Today I answer the question of whether I can do a whole video in Finnish, then I jump on Worddive (not a sponsor) and do some harder Finnish lessons.

"Farkut" is basically a shorter version of "farmarihousut" (which is a word that nobody uses), which is a combination of "farmari" (farmer) and "housut" (pants/trousers). And "farmari" is an anglicism, which makes "farkut" such a weird word.

I'm always impressed when someone says they don't know really any or much finnish and then they know so many words.. It's a hard language probably because the formal and informal languages are so different. And so many of these apps and programs use formal finnish, then you hear people actually speak and you're completely lost.
@kagenohikari8
@kagenohikari8 3 жыл бұрын
Similar to Japanese. If people only depend on anime for their language learning, they'll be extremely surprised when hearing a real Japanese speak. Anime is too informal, however, language schools are too formal. Conversational Japanese is really only learned from native speakers or teachers living in Japan.

Guys, there is something I realized when I learned spanish by living in Mexico. You have to train your ears to hear all the different nuances. Something that sounds simple to you won't be simple to someone just learning the language. I had trouble hearing the difference between vowels at first sometimes, and Spanish only has 5 vowel sound! But then there are things like not pronouncing "leer" as "ler," or the difference between "via" and "villa." The last one was a problem I had after 1.5 years living there and was definitely fluent in the language. So give him a break. It's not easy.

I loved this video. I've honestly wondered if you were Finnish/ lived here in the past because you look like a Finn. Also, your channel name sounds kinda Finnish. I hope you continue learning Finnish. Even if it's with the dramatically slow WordDive. And we are obsessed with Finland. If someone accidentally writes Finnish in a title the whole country is going to be fangirling that youtuber. Like what we did with Dave who lived or lives here. We basically claimed he was a Finn. And I'll start the same thing with you. I feel like you'll make a better national treasure than Dave Cad.

Yesss! I love Finnish so much! When I was a teen I tried learning Finnish because of the cool metal bands. My favorite band used to be Nightwish.

I'm American and studied Spanish through high school and Russian through college, and moved to Russia for a year. I got used to seeing and reading Cyrillic everywhere I went. After a year I headed home and had a long layover in Helsinki. With experience in Germanic, Romantic, and Slavic languages, plus some Latin from being Catholic, I never thought that the Latin alphabet would leave me absolutely flabbergasted as much as it did in Finland 😂

It's just funny to me how money in Finnish is "Raha" which in Arabic is the same word for "comfort" lol.
