I can tolerate quite rustic wool but I cannot bear alpaca directly on my skin. Never thought about alpaca for the feet before… this is going be a brilliant series of videos! Nice one Ange!👍

It’s such a shame isn’t it. Alpaca always feels soooo soft to me in the skein but as soon as it gets anywhere near my skin it just makes me itch. So far I’m not having too many problems spinning this blend though so 🤞🤞🤞

Oh my goodness, Ange, absolutely amazing! I'm so excited for your project and thank you SO much for the mention ❤ A thought, if you find that even that small percentage of alpaca is bothering you, you could just use that on the foot of your sock and then use 100% wool on the leg. Just a thought, but I hope it works to use up your beautiful fibers! Thanks again ❤

Such a lovely sounding blend. I recently used Amble from The Fibre Company and adored the alpaca in that. Hope this allows you to have alpaca back in your wardrobe!

Hi Ange - sorry I haven't had a chance to get in touch before now. I'm so glad you've been able to hopefully find a way to use the alpaca fleece (which was from one of our boys, Laird) and I have my fingers crossed it won't trigger your allergy. I'm really looking forward to watching as your socks progress. You asked if we have an alpaca herd - yes we do. At present we have about 250 alpacas, mostly white or black but with a few brown ones too. We've just finished shearing for this year so we have fleece everywhere - probably a good thing you're not over here with us right now 🙂 Our current focus is all the babies being born - so cute! A baby alpaca is called a cria (cree-a). All the best, Helen

Thank you so much Helen for the gift of the lovely fibre. I have started spinning the batts and am really enjoying working with them. I’m so glad that I have found a way to use the fibre it’s so beautifully prepared. Wow 250 I had no idea. I don’t know why but in my head I thought that you had a small herd like 20 or 30. I couldn’t have been more wrong 🤣🤣 I bet having all of the lovely Crias to enjoy is the best time of year. Hope you are all doing well xx

@@YarnNYarns Hi Ange, I'd love to see what the Batts look like before you spin them or at least some of the Spinning. I went to look at the channel, well I was totally confused, you said about the Alpaca and I knew that was what you was blending with your BFL, well the lady said she was Spinning Angora, so wasn't sure at first which of the fibres she was Spinning . So you can imagine what was going through my head (me being an old lady, yes I'm 68) had I misheard either of you. I thought no Ange definitely said Alpaca, turns out she's Spinning both, the Angora is for the toes of her socks. You can imagine the relief I felt. 🤣🤣 I'd love to see how your Yarn looks. If she does the sock challenge again next year and you are joining in, then I'll have to try it. I think Spinning for a sock yarn would be a bit too much for me to achieve at this moment in time. The Scarf/Cowl is so snuggly and so soft compared to the one out of commercial yarns. I meant to tell you before but I'd forgotten. 😃 Happy Spinning Special Fibre Friend 🎡🐑🥰🥰🌈 Hope you have a Wonderful Weekend Take care and stay safe Lots of love and Big Wooly Hugs Jen xxxx ❤️❤️❤️🫂🫂🫂🐈⬛

I found Cary's channel last year and have watched all of the sock spinning adventures. I'm not quite ready to tackle a big spin like that for a specific project. I lost my spinning mojo but am hoping to get back to playing with some advent fluff from 2019, trying different techniques etc. In the meantime I need to go through my stash and see what I can blend to make a decent sock yarn. I have so much sw merino. 🤦♀️
@YarnNYarns Жыл бұрын
When you are ready to spin for socks I hope you have fun with it. When I was first trying to spin for socks I put so much weight on trying to spin fingering/4ply but my favourite handspun socks are actually DK weight so I’m definitely trying to spin more like that now 😊🧡😀
@gemmaf_ Жыл бұрын
@@YarnNYarns That's a good point. I actually struggle to spin chunkier yarns consistently and my default is just getting finer and finer. I don't want to make lace weight sock yarn 🤣😳 More practice necessary for sure!! I did manage to spin up one of my advent fluffs this week for a chain ply experiment. It looks like a light fingering weight. Oops 🤷♀️
