This is literally The Last of Us Part II again. No one thought Joel and Arthur Fleck were morally good people but what we did think was they were interesting well acted characters who were survivors of there environments and we had empathy for them and understood there decisions. Joel lost his daughter to humanity and just wanted to be a dad again, Arthur was kicked down and spit on by the world and just wanted to feel like he had some power and agency in his life. Instead the creators of the sequels just wanted to throw all that interesting moral ambiguity down the drain and tell the audience "You're bad for liking these people and thinking there interesting! This is how you should think and feel". Both Joker 2 and Last of Us Part II didn't need to exist and they both did nothing but tarnish the legacies of the first.
@emanuelespinoza93252 ай бұрын
I beg to differ about "The Last of Us Part II." In the end, the whole theme was about revenge and how much of a vicious cycle it is.
@LivingGhost12 ай бұрын
@@emanuelespinoza9325 Except Ellie sparing Abby is pointless because she still ends up losing everything. If they wanted to have that message either Ellie kills Abby and dies from her wounds or lives and loses her family or Ellie decides not to go after Abby and still keeps her surrogate family intact. Instead she spares Abby and still loses everyone she cares about. How does that make sense? She supposedly gave up on the vicious cycle of violence and still lost while Abby was rewarded who was the main catalyst for it because she got to survive and has Lev. How is Ellie losing everything a satisfying ending when a majority of what happened wasn't her fault? Now if it was Joel who lost everything by the end like Ellie hates his guts, his brother got killed and he's shunned by the community of Jackson I could understand that but Ellie? It was just misery porn for the sake of it!

There were multiple directions a Joker sequel could've gone that would've been interesting. Unfortunately, we didn't get that because Todd Phillips clearly had no interest in making this movie except to collect a massive paycheck and to try and get into the good graces of Hollywood because they hated the first movie and despise how successful it was because it portrayed that a man particularly a white straight man can be a victim and have mental health issues. That goes against there narrative. All Todd Phillips has done now is tarnished both his career and the original film. Joker: Pretentious French Subtitle bombing not only at the box office but with both critics and audiences is the epitome of "You get what you fucking deserve!".

Did u really have to race bait? Funny how conservatives always complain about liberals race baiting yet they do the same all the time
@boomstickcritique9023 ай бұрын
Joker 1 was made to inherently be a stand alone. Phoenix Joker wasn't a super villian or mastermind he was just a mentally ill man he was grounded take on the Joker thats why he wasn't suited for sequels. With that said if Phillips wanted to make a proper sequel that correct approach would be having Harley meet Joker in the asylum and them forming an actual love bond that turns him back into the Joker and probably ends with both being shot down in the nut house after going on a killing spree in the asylum. Instead Phillips wanted to make an anti Joker movie that was a middle finger to fans of the character and the character himself.
@LivingGhost13 ай бұрын
@@boomstickcritique902 I guarantee Todd Phillips just wanted to make a standalone movie about a failing comedian in the 80s who becomes a criminal but he couldn't get it made until he attached a known IP being Joker to it. When it became way more successful than he realized it would he didn't want to do a sequel but he was offered so much money that he couldn't say no. He also purposely made it an "F you movie" to both the studio so he wouldn't have to do another one and to the audience so he can get more gigs in Hollywood because it doesn't matter anymore if your films don't make money as long as they have the "right" politics they'll give you more jobs. Failing upwards is the new norm there now. An idea I was thinking of is what if Harley became obsessed with Joker after seeing what he did on TV (You could even replay the footage of him killing Murray from the first movie) only we see it from her POV as she's watching TV. She loves the TV movie made about him and watches it over and over (They could've actually shown it and have it be really crappy and not accurate at all like those old school ones from that time period) so Harley gets her way into Arkham to meet him but Arthur is just drugged up and non despondent so she's let down but she gets him off the meds and he starts becoming Joker again but now its Joker who doesn't care about her until she embraces being Harley Quinn and that's when they become a couple and the third act is them escaping and on the run and either they get away or go down in a blaze of glory. The message could've been about people who obsess of killers they see in the media.

Maybe they used nightsticks just to be cruel idk. The main theme of the film is the role of the media in today's world and how they create "heroes", often out of nothing. Everything bad happens because of the media and how they present reality. They can turn an ordinary criminal into a movie, they can create his image as a liberator, they can give him a completely new identity and make him become a celebrity. We have seen such productions before in "Natural Born Killers". Joker is very similar in this, except that Fleck is ultimately able to distinguish between what is fiction and what is reality. I perceive the second part of Joker as a warning to journalists and society, because it is not just the director's vision that pathological cases rise to the rank of celebrities, whom the crowd then begins to adore and imitate in order to live like them. Live their fame. I'm glad that there's finally a director who can bring shine to this issue.
