Glad to see you back. Book looks super cool. Can I make a suggestion for your next edition. Add a QR code on each joint that links to the video of you making the joint. Added reference is always helpful. Hope to see many more videos shortly.

Thank you! I have some joints that don't have a video though. I like to keep the aesthetic consistent.

Mate, I am super impressed by your ability to cut perfectly square and straight lines with the Ryoba. I struggle despite best efforts, though I do skip a couple of your steps. Fantastic, clean work.

I love your work! I've been watching since the beginning. The attention to detail is out of this world. Quick question, was it a mistake when you drilled into the male portion of the joint for the pin at minute 14:35? I got confused when I saw you make the hole and chiseled it out but then on market 16:00 you showed the female side with the pin hole chiseled and cleaned. Just curious. Thank you for your video. And welcome back ive missed your videos.

Thanks for following along, it means a lot :) No, I just didn't want to show the whole chopping of both sides, it would have been kind of redundant. Also the mortised piece looks waaay cooler ;)

10:27 is the saw broken or did you modify it for building hand planes?
@DorianBracht5 ай бұрын
Totally broke it.... it hurts so bad to hear the sound of the saw snapping 😭

What is the curve in that saw for? Shop modification?
@DorianBracht5 ай бұрын
Yes, that's totally it! I did not snap it by accident because I was sidetracked whilst sawing a tenon. Nope, defo a shop modification ;)))

Hello Dorian, congrats for the release of your book, you are one of my favorites with H Carpenter. Just a question, what are the chisels sizes you use the most ? Thank you,

13:00 Are you sure all this effort put on the roughing holes saved any time?
@DorianBracht5 ай бұрын
Yes, it did. Not much, but it ups the precision, since there is less material in there and I can take lighter cuts.

Nice intro + super good joint.. (And I am happy that the music has stopped after a while 👍) Funny😂How you pick the joint from a 'Japanese' book, but in the title you wrote 'Chinese Joinery' I guess you did that for entertainment purpose
@leoelamri40545 ай бұрын
The joint could have been created by Chinese and documented by a Japanese. Or by a Chinese residing in Japan. "Mr. Qiao" doesn't sounds Japanese at all :p
@pihermoso115 ай бұрын
Chinese architecture trickled down to it's neighbours and this can be seen in Korean and Japanese architecture, those Dougong brackets used in Chinese temples are also used in Korean and Japanese temples
@DorianBracht5 ай бұрын
Thank you! The book I wrote has nothing to do with the joint. I was just promoting it. The book I got the join from is by Mr Qiao, a person very well versed in Chinese furniture and building tradition.
