This is our second K-Classic. We had our first one for many years, so when we had to replace it, we wanted nothing else but this exact kzbin.infoUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf model. We use it for about three people everyday in the morning. The taste and quick brew is one of the reasons we like it so much. There are so many choices of brands of coffee that we would grab what was on sale and test the different brands from there. I would definitely recommend trying different brands of coffee to find the ones you like the most because there are brands that quite frankly taste horrible.

The plus side of the bonavita is that if the machine somehow fails internally, you can simply heat your water and use the carafe and filter housing as a pour-over rig.

I've had my Technivorm for close to ten years so I feel good with my purchase. I have the thermal carafe model. Still is a good coffee maker. I have a Mocamaster and a Bonavita. I use the Bonavita the most out of all my 7 ways I make coffee. The Mocamaster looks great, but the Bonavita has a preinfuse setting. I store the top on top of the basket and the basket on top of the pot. It then slides into the brewer just like you were going to brew a cup of coffee.

The “parking brake” allows you to do an infused coffee with a filter. Using that occasionally for a well-extracted coffee, similar to a French press with a filter, is an enjoyable change of pace.

I have owned 2 Bonavita Connoisseur 8 cup machines. The first one lasted 3.5 years. Replaced the carafe lid once as the lever to pour broke. Then the plastic of the reservoir crazed and cracked. The second one lasted 2 years before the lever on the carafe lid broke yesterday. We loved the coffee brewed by these machines, but the low quality of the materials and the design flaws have been too much. I ordered an OXO 8 cup to replace it and I hope to have better luck this time.

I have a Ninja CE251 which I think is identical to the CE200. I use Bunn coffee filters rather than the screened filter that comes with the unit and I pour hot water into the water container to give it a boost on brew time and heat. The Starbucks Verona Dark Roast I use has a good taste. The machines works and the taste depends on the coffee used. Its not a life changer but I'm good for now. Thanks for the review.

I’ve had my Bonavita for approximately 5 years. The problem we’ve had is the screw on lid that fits over the stainless carafe retains coffee which you have to rinse out. Unfortunately it has left a rancid residue which we can’t remove no matter how much we soak in cleaners or descaling solution. It smells awful and ruins our coffee experience. Our stainless carafe is glass lined so it cleans easily with dish soap and soft sponge. The newer carafes are stainless lined which will also leave a coffee residue unless periodically cleaned with coffee cleaning solution like a stainless thermos. This becomes annoying because you have to boil these cleaners and let it sit in carafe for an hour or so. Otherwise the Bonavita has performed well. One important factor in excellent coffee making is keeping the brewer clean and free of smelly rancid coffee residues. I contacted Bonavita about a new carafe lid but they said I’d have to purchase a new carafe. Guess it’s time we bring up the new Moccamaster we’ve stored in the basement!

You guys are so cute! I have been using a Mr. Coffee forever. Try a permanent filter with a paper one under. That and stop the coffee after about 30 seconds and then start it again after a minute to give it time to bloom and it is quite amazing the difference. I have a very cheap single cup brewer that makes great coffee. But, only if you stop it and let the coffee bloom. Then I stop it about halfway through and agitate the grounds. We drink a LOT of coffee in our house and have tried them all. Our Ninja Coffee Bar has been a game changer. It's lasted WAY longer than anything else and has all of the features we wanted. We can make single cups, a carafe and everything in between. For lazy mornings, we can have it programmed. It does tea, froths milks and so much more. We've been really, really happy with it. The Bonavita is the best cup of coffee - hands down. But the smaller carafe and lack of ability to program it means it sits in our storage area as a backup machine.

I’ve had 3 Bonavitas. I hated the thermal carafe. I prefer the glass with the heat plate, and I loved it. I know they say don’t do a heat plate but I don’t leave it on for very long. I will say I had to go through 3 of them in 6 years. They don’t last long. Customer service used to be great until the got bought out. So I switched to mm. It’s been frustrating for me to get it dialed in but I think finally getting it. I’ve had a Mr coffee and had no issues with that either. Agreed it was always smooth for me. I’m no coffee snob though so as long as it’s good then I don’t care what machine made it. I also had the ninja when I was first released. My ex took that and she just replaced it 9 years later with the same updated model she loved it so much. I thought it was fine but inconsistent. Some times tasted burnt, sometimes good and sometimes great

I have had Bonavita & now, Moccamaster. Chose the glass carafe model because is it easy to wash the glass & lid. Brushed stainless is very difficult to keep spotless/fresh. I remove tank/brew basket lids and stir the coffee breifly. This sinks floaters and evenly wets grinds. Not necessary but result like a Chemex without the hassle. My espresso is Crossland CC1from Pantechnicon Design. Alll coffee ground for each machine moments before brewing.

