As an engineering ‘lecturer’ at a UK university, I think this video is excellent at explaining the power of OneNote. Many of my students use it to mark up slides or take down my content from the white board. OneNote also works as an app on iPads. They also work with the excellent Apple Pencil. Hopefully, your college gives its students free copies of MS Office - mine does. Overall, I use both a Surface Pro 6 i5/256gb and an iPad Pro 10.5 in/256gb both with their respective pencils. The most important recommendation of the video is that it’s always best to write your notes rather than type (on auto pilot). Even the ‘old pen and paper’ is better for memory recall when you exams come along than typed notes. There is software now for scanning and filing paper notes into the cloud. Being 60 I still recall how to write.....

I just purchased the pro 7 for (going back to) college. I'm definitely an ink and paper kind of gal but I'm excited about digital note-taking. I hope one note is straight foward and easy to use. If not, the tech department is going to HATE me! "It's the old lady who doesn't know how to use her Surface...hide!" Your video about how to use one note was definitely helpful. Thank you. I've watched a dozen or so vids on the Surface Pro and yours has definitely been the most helpful and entertaining. I love your fun, nerdy quirkiness!

Any feedback on the SP7 ? Got mine but seem to be slow ( especially on one note ) I'm hesitant to return it
@kaitshipp4 жыл бұрын
@@dankness4950, I've been looking into things that might possibly cause the SP7 to slow down. The only things I have found that might possibly be the problem is updates that "break" the system. A few of the updates in the recent past have caused problems like making the system run slowly, deleting all settings/customization (I had that one) . What I did was delete the update and restore it to what it was before and wait to the next update. I wait a bit to research the reviews on the current update before applying it, just to make sure it's not going to "break" anything. I use quotes on break, because the SP7 can usually be restored and updates can be deleted (usually). If an update CAN be deleted, it usually fixes the issue. I hope this helps. The only other thing I can think of is having too many high res tabs open (i.e. Hulu, Netflix, KZbin) open at the same time just on different tabs. My 11 yr old had this and once I closed them, just like magic, hers started working well again. I'm guessing you have already tried this one though. Also, the cache fills quickly and doesn't remember the settings you set (i.e. dont remember this ever... still does) and sometimes that creates problems, but emptying it is fast and painless. I do it weekly. Sorry this turned out to be so long. I hope this helps.

@@kaitshipp thanks for the update ! Ive had some windows updates recently and since the system is running fine! Guess they fixed software problems and since it's running really great. On the other hand I was using the wrong app (one note and not one note w10) it's a good writing experience now.

I've been using my 2-in-1 for 1 school week and I just love it so much. Note taking has been so much easier and it's much easier to study now. I can write meters of notes without worrying about running out of space and without having to get new notebooks, which is one of the main reasons I chose to get a 2-in-1 as my laptop for college. The main challenge for me is to get used to how writing feels on a tablet laptop, since it still feels way different from using pen and paper. Still, the benefits outweigh the costs and now I don't have to study with tons of paper strewn across my desk.

Love this video. Everything in this video is exactly why I love using Surface. I'm a slow writer so dealing with jumpy lectures slows me down cuz I have to erase and go back and write stuff. With surface and onenote I can delete words and letters quickly. Rearrange sentences into a better format. And switching between a highlighter, pen, and different colors of each is factually faster on a tablet. I've never been able to have colorful notes with physical note taking tools. Surface has changed that and looking back at my notes is way easier because of it.

Can I ask what made you switch from the iPad pro 2018 to the surface pro? I keep hearing about the iPad pro bending which is making me look at other options. Has yours had this issue?
@Satoshi_Nguyen5 жыл бұрын
@@morelhunter3966 Hi Morel, thanks for your reply and my apology for late response. I was pretty busy for the last 2 weeks. The iPad 2018 I was mentioning in my comment is iPad 2018 6th generation (much cheaper). I would never buy the iPad Pros since they are just simply overpriced and I'm not gonna use the most out of it. First, if you have a chance to use both iPad and Surface lines, you would really notice that you would not be able to use the iPad alone. You still need a laptop to do jobs (e.g. office and other programs). Typing on the iPad with keyboard covers from Apple is awful (without the trackpad). Second, writing on Surface lines (with new Surface pen) is much more natural now, I mean it is a bit more resistant (mostly because of new pen tips) and it makes you feel like writing on a piece of paper (not 100% but still much more natural than writing on iPad). Besides, you could imagine how convenient having an eraser on a pen is when you do writing notes. Last but not least, I could carry my Surface Pro 6 with me for all the jobs. If I have to pick what I am not happy with Onenote, this should be a page setup. I understand you could write on an infinite page, but if you would like to extract it as PDF file, it looks really bad. I would be really happy to see if there is an option that Onenote organizes pages as continuous A4 pages. I have Surface Book 2, Pro 6, and Go. If I do have to recommend you one of them, I would suggest you go with Surface Go (if you already owned a decent laptop). Surface Go (128 Gb) is great, writing and typing is okay, and it is very lightweight. If you do not own any laptop, or consider buying a much more powerful Surface product, I would highly recommend you to wait a while since a new Surface event is around the corner (October 2nd). I bet there would be new products and price of current items would drop eventually after that. So no hurry :)

I'll probably buy the Surface Go soon. As a poor student I just cannot allow myself to get the Pro, but the internet seems to be pretty positive about the Go as well! This video was absolutely fantastic, and I am looking forward to using the rainbow pen in OneNote haha

Hahaha my roommate loves using the rainbow pen! I’m sure the Go is just as good for note taking! Best of luck:)

Funnily enough I revived an old Surface rt just to take notes at school. You can actually write in OneNote with external pads such as Wacom drawing pads lol, so the Tablet part is not an essential part of writing down notes digitally. That counts especially if you're on a low Budget (which is common for students).

Hahhaha I died laughing when you brought up the professors that don't let you use devices to take digital notes. I was like yeahhh my philosophy professor was like that and then bamm you pulled out your philosophy notebook. I almost cried while laughing. It was your philosophy professor as well who made you take paper notes. I feel you girl. 🤣🤣👌👌 We probably even had the same professor. If you live in PA, my philosophy prof teaches at multiple colleges so I wouldn't be surprised if you had him.

I think the best strategy for excellent notes is to get to know this girl and buy her notes from her. I'd try to hire her to attend my classes with me just to take notes.

Another one note feature I saw in another video. You can record the lecture and then if you get to a section and are confused by what you wrote or missed part you can select that area and play the part of the recording from that point do you'll know what was being said when you took those notes.

I wish I could print my damn notes... it's the one pitfall of OneNote having an infinite canvas, I just wish it were more like Notability or Goodnotes in that it's made for printing. I'm proud of my notes, ok. What you didn't mention that's cool as hell: -you can import Powerpoints and pdfs, which is like. A lifesaver at Uni. -Double clicking the top of your Surface should take a screenshot. Just crop it and drop it in OneNote. Boom. -You can easily splitscreen on the Surface -Yes, Palm Rejection is a thing, and OneNote does it well. If it's somehow not doing it's job well enough, there's a setting within the windows settings that completely disables touch input while your pen is within range of the screen (which is when you can see a cursor under the pentip). You can rub your palms all over the screen while you write, it won't make a difference. Things to remember: -You can't fucking print OneNote pages because the formatting is whack -Sharing OneNote pages is hard if someone else doesn't have OneNote (cause infinite canvas) -It crashes sometimes -You can't rotate anything for some reason -again, and I cannot say this enough, you cannot print -Very limited selection of tools (it's enough, though) -a4 pages for printing or at least formatting tools to configure how i want to print my page would be nice microsoft
