I so hope you will see this. It is Feb 2020 now. I have just figured out what I find so appealing about your junk journals.You use mostly pages from old books, calendars, use your stash. You use very little digital kits. That is what I like is using our stash and random paper of all sorts. Nothing wrong with digi kits, but your way is almost free. Am I making sense? Listening to you is most pleasant. Thank you, Joie.

You're totally making sense Sherrie. I agree with what you say.... nothing wrong with Digi kits...I guess I have just developed a process and a style that I enjoy...using what I have whenever I can. I've got an exciting File Folder project coming up soon on my channel. I think you might enjoy that too 😁❣️✨👍🏻

I'm yet holding you up in prayer. You've got this, keep going. You'll get there. Believe me you will. Trouble won't last always Hugs and love from us to you.🙏😇🤗Lord send an angel down to Joie. 😇

Right now I’m in the post Christmas blahs.....I asked to save the gift bags that were used as wrapping and decided to make a journal with the bags. The paper is great quality and i use the handles that were ribbon and cording to make tassels for the spine. You inspired me to get back to work! Ty 😊

You asked if we're inspired by the seasons. Well we live in the Canadian Rockies. We have 2 seasons: snow and no snow, but mostly snow. However, it's always Spring in our greenhouses where we grow our food. So I'm mostly inspired by the wildlife. We see deer, elk, moose usually every day. Today I had a black bear sleeping on my front porch. There are all sorts of little wild creatures about. Then there's all the rescue animals we have... from ducks to pigs and goats, dogs, etc. and even a pair of ostriches. So animal antics inspire my days. But if I'm in the mood for flowers, vegetables, fruit and nuts, the hum of bees... I can get that year-round by creating art in a greenhouse, and still watch the snow fall around me. 👍😁

@@joiedefi it's magical, and remote. Our "driveway" is 32km - it's a private access road through Crown Land. I've always wanted to be off-grid and as self-sufficient as possible. Doing so as a single man without family didn't seem enjoyable, so I invited others who shared that similar goal to live here as residents. All take part in the daily running of the place (animal care and gardening) but have the freedom and time to pursue personal interests (several are scientists). I think of the homestead as a micro community. We've supplies to last several years and maintain that, so other than art supplies and chocolate, I rarely leave here for need of anything, and that is usually just to pick up something that's been delivered in the nearest town, about an hours drive away.

Your journal process is fantastic. Mine is similar, but I must admit you have nicer papers than I do. Several weeks ago, I put together fourteen “to make” journals, clamped them up and put them aside. Since I started watching your tutorials, I have begin to work on them one at a time. I am picking themes because I want to give them as gifts. For example, one will be for my niece that gardens, one will be for my daughter who is a tea drinker, one will be a prayer journal for another niece. I am adding lots of ephemera and journal cards Modeled after things I have seen you, ArtyMaze, and Natasha from Treasure Books making. Thanks for all the inspiration. I posted this to Pinterest. God bless and stay safe!

Hello Joie👋🏻👋🏻👋🏻 I put my journals together pretty much the same way. I use an old telephone book open to the center and lay the journal pages in the center and punch the holes. I do use clips on all four sides of my journal to hold it together and sometime more. That way they don’t move after I punch the holes very easy to sew together that way.

We share a joy for some of the very same books. Especially our botanical books. I’m finally ready to get my feet wet since playing with my book of lines book you recommended and I got months ago. If you get this message, could you recommend a watercolor paint pan you would suggest for me and some brushes that I might need as well. I have the Arteza watercolor pencils and have been using them in a coloring book ( Edith Holden) but, I’m ready for pan watercolors so I can play with the colors mixing them and having fun. Many many thanks for your lovely tutorials. And a special thank you ahead of time for helping me with choosing watercolor paint and brushes. Best to you Cheryl

I'm so very appreciative of your support....I hope that you know that 💜💜💜 About your question on watercolours..I have a tiny White Nights palette which I love. It has 12 pans and the pigment is strong. Sometimes it's too intense, so for painting on book pages and general artwork I prefer my Arteza 36 pan palette. This has a wider choice of colours and cost per pan is less than White Nights. Does this help? Feel free to use my Arteza discount code..I hope to chat very soon. Hugs, joie 💜🌿😁

As for binding, when I make a single signature journal I usually make 5 holes, start from the inside, stitching otherwise the same. I use a waxed cord and becase it ends on the inside, I hide the tails instead of having them be seen. I'd probably have them on the outside like you do if I wanted to embellish the tails with beads and other trinkets - which I'm thinking of trying soon. It's all a matter of personal taste. I only do more holes because mine are usually taller, so I can have mini pages near the top and/or bottom. When I do multiple signature journals, I've experimented with the many binding choices. Generally I prefer coptic because the journal can lay flat, and often I cover the spine so it doesn't need to look fancy since it's unseen. Exceptions are when I choose to make a leather, soft bound cover. Then I do a cross pattern stitching in leather cord which looks very old world.

@@joiedefi I don't think of art journaling as something one can be an expert in. It's too varied and personal. Perhaps one can be an expert in techniques, which I've been labeled in other mediums, namely art quilting and acrylic abstracts, but prefer "very knowledgeable" over "expert" which indicates anyone can learn and master a technique... like you have done. 😁

Hi Joie, I thoroughly enjoyed this DIY with your easy to follow guidance on creating a journal. I love using the pamphlet stitch most often although depending on size of journal I also love the figure 8 stitch (like you use). Thanks for sharing and enjoy your autumn journal.

Love it Joie, especially the cover which absolutely screams autumn. I love that you always have an eye to colours that blend well together. I always think now I must do that next time because it looks so good but somehow I never seem to manage it! I don’t worry so much now, I just make sure that facing pages are balanced colour wise. I use the exact same binding as you are using basically because I learned it from you and it’s easy and works a treat! I do put watercolour paper in my journals as I like to paint and doodle and like you I love to paint on the music paper. I also love to put some napkin decoupage on those papers too. Keep these videos of yours coming because they help so many people me included xxx
@joiedefi
@joiedefi 5 жыл бұрын
Always so generous Rita. I've seen your napkin expertise....it's amazing! In hindsight I think a bit more watercolour paper would have been good...I agree that paint needs a page or three in one of these. I'll keep going with the videos 👍🏻😁 You take care of yourself, hugs, joie 🌿💜

Such pretty paper! I'm wondering if you've ever thought about tying it all together with colored cord or embroidery floss instead of plain string? I just think that would have looked so pretty with a black cord or a red floss (which is pretty strong when used in its 6 strands). Just a thought for something more colorful. :)
