Classic Stossel: Title IX

Politicians promised that Title IX would end discrimination of women in sports, but instead it has taken sports away from both men AND women.
A Stossel Classic from 2010.
Note: After this piece first aired, supporters of Cal athletics raised enough money to convince Cal to re-instate the 5 teams they planned to cut. Unfortunately student athletes at many other schools have not been as fortunate.

Actually, probably the most honest way of looking at it is that football and men's basketball pay for just about everything else. At least, they make up for the shortfalls in those other sports, regardless of which sex is playing them. Not even all football programs turn a profit, and football and men's basketball are about the only revenue-generating sports on any given campus. Even during the peak of the UConn-Tennessee women's hoops rivalry, there were only about a dozen or so women's hoops programs that paid for themselves.

That's why everyone should be on guard whenever a law is passed. Yes, Title IX has good intentions, and on its face value, it's a good thing for society. But then you have wacko activists who climb in positions of power that manipulate the laws and weaponize it to pursue agendas and twist its wording around in ways that were never intended. It's still appalling how Title IX has been twisted around to address rape accusations, which we have the corrupt Office of Civil Rights to thank for that travesty of a conclusion. Now, any time there's some sort of "imbalance" between genders at colleges, you'll have feminist activists there lined up ready to protest and file frivolous lawsuits to use a weapons to bend school policy to suit their agendas. However, if the imbalance is against the favor of men, they won't care, because in their minds, "it's men's turn to experience institutional discrimination."

Personally, I've always found the feminists who point at the 50s and scream about how oppressed and silent those women were to be quite humorous. Apparently, the only input they've ever had about women in that era is from movies and TV shows made in the 90s and later. While there are not a lot of women left from then still around, more's the pity, I had a chance to speak to many in my younger years and anyone that thinks those ladies just did housework and brought their husbands martinis at the end of the day is just full on stupid.

Women were never "locked inside". That's feminist propaganda. They were always seamstresses, secretaries, printers, etc. And, as you note, those that did stay home had the full-time job of keeping the home in good repair. I've never met an old-school woman like your grandmother who didn't rule the roost. She might take care of the inside, but she also made sure the husband took care of the outside. She'd do the dishes, he'd take out the trash. He might earn the money that bought the food, but she was the one who determined what food was bought and how it was prepared. The idea that women were some kind of slaves in Western Society is 100% bunk. The easiest way to prove it to anyone who doubts it is just to point to all the Goddesses, Saints, Queens, Duchesses, Princesses, Marquesses and Ladies throughout Western History. A society that hates and enslaves women, like the feminists will tell you the West has done for thousands of years, does not then create women in positions of power and authority like that. From Aphrodite and Hera all the way up to Mother Teresa and Queen Elizabeth, the Western World has always held women up as capable and integral to society. Feminists hate when you point that out because they can't argue against it.

What most simps, feminist fe/males, white-knights, betas and conservative guys fail to realize: bad boys provide excitement, novelty, unpredictability and fun (fear, roller-coaster drama) to a new level. In other words, stability and commitment (no longer) won't cut it for today's 🦄. Why is that? Before she was your girlfriend, wife or lover, she already had been "run through" so many guys. And each time she slept with someone (both wo/men), she lost a part of her psyche, well-being or mind/soul/spirit. Women want special privileges when that suits them, and "equality" when that suits them. Why not, if they are equal, let men and women compete on an even field? One way men are responding is to replace women altogether ("trans" men). Perhaps, in order to restore order, we should let men compete with women in sports.

I remember this, SFSU, across the bay from Berkeley, we won the DII track and field championship. I graduated (thankfully) and then they cut the make track program within 1-2 years. And now…. Everything is a joke. Said it then and I’ll say it now… the “cultural” and scholastic enrollment does NOT indicate the same proportion in sports. 1 classroom has anywhere between 18-30 students…. Whatever the subject. A single sport team SURVIVES on 18-30 students for the whole of its career. That class, last 2-4 months… then student move on, while the sport goes to its next year with the same amount of athletes. IX did not take this i to consideration. So if the school adds 2 new art courses and allows 18-30 more students in PER semester, that 18-30x3 per year…. That’s up to 90more students a year… while that team of 18-30 is still the same participants year in and year out. Feel good policies, vs reality.
