Hello, I have this exact machine. It will fire and start for a second and then shut off. Any suggestions on what is wrong?

A good guess, gas went bad inside the carburetor. You will need to remove and flush all gas from tank. Remove and rebuild or replace the carburetor.

my electric start stopped working and mechanic said to stop using. i don't have a heated garage and I cannot get it started with pull cord in about -10 F weather. any tips as it will not turn over or fire. fresh gas, stabil in it, primed, spark plug good. etc.

Because your conditions are so cold, you most likely will need to repair your electric starter to remedy this issue unless you have a neighbor that has a heated garage and you can warm up the machine. Maybe change the oil to a very thin synthetic oil which will help make it easier to pull over the engine with the pull cord.

@@JohnsonsSmallEngines Thanks, the repair on the electric starter mentioned was almost at that point was almost worth getting a new snowblower. something is broke off internally so it is a major repair.
