Your videos do a great service to the dirt riding community in this area. I didn't know there was hill climbing at Perry. I pass it on the way to Wayne National. Not anymore. Thanks Luke

Some really nice hills here man. Technical aspects all over like that hump 3/4 of the way up and the lip on the Johnson wall. You guys have balls doing this on quads. I'd go up them on my 650R or L all day but that doesn't tumble down. Glad no one tried the last one on a quad in this video haha.
@LukeCremean11 жыл бұрын
Thanks for recognizing the details and technicality of these climbs. Most don't get all that from videos but do when they see them in person!

Sick hillclimbs! I ride here in Florida at Croom Motorcycle Park in the Withlacoochee State Forest in the city of Brooksville. They used to mine for graphite there and there are some pretty rad, steep gullies and we all climb and jump out of. Some of those hills y'all are on are intense!!! Sweet vid.
@LukeCremean10 жыл бұрын
Nice, yea perry is an old strip mine on most of the land. It makes perfect natural jumps and climbs for us. Most valleys we clear take very little time before we are ripping up the hills.

I see that you have a few thumbs down reviews. In don't know what those people were watching but this is one of the best hill climb videos I have seen on KZbin. That last hill was sick!

Thanks man, I think the thumbs down may have come from the people who hate the clicking sound on my camera.

Cameras don't do those hills any justice . Those are some incredibly steep hills! You guys have huge brass balls.
@LukeCremean11 жыл бұрын
You are right, these hills are very steep and most of them are hard to get traction because of the sandstone and/or roots
@TheBlodg1511 жыл бұрын
Nice. Many of your and the other "pro" hill climber video's don't show how steep these hills really are but in this video it does give a good perspective.

Any tips on hill climbing with a quad? I got my first quad(Yamaha Blaster) and this is the only type of thing i'm scared of
@LukeCremean10 жыл бұрын
Just like with everything else, practice! First you should learn and practice saving the quad on a small hill and work your way up. Always jump off on the right side of the quad and grab the front brake while pushing down on the front tire or your front bumper. If the hill is steep enough, you can pump the front brake to control your sliding back down the hill. When you get good enough you can also choose to slide the front end around towards you while holding the front brake. Hill climbing takes time to learn the right speed, wheel spin, and throttle response. I always look at the hill and try to figure out what could go wrong, this gives me a way to prepare to save the quad when things go wrong. Hope some of this helps, I could go on all day about climbing and/or saving a quad lol
@loganchurch85859 жыл бұрын
The first reply was the best, practice braking and going back down the hill and when your good at that keep trying bigger and bigger hills until you can hit ones like these
@gtocarguy11 жыл бұрын
you guys are really good. even when you crash no one gets hurt and the machines don't go barrel rolling down the hill, trampling people along the way
@liddyyamaha367 жыл бұрын
No thanks on taking on a steep ass hill like that with a quad.. Talk about cashin out once you roll a quad down a hill LOL. Great vid!

In your opinion what's the best tires / size for a 400ex? You climb in 2nd or 3rd mostly?
@bisket200311 жыл бұрын
HAHahahha. I'd like to tag along with you guys when you come down to visit the vill next. Won't hit all the same hills but perhaps I'll learn a thing or two and also get to see these climbs up close and personal.

It depends on the terrain and what you are doing. If you are hill climbing in good dirt a 20x11x9 gbc xrex is a good tire that lasts a long time and is priced well. If you are doing some serious climbing on rocks and tough terrain for traction a pro wedge tire is best for traction but is only 2 ply and lacks side bite. I prefer the maxxis balance tire, it's a all around good tire for traction and is 6 ply. I climb mostly in 1st but some in 2nd....
@LukeCremean11 жыл бұрын
I did install it and it helped but ended up buying a new mount and that did the trick, Thanks for the info.

@CB-ug6xh8 жыл бұрын
Hey Luke, I'm new to driving atvs. Just curious can you estimate the degree of the hills you guys are climbing? It looks close to a 75 degree incline. You guys would probably laugh at the stuff I puss out on so I'm just trying to get an idea of how steep these are so I can make a good judgement of what my machine can handle. I would never attempt any of these but I'm just wondering how steep is TOO steep. I have a 2015 can am outlander 800cc.
@LukeCremean8 жыл бұрын
Hello, most are pretty steep at 60-75 degrees but some are literally walls and close to completely vertical at the tops. Few are even inverted and hard to believe they are climbed until you see it in person. I would be very cautious with that atv when climbing. You are not able to just bail and let the gears do some of the work to help hold the quad on the hill. I would practice locking your breaks and/or using the throttle to hold the quad on a small bank or hill. That way when things go wrong you will know what you need to do to save your quad.
@CB-ug6xh8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the advice Luke. I'm probably over cautious because I ride alone all the time. If I had to guess, the hill I'm hesitant to go up is probably a 45-50 degree incline. Practicing locking the brakes is a good idea. I'll give that a shot.

At 3:18 I'm 2nd gear almost pinned. Most hills I climb in 1st unless I need to skip a rock or jump a wall at the top. My 450r is an 05 and I have it geared down one tooth on the front sprocket.

Yes think of it like the sprockets on a normal mt bike. When the chain is all the way up on the top gear (biggest with most teeth) you are going the fastest with least pedals.
