBay, I’m hoping that will do it.

Mine stopped recoiling as well. Have you taken the pull starter apart? My spring was broken. I bought a new one on Amazon. It ended up not being the right one. It ended up heating it with a heat gun and bending the end of it to fit on the groove in the starter.

So where's the slack come from? The rope stretching over time from so many pull starts? I did this and unfortunately there was a frayed section I didn't see and ended up breaking the rope after retracting a couple times so had to pull the whole damn thing out and replace it. If that bad section wouldn't have been there it would've gone another 20yrs no problem! Lol