The coffee cup I use holds 2 measured cups of coffee. I use the better version Mr Coffee than the one you have here. In the morning, I blend the whole pot putting 7 measured cups of water in the machine. Not sure what the numbers are on the pot but they mean nothing that I see. It is sold as a 12 cup coffee machine. I does NOT hold that much water. Maybe 12 tee cups. I grind my own coffee and I also mix the brands at times. This morning I put two scoops of Starbucks and two scoops of Folgers in the machine. I was a very tactful cup. Mr. Coffee machine tends not to get the water all the way around the filter when brewing. I use the round re-usable stainless basket and NOT paper filters. When I start the brewing, I stand at the machine and turn the basket a few times allowing the water to cover all of the coffee. When all of the coffee is covered and the water is floating. I close the lid and allow it to finish. When the machine finished, I turn it off keeping the burner from cooking my coffee. I have a lot of fun mixing coffee brands and sometimes you hit the perfect one. Remember, no two people taste coffee the same. It is all about your preference.

As someone who is a bit of a coffee nerd with many different brewers, including the Moccamaster, I agree with you. What tastes good to you may not for everyone else. I have owned a few quality coffee machines. A deal breaker for me is units that have a hot plate and glass carafe. It is well known the enemy of coffee is heat, this is the reason why coffee at work tastes like crap after it has sat on the hot plate for some time. The better units have a carafe that really is a double walled vacuum thermos with no hot plate. This is the best way to keep leftover coffee warm. In fact for my motorhome, after using a glass french press resulting in cold second cups of coffee, I went out and spent a ridiculous amount on a double walled, vacuum sealed carafe french press (Bodum). I could come back 45 minutes later for my second cup and the coffee was still hot/warm.

Really well done! If you do this again in the future I have a few minor suggestions. I'd personally like to know what grinder and what beans were used just to ensure that it was a reasonably fixed variable. If a cheap grinder was used, the inconsistent grounds can make an enormous impact on the result in your cup, which makes an accurate comparison essentially impossible. Additionally, if sub-par beans were used, it removes the opportunity for a few of these brewers to really shine. I would personally encourage consumers not to purchase the Mr.Coffee for a few reasons you outlined. Wildly uneven extraction and unpredictable temps. It's simply unacceptable in a modern machine. For a similar cost or a bit more, you can find something reliable. Especially with a specialty light roast, the results would be absolutely awful on the Mr.Coffee. If you were a bit disappointed by the moccamaster, there are alternatives in this range you may adore. The Ratio 6 brewer, The Breville Precision brewer, and the Wilfa performance. Im a fan of all of these, though I do have a big soft spot for the Moccamaster. For the cost (especially secondhand) I feel the Bonavita is an excellent choice. Oxo brewers all do well in this range too.

I have pretty much that same bonavita. Basically happy with it but I do notice that the carafe really does NOT keep it as hot for as long as I'd like (and I do tend to preheat the carafe with a bit of hot water). And oddly, after coffee has been in the carafe for a couple of hours, it still has a bit of that 'sitting around' flavor, like maybe some of the water has steamed out of it. I'm not sure why this is the case, since it's not sitting on a burner.

I couldn't justify the price of the Moccamaster so I went with a Ninja. It makes great coffee, but the brewing amounts are preset and you can't deviate from them (it will stop brewing and tell you to add more water). So for two of us, I have to make either a half or a whole pot. Nothing in between. It also leaves an inch of water in the reservoir whenever I do a full pot. Not as pricey as the Moccamaster but it was too expensive to have these quirks and I wouldn't recommend it.

I did not like my Bonavita that much. I liked the carafe, but the coffee was kind of bitter tasting, and even though I cleaned it consistently, the taste kept declining over time

1:18 sounds like weak coffee. Generally you want 1:14 at least. Try 10 grams of coffee per 5 oz (147mL)of water .

