Entire point in making this movie is to destroy that version of the Joker because he was considered by mainstream to be too politically dangerous (I know, stupid.) Point is making him to denounce being the Joker so another generic safe Hollywood insert version can take over. Movie is almost meta and tells you what people in Hollywood think about people who liked the first movie. Shame, they could make this onto an interesting more grounded and realistic take on the character, instead they basically used this movie to retcon the first one.

Arthur is not the Joker. That's the whole point. Everyone wanted Arthur to be joker - the audience and Gotham City. He never was. He started the trend and the real "Joker" potentially killed him, or he has not been identified yet. Harley Quinn is on to her next adventure to find "Joker". It was a very great film in my opinion.

HUGE SPOILER ALERT ⚠️ I liked the movie because I think the director wanted to explore the impact of the character of the Joker on the world , to like criticize how people get influenced by killers and tend to idolize them. Todd Phillips explored even more the Human side of his Joker with him realizing how horrible his acts were and how he says that "Joker never existed" that he could say it's everyone fault when in reality it's only the fault of Arthur Fleck and that he wish he could have changed what he did but he can't , we can see that evolution through the movie of him embracing his madness and then realize it's just a bad idea. For the music side , I thought it was a great idea to be more clear about when characters are in a moment of total madness , and the scene with Harley singing and Joker asking her to stop singing and speak to him really make the purpose of those singing moment clear. In the end all those critics that just wanted a Joker 2 with a more violent Joker looking like the one from The Dark Knight are just like Harley , they love the Joker, not Arthur Fleck when Todd Phillips wanted us to focus on him all along , to make a Joker who is more Human.

Yeah I saw this. I really liked the first Joker, a 7.5/10 (which is rlly good by my Letterboxd standards, I glazed the shit out of it before for some reason) but this was horrible. I hated what they did with Gaga and her plot line was one of the worst in cinema. Joaquin Phoenix carried the previous movie and now he cannot even get time to shine. His arc and his Taxi Driver transformation happens in the first movie itself so this dumbass sequel just has him laze around in a Star Wars prequel type movie. It’s so bad
