I had a broken left wrist fracture when I was 11 years old from a fall from riding a bike. It was a small one above the joint from my wrist, It took me a year to heal to feel no pain to do push ups during PE class. I wanted to join the Army to become an Airborne Infantryman a Paratrooper. After my injury got better I started to do push ups and pull ups during PE class. Then I joined Army JROTC and I improved my physical fitness at 13 years old. When the recruiters came to my high school and I told them I wanted to be a Paratrooper when I was still 16 years old a year before I was legal to join the Army. Because I was in Army JROTC, JROTC Rifle Team, and cross country runner for my high school. I told them the injury I had when I was 11. They arranged for me to see a doctor and had an x-ray done on my left wrist through no cost to my family. It came back fine and I was good to go from their go to doctor. At MEPS I did pass the X-Ray and lift tests the first time and got to enlist for Delayed Entry Program and got my high school diploma early and went to Basic at Ft. Benning for Infantry and went on to Airborne School and graduated. Never regretted my adventure for 23 years.

I started a conversation with a recruiter at my university, really just wanted to talk about how and why people sign up as I wasn't really ready to sign up that day but the recruiter just got right into asking these medical and legal questions mentioned in the video. He started asking questions and filling out paperwork before I even had a chance to tell him why I was interested. He wasn't rude or anything, but he seemed really ready to sign me up, obviously. I was honest about everything, including my legal issues (2 misdemeanor drug charges). He got really dismissive after finding out about these charges, but he did mention the waiver. The charges are over 5 years old, but he texted me later saying it wouldn't happen. The information in this video makes me feel like if he had taken the time to listen to me and asked more personal questions he would have been willing and able to get a waiver and he was just being dismissive. Anyone out there able to comment on this? Thanks

Here’s some bullshit. I served 11 years as an active duty Marine. I’m currently joining the National Guard. I went to MEPS on Aug 25. During the medical exam, the doctor noticed my bunions on my feet. Told him I’m a prior service Marine and never had any issues ever with them. He didn’t care and said I’ll need a waiver to enlist even with a code of RE-1a and no medical history. Other MEPS doctor said I’ll get the waiver and looked kind of annoyed at the other doc. Whatever. But recruiter is pissed that they DQd me for a condition that has never been an issue and that I’ve already served. But, I should be enlisted by Sept 1.

ASVAB score of 82, physical is all done, but they saw some self harm scars and since they can see all medical records with the genesis, they saw that I was on antidepressants. Went to meps they sent me to a private optometrist it was to most janky back alley doctor I've ever been to in Englewood. The machine that tries to check for what glasses would improve your vision was all messed up. Half the lenses were scratched. Also I got 20/20 on the eye test but then they dialated my eyes and gave me another test which they wrote 20/25 even though I only missed one of the smallest letters. I guess meps just wants to save money using doctors like this for consultations.

I disclosed my medical procedure(minor surgery to my Navy recruiter & chief) & I already had the medical record on hand to back it up. They said they have to submit it first & wait for the meps doctors to review it but it'll take a long time because it's only one doctor dealing with everything & everyone at the same time. So they decided to send me to meps anyway & told me to not say anything about it especially if the doctor doesn't bring it up. I told them I had a scar from the surgery & I was scared the doctor was going to think I'm being dishonest & disqualified me & they looked at the scar & said it was so tiny that it could pass for a chickenpox scar. & if the doctor brings it up I should play dumb or I forgot to mention it since it was a long time ago. Of course, the doctor asked me about it because anyone in the medical field would know what it was especially because of its placement on my body, so I played like it slipped my mind. She went to her computer & started typing & asking me general questions that my recruiter already asked me. At that point, I was shitting myself cause I thought she had pulled up my medical records. She asked if I'd seen a therapist/counselor before & I answered yes because it was recommended by my doctor after my surgery & I thought she could see it so saying no would just make me look more dishonest. At the end, she told me I needed to get the operative/pathology report from my surgery & a letter from my therapist stating why I went to therapy, how long I've been in therapy & any psychological diagnosis. My therapist diagnosed me with major depressive disorder/generalized anxiety disorder & my recruiter is saying it's not good at all. Anything with depression or anxiety. So I'm just looking up videos to see if there's anything to help me.

I DID talk to a Marine recruiter face to face and he informed me that it depends on the severity of the scoliosis and if a doctor has diagnosed you. I told them my regular doctor told me I had it, but its really up to the MEPS doctors to confirm it. About the angle, they told me if its less than 20 degrees ( thorasic ), I should be fine, which it is ( I have 5° supposedly ) To remove all doubt, reach out to a recuiter of the branch you are most interested through text or set up an appointment and ask, doesnt hurt to adk and it doesnt mean an obligation to sign then and there Hope this helps

Joined the army with bad seasonal allergies in 2016. Do not disclose anything to your recruiter but once you get to reception (the first week or so of the army where you are doing a bunch of paperwork and medical stuff like vision test, vaccines, etc. before you are transferred to where your basic training will be taking place) the leadership present will ask if anyone needs to go to the CTMC. It's basically like going to a regular walk in clinic/urgent care for minor things. Tell the med staff evaluating you that the local pollen is affecting you and you'll be prescribed a once a day pill (similar to 24 hour claritin), a nasal spray (similar to flonase) and cough drops if your throat becomes irritated. Cough drops are almost LIFESAVING as far as helping with any throat irritattion, oral fixation, boredom, handing them out to a battles to help raise spirits/gain rapport, etc. best flavors are any fruit ones or minty. Do definitely get them at the CTMC and bring a resealable sized pack. Do not bring more than one because when you go to your basic training facility from reception you will be carrying SO MUCH heavy gear that is assigned to your throughout reception and your training that ultimately the less you have to carry the better. Within a week or so, before you are transferred from reception to your basic training company you will be brought to the PX that is located in reception to be able to buy things like hygiene products, detergent for laundry, a watch, materials like envelopes, paper, and stamps for letters etc. and so do not bother with the extra weight because you will be smoked on the first day by a "shark attack" and the less weight you have to deal with the better.
