Joker is an upcoming American psychological thriller film distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures and based on the DC Comics character Joker. It is intended to be the first film in a series of DC-based films separate from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU). The film is directed by Todd Phillips from a screenplay he wrote with Scott Silver, and stars Joaquin Phoenix as the Joker, along with Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Bill Camp, Frances Conroy, Brett Cullen, Glenn Fleshler, Douglas Hodge, Marc Maron, Josh Pais, and Shea Whigham. Set in 1981, Joker follows Arthur Fleck, a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane and turns to a life of crime and chaos in Gotham City.
Development of a standalone Joker film was confirmed in August 2017, after Warner Bros. and DC Films decided to deemphasize the shared nature of the DCEU. Phillips was set to direct, produce, and co-write the script-inspired by executive producer Martin Scorsese's films Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, and The King of Comedy-with Silver. Leonardo DiCaprio was considered to play the Joker before Phoenix became attached to the project in February 2018; he was cast the following July, and the majority of the cast had signed on by August. Principal photography began in September 2018, taking place in New York City, Jersey City, and Newark, and concluded the following December.
Joker is scheduled to be released on October 4, 2019.

This is the exact reason why I don't like Ledger's Joker as much as the others (except Leto, he sucks). The big part of his character isn't only the one bad day aspect and the ensuing anarchy, but the comedy of it, the joke and the punchline at the end when you finally die. That's why I have high hopes for this movie.

In comics he said "If I had to have a past , it should be of multiple choice" (not exact words) The recent IGN review said that this movie embraces this idea and viewer will have a free will to decide what was imagined and what was real . One thing that I noticed is that Arthur only truly smiled with happiness when taking care of his mother (even making money to take care of her) and that he was forcing himself to laugh at the comedy club. Joker smiled and laughed at pain. Almost as if Arthur can only find what he has lost through Joker.

Hi guys. From the first looks I was really dubious about this film. But...after watching this trailer it absolutely blew me away! Phoenix looks like he puts his soul into the role as a tortured individual who is disillusioned with everything and descends into madness due to the corruption and hate in Gotham City. T H A N K Y O U. Not trying to start a xeno fight. I'm American, I like my country, I like the U.K. also, but I've been so disappointed with some of these American reactions to this amazing trailer. Most of these said reactions are "it looks weird, yea.. really weird" or "huh.. I don't get it.." or "I guess it looks interesting, it is really weird". My reaction was much like y'alls. I've watched this beautiful and perfect trailer probably 20 times. It just blows my mind how many of these other reactors are totally missing the brilliance of this trailer, the music, the acting, the editing, the lighting, the framing, everything about it. I really want to see this now. It looks fresh, interesting and even poetic which is rare nowadays. It's story and character driven rather than rely on explosions and excessive CGI My favourite moment is where he's coming down the steps at the end, even though we only see a couple of seconds in the trailer, it looks like a big moment for the film.
