Beautiful locomotive. And I've got a friend named Al who takes photos of all trains, including this one, for a hobby. He's VERY good at what he does, at age 77, and even gave me a shot he took of #844 as she was on her way back from Tennessee to her home in Cheyenne. #844 stopped in Salisaw, Oklahoma, for a brief period, but Al got a shot of her when she was on final approach into Salisaw. I have that shot in an 11-X-14" frame.

Beautiful beautiful catch. To me it is very rare to see those train still operational. Usually I would see them in museums but you're lucky to catch, film, load, & share. For that I thank you very much. I LOVE the horn!!

Great to see the 844 back in action. The up knows how to railroad and they do it big time unlike csx who like to think they are big time but in actuality cant hold a candle to a short line.

The Northern's are both beautiful and purposeful. A remarkable engineering achievement considering they were designed about 75 years ago.

I just noticed that the second Union Pacific diesel locomotive at 1:14 appears to be numbered 844!

There actually used to be a diesel numbered 844, so UP 844 was re-numbered 8444 for a short time.

Note the fireman(?) with the jug containing boiler water treatment(?) 99 percent sure that's what was happening. I don't know what's in it. Helps prevent scale build-up. Diarrhea if one drinks treated boiler water. So I was told as a wee lad. I cry when I watch this. A beauty, a true work of unintended art. Indeed, all nice and shiny like new paint. Would like to see it run over the Moffat in Colorado. Would not be shiny at all. Like real life at the time. These were incredibly dirty, grimy, too hot, too cold, lung-killing beasts. Every railroader I talked to who worked these monsters said, in effect, they'd pay good money just to work another day with them, but would quit and go pump gas if they had to work every day with them. Railroaders at the transition loved the Diesels. My father fired, then qualified as engineer, in coal-burners racing between Baltimore and Washington at 80 miles per hour. Yep, a deep emotional attachment. I miss my dad. He'd be 100 in a month. My dad would grumble about the engineer leaving the cylinder cocks open for so long.

I realize that this comment is two years old, but I want to put this out there- UP 844 does NOT burn coal. Instead, it burns recycled diesel oil, which is much less of a fire hazard than coal.
