When I read the same article, I didn’t connect it to Joseph specifically. I connected to the writing style of having an awesome main character being awesome and a side character expositioning their plans to the audience. For example Speedwagon saying what Jonathan was doing in his final battle against Dio Brando, or Number 6 Sex Pistol in Bruno vs. Pesci.

I wonder if the notion of this was inspired by West Side Story. As in, the notion of modernizing a classic tale, yet allowing some parallels to be there rather than going full parallel. It can help rather than hinder. Boarding School Juliet, for instance, also focuses on the world surrounding the forbidden romance and thus emphasizes its changes, something the original work didn't do.

Actually joseph could have learned battle strategies from his studies. He states that Erica made sure to study his history, and when fighting esidisi, he makes a quote about how the person who plans out there attacks will always win. So couple that with his street smarts ( and hermit purple maybe ), and we have a reason for joseph being as smart and as cunning as he is
