Hollywood could NOT make a better video. Great skills and talent from the mechanic and camera person.

FYI ... the idler pulley arm that tensions the belt has a 3/8" square hole cut into it (hard to see in video). This is where you put a 3/8" ratchet or breaker bar to easily relieve tension on the belt. No need to risk pinching fingers taking the belt on or off.

Thank you for making this video. After seeing how you remove the deck on the X300 it was easy for me to do it.

This video was great! Probably saved me some bucks doing this on my own. Took my time doing the work and using the video as I worked to remove the deck. Sharpened the blades and cleaned the underside of the deck. Runs like a champ, smoother and quieter. Thanks for making this job so easy. Tim K.

This video is much better than trying to figure out how the deck comes free using the user manual. Thanks for the video. I'll keep it so I can refer back to it.

Thanks for the video. Nice to see it done before taking on the job. For anyone reading this, as said in the video, you don't need to take the tension spring off to get the belt off and on. Based on how dicey that always seemed doing it on my last John Deere where I had no choice because of how the belt ran, I doubt it's worth it messing with the spring. I had no issue just pulling the belt off and then pulling the tension arm when I was threading it back on when reconnecting the deck. With two people it would probably be even easier. Just be careful and wear gloves because I'm sure getting a finger stuck on the belt would not be a pleasant experience.

Awesome video, made taking the deck off a breeze. Just had a new belt put on. It disengaged the PTO almost immediately. Belt is extremely frayed. Any suggestions with the belt coming into contact with the hanger bolts?

A response to this would be muchly appreciated ! Are the bearings in the spindles sealed and would it be wise if they are to take the bearings out take the bottom seal out so I can maintain and grease the bearings so they last longer !?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines5 жыл бұрын
In my opinion, there is no reason to take the covers off of the bearings, They are there for a reason. We at the shop fill the cavity of the blade hub full of grease until you feel it get tight. (meaning it should be full of grease) Then once or twice a year put a few pumps of grease in the keep the cavity full of grease This will keep water and dirt from entering the blade hub. Do not wash the mower deck !!! If you have a hand held blower? just blow off the grass when your finished mowing and scrap under mower deck every now and then. Try not to cut wet grass!

The arm that the spring is attatched to also has a 3/8" square drive in it for a ratchet or breaker bar, you can just turn the arm, remove tension and forego the pinched fingers.
