I guess this probably goes against the conventional wisdom about sequels, but I don't think a movie that's part of a previously-established property or continuity is obligated to appeal to fans of the previous installments. (I know that said fans, in particular, are fuming at this statement, but I stand by it.) Edited to directly answer the OP's question: Presumably, this movie was supposed to be for people who like Lady Gaga and musicals and liked the idea of adding both of those to a movie about Joaqin Phoenix's Joker. It's not that deep.

@@jazzycat8917 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ My explanation doesn't imply that the decision to make such a movie was a correct decision, by your standards, my standards, box office standards, or anything else. I just find that the world in general tends to make more sense when I assume that other people make decisions for reasons that make sense to them, and then try to figure out those reasons, rather than insisting that their decisions simply must be irrational because they aren't the decisions I would have made.

Watching The Last Jedi for the first time in theaters is to this day my favorite movie theater experience, even above seeing MCU movies. I recently rewatched all 9 Skywalker Saga movies and I love the sequels altogether, despite the vitriol from Star Wars “fans”. I don’t think there was a massive amount of subtlety in the original but there was room for speculation. Looking back, i don't think we should be surprised Joker 2 turned out the way it did. Todd Phillips has always seemed like a edgelord nihilist so off course he would make a movie to show his contempt for the audience who liked his first Joker movie. He had similar contempt towards "society" for making the arthur into the joker in the 1st one. That's on-brand for people with that kind of sensibility. That's what's been consistent between the 2 movies the cruel nihilism.

I'm conceptually opposed to the idea of big as a bus Batman. Batman should be built like an elite rock climber. Extremely lean, potentially densely muscled, but not like a competitive bodybuilder. Batman does not do bicep curls

I imagine the Rugrats movie will be animated characters in real environments. That's what the sonic movies essentially are and I imagine it could be cheaper than going fully animated

The best thing about joker 2 bombing is I'll be able to buy the steelbook at a discount. I think it's a great movie. It was never intended to be a comic book movie and certainly not a super hero movie. It's a tragedy about an abused guy with a mental disorder in a terrible world.

I'm thinking King in black would refer to kingpin, maybe he's working up a sinister six? He's been active in the city for some time it would make sense Peter started running into his thugs when he started focusing on street level things after no way home

That was the original plan, a street level story with Kingpin and Daredevil but Sony wants to push their magnificent SPUM hence Knull. I doubt Feige wants Sony Venom anywhere near MCU but there was a new deal between Disney and Sony so who knows.

My problem (with both of these films) is.... this is not the Joker.... theyve just slapped the "Joker" label on it to make money. Even in the first film it never felt like the Joker to me, it felt like Arthur Fleck a depressed, mentally ill person putting clown makeup on..... Thats not the Joker. You can slap clown paint on any serial killer and call them "Joker", but that doesnt make it that character. Neither of these films for me felt like the comic book character I love. Id hoped that the sequel would embrace the character more, but it just went backwards.

Idk why this movie is getting so much hate I felt like it was a worthy sequel expanding on everything from the 1st but the real kicker is how it was reflective of how ppl are treating this movie how it ended