Beware of newer ones, though. My old 20+ yr Mr. Coffee drip one with thermal carafe still works, but the start button is finicky now - probably a loose connection. The newer Mr. Coffee Single-serve & Programmable Thermal Carafe maker (k-cup or carafe) is a temperamental piece of junk! I bought the Ninja Dual Brew with stainless steel thermal carafe and love it so far, and I know 2 people that have the Ninja Hot & Iced Coffee maker which makes cup, travel, or into a ss carafe and they both love it!

I'm researching coffee makers. My 2 cup stainless French Press isn't going to cut it for the upcoming board meetings at home. So this Bonavita has struck my fancy and I see the current model does have a sliding rack that holds the filter cup. However others have noted the required storage of the lid. I'm leaning towards this one so far. Nice video by the way.

I do not like coffee, but my parents love it. Mom one cup a day and dad 3 cups a day, me 0 cups per day. For years they relied on the Farberware Percolator ( 8-cup model). One day dad come home with the 'NEW' Mr. Coffee coffee maker, endorse by none other than Yankee Great, and Marilyn Monroe's husband Joe DeMaggio, My parents really tried, probably over most of a year, they drank the Mr. Coffee coffee, but after a year the Mr. Coffee was 'again' ( as other coffee makers were, with the percolator.) replaced with the Farberware percolator. My mom said Mr. Coffee tasted weak. Maybe she like the bitterness???? I wouldn't know because I've never experienced the 'sweetness' that James Hoffmann describes in his videos. All I can report is mom and dad did no like Mr. Coffee because it was too weak. Farberware won out! (at that time). Would have been nice if I could have served my mom and dad with your Bonavita pick Thanks for the video.

Nice review. My personal experience with both the Moccamaster & Bonavita. Loved my Mocca BUT - glass carafe is incredibly thin. After the 3rd one broke despite being very careful and only using it once or twice a week - I tossed my $300 Mocca in the bin and replaced with Bonavita. It works well except for the common complaint with most thermal carafes, coffee left inside that won't pour out. And I agree with with your complaint about the location of the filter basket. Must be a new (worse) design because mine does attach at the shower head. Cheers.

Mr. Coffee for best cup. You take the pot off of the burner and allow basket/filter to fill 3/4 full (or just until water lightly covers coffee grounds). Shut off machine. Stir and allow to bloom for a minute or two. Close lid and turn machine back on. This method works with any coffee maker that has coffee shut off or auto shuts off when pot removed and top opens with open basket for stirring. I also have the $35ish model that allows preprogramme and strong brew option. Maybe the water drips more slowly?

The BonaVita site has a video and they show first watering the empty filter before putting in the coffee grounds--did you do that too? I've seen that also recommended on coffee aficionado channels.
@DannyPops
@DannyPops Жыл бұрын
I suspect that's if you have a lot of coffee so it pours into the filter? I regularly do a 4-6 batch every morning and never do that, but have a few times and noticed only that the filter sticks to the side walls better, but taste is not changed for me.
@ds61821
@ds61821 Жыл бұрын
@@DannyPops It was on the 5-cup BonaVita--they poured water around the empty filter then poured the water in the tank. James Hoffman does this too but he does only 1 cup at a time. BUT, I noticed the 5-cup BonaVita uses CONE filters. James Hoffman also used cone filters when he watered his filter ahead of dumping in coffee grounds. Maybe that is the difference?

@@DannyPops I'm not in his league at all. I like good coffee at easy and cheap prices. I do a pour over for single cups or a French press. But got interested in seeing if I could do better. I'm happy with what I drink (Cameron and LavAzza at Costco). Oh and the BonaVita coffee makers look very good to me. I didn't know of them.

MocaMaster I would not buy again ,I bought one and it developed a crack on the plastic reservoir within 4 months which caused it to leak every time I used it , had to put a folded paper towel to keep it from dripping down . Always thought I could just order that part , today(3yrs later) I tried to take it apart reservoir because it had like black mold lining bottom ,can not be done , put it back together, now it leaking from bottom,was very careful dissembling it …..so trash it goes …..fyi there’s no way to really clean it thoroughly

More sustainable? The environmental impact of the manufacturing and the raw materials of that coffee maker is probably higher than all the coffee filters you will ever buy for it. And let us not forget coffee business itself, which is a huge CO2 producer. In other words, not buying new coffee machines as a hobby is sustainable, not avoiding filters.
