I have been working on my Troybuilt mower for weeks, as of today still without sucess. This is far an above the absolute BEST video on these Briggs carburetors yet. No body else has even seemed to know exactly what that solenoid is. I have removed, cleaned my carb twice now even thought it was very clean. I removed the float with that """!!** tiny damn pin, cleaned out everything as far as you can go. My mower just died halfway thru the job late last fall but i even easily drain my gas all through from the tank out of where it attaches to the carburetor. Damn MTD used rtv, or some kinda glue on the plug to the solenoid so my grey wire came out of the plug an dont wanna go back in, but ill get it. I think thanks to you my whole focus is now on that solenoid. Your info an teaching manner is top notch.

Exactly what I needed. Thank you! When I tested my solenoid I got power but no click. I removed it and found the stem that goes up and down was rusted shut. Since I was also getting tons of gas in my oil, I watched your other video as well. Found a full carburetor kit on Amazon that comes with a new solenoid for $24 that will hopefully fix my issues. If not, I'm out $24, but worth it to suss this thing out. 🤞

Great video! Thanks. My knowledge is limited and a new spark plug is always good. I probably would spray carb starter fluid in carb to see if will start. If starts pretty sure main problem is fuel/carb.

Great info, well laid out. I've got one tip being an electrician. When you test electrical with a test light and a ground wire is supplied, check the ground as well as the hot. Move the test light clip to the positive battery post to do this. Gives a comprehensive test. Seen where one guy found his ground wire cut by a heat shield.

My 19 year old Troy Bilt riding mower is on its 3rd (or 4th) carburetor, and the bad solenoid is a common problem. Actually, I have also replaced the starter solenoid several times. The cheap e.g. $16-20 carbs from, for example, China are not very durable. I recently ordered a $100 Briggs & Stratton brand new carb and hope it will last significantly longer. I appreciate your vids and admire your expertise.

I worked on a Snapper with the same engine. The complaint was, would only run with the choke on. I took the carburetor off, and it was super clean. Put it back together and it ran great. I used it cut my grass and I was about half done and it stopped running. The problem was the fuel shut off connector fell out. What I did was use 2 plastic tie wraps. One around the top of the fuel solenoid the other between the wires on the connector, got it tight, never had any more problems. Told the customer he didn't owe me anything. Now he won't let anyone else work on any of his lawn equipment.

Thank you for the great video! Mine ended up being the ignition coil module after all - which surprised me since it was OEM on a B&S pro series 19 hp engine built in 2019. Inline spark tester showed dim spark while cranking. Ohm test on ignition module showed 5.13k (B&S' upper limit on this cuts off at 5k). So not quite dead but enough to where the spark plug wasn't sparking enough. Pulled the kill wire off the ignition module to take anything else out of the equation, shined up the magnet on the flywheel and the armature and contact points of both the original module and posts where it attached to the engine itself, but still wouldn't start. I had already replaced the spark plug since the former one was wet fouled with fuel and 5 years old as well. Anyway, installed and gapped the new ignition module, plugged the kill wire back into it and turned the key ... inline tester glowed brightly and engine fired right up!

I have had problems with my Yard tractor a Kohler 24HP 7000 pro series. I have learned a lot watching your videos...I am so impressed. I am not a mechanic but I managed to change my oil filer, air filter, spark plugs, fuel pump, choke and recently the ignition coil. The tractor has had problems and will not keep running evern after all of that. It runs but when I activate the PTO... it shuts off. I need to know how to change out the carborator..... I was told it is the solenoid on the carborator. I really don't know.... but my other alternative is have someone pick it up and pay a pick up and drop off fee as well as maintenance Ive already performed. Just wondering if you have a video on changing out a carborator. PS ...Please can you tell me if you can purchase just the selonid? I also want to tell you I am really impressd with the details in your videos. Thank you.

Thank you! info about the solenoid helped... not "as dreadful" as I expected...STILL I don't have the ability to grind down an open end wrench. (options?) Long ago...maybe before husband died I thought I saw some really thin open end --like something that was included with some OEM kit...but that is likely long since gone. (Husband was a left hand amp too. Always amazed me HOW MUCH he was able to do just right handed for most part.) Still not sure if I want to tackle that...or just buy a new and after season repair...sell it off in spring. GUYS!!! TEACH YOUR WIVES HOW TO DO THESE HOME MAINTENANCE THINGS! --IF you get sick or pass...they need to be able to take on these tasks. I could have paid more attention, but I was usually indoors doing my "specialty" to keep family things going. CANNOT count of KIDS to come home to help..they grow and move on. I watched this video because I'm wanting to bypass the clutch safety. Had a difficult time locating the darned thing on the mower. As an added note, I only have one leg. Lost a leg due to a faulty electric can opener. Now, when I go swimming...I just swim in circles. *Note: amputation was actually caused by a head on motorcycle collision when an old lady pulled into my lane...in a 1962 Chrysler.

Yes, you can cut the tip off. I run a business so that is not an option (lability reasons) and throttling down is what everyone should do but it a lot of people do not.

Same problem I had with my john deere. Same motor afaik, 1cyl briggs & stratton. My solenoid burned out, happened in the middle of a cut, couldn't figure it out until I looked closely at the clip going into the solenoid and noticed what looked like melted black plastic. No click coming from the solenoid. Had to order the replacement part which was #AUC11057. Like $75 bucks or something, still waiting to get it in. Pain in the ass lol. I don't know what would've caused it to overheat like that. Tractor isn't that old, about 160 hours.

I have a Craftsman lawn tractor given to me and the gas tank is under the seat and I am not getting any gas up to the carburetor. Is there a fuel pump on these?
@JohnsonsSmallEngines8 ай бұрын
If the gas tank is under the seat then yes you should have a fuel pump. what is the model of your machine? If it is a craftsman, there is a model number underneath the seat. It should have three numbers than a dot then more numbers. If you can get me those numbers, I can look to see what kind of motor is on your machine and try and give you pointers. I can Say if you have a twin cylinder engine and it is a Briggs & Stratton sometimes you have to make sure you hold the choke in the on position and sometimes you have to crank a very long time to get the fuel to get pulled from the gas tank. Also make sure you have a full tank of gas.
@8Nguy19488 ай бұрын
I found the fuel pump, and I got it running. It surges until you engage the blades, and then it runs great . But it's been sitting for an undetermined length of time, and maybe after a while, it will straighten up . Thank you for your help with this problem .😊

Impossible to diagnose with out seeing the machine but It could as simple as a clogged fuel cap.kzbin.info/www/bejne/bJ_bqmmBlMiMgNE. Possible failed spark plug? Try a new spark plug. Ignition coil can fail, you would need a spark tester or know how to use the spark plug to check spark. Worst case the engine blew up (check compression). You also may have valve issues.
