3 other things to bear in mind when arriving at your battalion/regiment after training. 1). Dont be jack (selfish/lazy) 2). Dont be gobby, mouthy and 3) have a sense of humour as it will help you get thru any dark times and is a good coping mechanism...

I applied back in January 2020, i finally got my date for ITC Catterick for the 21st February this month i can't wait. Just seen some comments about the process. Things do come up and delay it massively but honestly just stick with the process. I went for my assessment day and they asked about my family. One of my family member is from Isreal. They had to test me for sickle cell anemia. This took 3 months. Honestly all i'm trying to say is stick to the process guys. You will eventually get there!

Shin splints. stretch before and after running (at least 10 minutes). Mix in other low impact cardio. have rest days. Proper footwear will also help.
@MsJstanley24
@MsJstanley24 3 жыл бұрын
@Luke yeet Yes, you need to do all of those things. Mixing up your cardio (like swimming or other low impact activities) will take some stress off your legs, stretching adequately before and after will reduce risk of injury, and warm up your muscles properly. Rest days are self explanatory. Proper footwear makes a ton of difference as well. Coupled with proper form etc.

Just a point about the difference in rifles and guards, I'm ex Scots guards from the 80,s it's basically in the guards you do more drill and more bullshit, locker inspections more drill and more attention to detail. In the guards you have a two tier role infantry wether mechanised or ground role and ceremonial. I did 6 years in the 80, s at the guards depot Pirbright was where we did basic training. Depending on which battalion you joined you could be anywhere in the world, London district battalions used to do ceremonial duties as well as infantry training. If you got posted to Germany you were armoured infantry and might never wear a tunic and bearskin. In my six years I only did one year on ceremonial the rest was green kit, Northern Ireland twice, Canada and Germany. I enjoyed my time in the army and learnt a lot, my advice to anyone joining is give it 100% don't just jack because your cold, wet and hungry and take in what the instructors are telling you because that goes with the job description. If you get through basic and go to battalion keep your head down and listen to the older more experienced lads, don't think your the dogs bollocks just because you passed basic you are starting at the bottom again and this is where your soldiering career really starts. The world is your oyster so go for it, you can either just do enough to get by or you can go for it and go on every course available and climb the ladder. The choice is really yours, good luck. 😊

It's a requirement to turn up 'clean, tidy and presentable' but the military recognises that not everyone comes from a background which allows them to own a shirt, tie, shoes and suit ... the problem is that all it takes is one 🔔🔚 Corporal who forgets that fact and your first few days can be a nightmare. The simple answer is to join the Royal Marines instead, none of our Corporals are 🔔🔚 so it'll all be ok!
@djrxp

Haha! I'm sure some RM Cpls aren't the most welcoming of blokes😂 To answer the question, I'd recommend a suit. If you can't get one then just turn up looking smart. It's professionalism

Hello, I am 14 years old 15 in a couple months and I want to join the British army, I’ve been a weakling for 13 and a half years of my life and pretty much still am. I can do about 19 press ups and 40 sit ups in a row, 0 pull ups... I want to join the army it’s my dream job to be a soldier, I want to get fit enough to join the royal marine commandos at the age of 18. So that’s 4 years. Do you have any tips on how to build muscle and burn fat, or should I just keep what I’m doing and keeping building on it. I start going on runs with my dad this weekend. He is an Ex-welsh guards infantry soldier. Does anyone have any recommendations on getting fit and healthy during this lockdown? - I subbed you have amazing content. Edit: sorry for the poor grammar

@ellehawksford2680
@ellehawksford2680 3 жыл бұрын
I had them when I first started running. Get some compression socks they help so much, don’t train so much it’s so important to let them rest. Don’t let it stop you from running but don’t run so hard. I brought new running shoes and that massively helped! Try to be more lighter on the ground so it had less impact on your shins. Also put a cold compress on your shins after a run and massage them!
@unknown-eo8dm
@unknown-eo8dm 3 жыл бұрын
I had them when I first started, got to the point where I didn't run for a month straight because I damaged them too much. My tip is to get a foam roller and a lacrosse ball and massage your shins and calves twice a day (morning and night works for me) Then I would say strengthen and grow your calfs and legs with exercises like deep calve extensions, squats and glute bridges. Then lastly I bought some calcium tablets just to give my body the extra help it needed to "fix" the shins. If you are still running and it hurts when run, stop immediately because you don't want to further damage your shins. Also I was running on grass after I recovered from them just to ease my body into running again. Hope it works out for you mate, any questions you have just reply here and I'll get back

i have knee problems, its not sore to touch, only sore when i bend down, do squats and workout etc, i am 16 years old, i am too scared to go to the doctor because it will go on my medical records and it could stop me from getting in the army, i plan to sign up when i am about 18 maybe 17, hopefully its nothing serious and it will be healed by then but what do you think i should do ?

I did send a question on insta, but I have my (Army Reserve) PJNCO course in Catterick for 3 weeks this Friday and wondered if you had any advice. I'm a little nervous as due to covid I haven't had the amount of preparation in terms of field exercises in a few months. Any advice or tips on this course? and what to expect. Thanks
@harryjackson9860
@harryjackson9860 3 жыл бұрын
Mate I did that exact course back in October/November 2020. In camp routine is a lot more chilled out than what u may expect at times, as long as your where your suppose to be at certain times. For the exercises, the first one is more of a refresher. Making sure everyone on the course is up to standard. They then progress in the following two into more infantry bases skills. However, the staff do expect u to be switched on in the field and I felt that’s what they really cared about during the course. They wanted to test u as much as they could, within reason, to get the best out of u as they only have a short period of time to work with you.

@@mmorgangreen no mate, the training team didn’t tend to stick to the plan completely. It was more of a rough guideline. In response about the 6 day ex. No mate, final ex was only 4 nights 5 days if I remember correctly. But yours could be longer or shorter, just depends on the training team mate.

I don't have any specifics to add on the actual course or how it runs. But I will say that it will be particularly important to work hard for your peers and not be jack! You'll probably be in command appointments at times - stay calm, think things through.

I have just had mine about 2 month ago mate, mine was only 5 minutes due to having to compress the day due to covid however still look at information on your regiment.. where they are based, when they started will make you look more interested, what type of regiment they are such as mechanised, tanks etc as well as what you do now such as sports and about you and the armys core values and things. At the end of it they will ask if you want to do "live fire" which i did where you finish your interview and you can opt to speak to someone before you leave for the day and they give you options for start dates. i went in december for my assessment day and my start date (which was the soonest they had) is thr 14th of feb just to give you a time frame.
