Good stuff John, thanks so much for that. Wishbone Ash was one of the best guitar bands of all time and Andy Powell an often forgotten master. Melodic rock at it's best. The opening solo of Warrior on the same album is one of the best of all time IMHO. It would be great if you could analyse it in a future video.

I was lucky to see Wishbone Ash in concert in early 1970s. A band with a truly unique sound, Argus is still one of my best loved albums, there's tons of awesomeness in there. In fact I'm going to go listen to it right now. Nice tutorial John, thanks.

My favourite Andy Powell solo is Throw Down The Sword on Live Dates. Gorgeous, stately melodic solo. Like an epitaph.

At last someone paying tribute to Wishbone Ash - surely one of the most underrated groups of all time. Argus is one of my all-time favourite albums - there is not a bad track on it. Give it a listen everybody, you won’t be disappointed. Another great video John.

Sorry, in that one sequence you made a Gbarre on the third fret and called it a D, but awesome lesson and I think I’ve got it!

Nice one John. Could you teach "Errors of My Way" by Wishbone Ash 1970? Nobody seems capable of teaching this solo, but I bet you could. Go on , give it a go.

John, you really hit it. One of my favourite bands and of course I had Argus in my LP collection. That is until Spotify showed up and I auctioned my complete collection on Catawiki.

Excellent song from an excellent band who, as you say, never really had their due. In many ways, their 'harmony leads' twin guitar sound was more interesting and inventive than the later and more famous version of Thin Lizzy. Wishbone Ash in their various incarnations were a very good live band for a long time, and as a result there are quite a few live versions of 'Blowin' Free' available, some of which are looser and livelier than the version on 'Argus' and feature more ambitious solos. Your analysis of the solo shows why it isn't always fair to dismiss late '60s/early '70s classic rock soloing as 'just pentatonic stuff'. Between the major/minor ambiguities, the modal touches and the nondiatonic 'blue' notes there was a lot of nuance. Most of the players of that era had similar theoretical resources, but very different and distinctive tones and phrasing, which I miss in later players who are technically better informed. Andy Powell was certainly one of them.

Good choice John of a long neglected classic. Any chance that you could do Ballad of the Beacon from the Live Dates album? Although speaking as a portly chap I will be doing Ballad of the Bacon!
