Notes: I don't know how exactly, but this video looks letterboxed at least on mobile while images of other aspect ratios can go beyond the bounds of the game footage. It was my intent for the entire video to be 4:3. I swear I had rendered it as such but I'm not able to check the video file right now. I thought I had confirmed it looked as intended on desktop. 10:07 this would have been greatly improved with a krabby in a cowboy hat and old timey pistol, but this was cut due to time constraints

Lmao even the tech tells you to stop doing non source games related vids. First it was the reupload guys who saw the future downfall of your channel. Stop harming your channel right now.

You should render your next video in 32:9 to make up for this blunder, us Ultrawide enjoyers gotta eat too.
@Capiosus6 күн бұрын
13:08 uh, why are you not using (max + min) / 2 ????? Assuming a uniform distribution and all levels from the max to the min to be included, this is a much better formula.

Bad news, somebody has already done everything you just did, but they're stuck in a parallel universe in which you released this video five years earlier.

You don't need to write a JSON parser. All you need to do - is to have a class that represents an object stored in JSON than you can easily Deserialize this JSON into this object using anything from System.Text.Json to Newtonsoft.Json (C#) or you can use something like nlohmann/json (C++)

I’ve been playing HeartGold recently, and I’m at this exact point in the game. You literally could not have uploaded this video at a better time for me!

If you want to spend more time in this project, you can enhance the output with more stats. For example, besides mean/average, a standard deviation, a confidence interval (calculated with bootstrap for example) and, if you want to be fancy, an experience probability distribution chart. You mentioned an area had pokemons with high exp and low exp, which created two distributions with a mean that was relatively close to what you measured, and that could be very easily shown with such a chart.

This sounds super useful! Johto's exp pacing has always tripped me up when I played through it.

I share your pain in writing parsers. I wrote a .sqf parser for ARMA 3 script files (long uninteresting shorty cut short: we were using .sqf scripts to set standardized equipment and ammo loadouts for everyone) and it was a nightmare. It's still a nightmare. It'll be a nightmare *forever*.

Rule of thumb: don't ever write a parser by hand unless what you're parsing is CSV or simpler
@r.g.thesecond6 күн бұрын
I have seen CSV files that would make you take that back. (Non-UTF8 + non-English + comma digit separator)
@makeshift270155 күн бұрын
Don't even write a csv parser by hand. The spec for csv is more complex than you'd think and has so many edge cases.

I never realised how bad the level curve is before gym 8 until I watched a friend who isn't that into Pokemon play this game, they didn't have a good option to deal with the dragons so they caught a Swinub and good lord it took forever for them to grind it up to a point where it was usable. I think they ended up grinding on the route below Blackthorn but it was mindnumblingly dull with how slow the exp gain was.

A Pinsplash Pokemon video is completely unexpected, but very much welcomed. I had to double take at the channel name to make sure I wasn't mistaken. Also, KZbin showing me this five whole days after it was uploaded is pretty annoying. You couldn't fathom the amount of times I refreshed my front page in the last five days looking for a longer video to listen to while working.

Also-also, it depends on the particular backend and how it process requests but usually, it's not that bad if you send one request for a large volume of data - it's worse to send a ton of requests for the small amount of data (DDoS like). So, yeah - if you actually could send one request to get all the data - that would be probably ok
