You are spot on with this. I have had the same experience with practicing. I have been playing 45 years now and you are correct. It took me a long time to realize not to mess around when practicing but once I started to organize what I wanted to play and really practiced everyday for 3-4 hours my playing took off. You must identify your weaknesses and concentrate on them instead of playing what you already are good at. No magic just plain old focused hard work.

Oh no, I've been a Jojo fan for years now. He is such a beast when he practices, that's why he needs to. His solo's on his DVD are ridiculous as well as some important gigs he's done. It would only take him a week or two of practice to be back at his best.

The x hat under his ride is a stack, he's got an x hat next to his regular hats, and then a sabian chopper on the aux snare side. So 4 hats of sorts.

@runnaman90 I saw him a week ago play here in my town and he played match grip a lot - it was surprising. I knew he switched back and forth but I thought it was 90% traditional - last week it was more like 50/50.

@alstartheman12 жыл бұрын
i believe no one has answered yet, so i will. if you check out his Cymbal setup video from sabian, he explains it. it basically is a 14inch china with a 13 inch hi-hat on top, he uses it to get a little more "oomph". that's why it looks cut out!

Actually, if you flip over a drum head, and put it on top, it sounds really similar. I sometimes use an old snare head upside down on top to get that in recordings!
