The joke at the end essentially relates to Batman and Joker’s relationship: the first inmate (Batman) is able to make the leap across, but the second inmate (Joker) can’t bring himself to do it. Here’s where things get interesting: The first inmate tries creating a bridge made out of light from a flashlight so that the second inmate is able to cross over. But as we all know, that wouldn’t work because light is intangible. This essentially relates to Batman trying to help the joker because just like a bridge made out of light-it’s all an illusion since you can’t cross a bridge made from light. As for the second prisoner: he isn’t concerned with the fact that he can’t cross a bridge made from a flashlight light, he is concerned that the first inmate will turn off the light when the second prisoner is halfway through. This shows that the second inmate (Joker) is just too far gone. So no matter how much Batman tries to help the Joker-it’s an impossible illusion. Batman laughs along with Joker at the end because he gets the meaning behind the joke and realizes that he and Joker aren’t that different in terms of sanity. They are madmen chasing one another.

@@anakamarvelous It's not definite that Batman kills him, Alan Moore left it kind of ambiguous, but it does seem to be heavily implied. In the comic, instead of the Joker's laughter cutting short, there's a beam of light on the ground that cuts off in the last panel, alluding to the joke about the first prisoner killing the second by switching of the beam of light. We don't see what happened between Batman and Joker as they're out of shot for the last couple of panels, but I think it was implying Batman killed him.

this movie shows a picture of a dead jason, which is interesting because in the comics the events of killing joke happen before jason's death and is actually referenced in the jason death story (batman: death in the family) as the last time batman and joker fought prior to him escaping from arkham at the start of jason's death story. Barbara is also shown at jason's funeral in a wheelchair. From context clues it makes it seem as if the events of killing joke and death in the family occur within 6 months- a year of each other.

That’s why I like them in the Arkham trilogy don’t get me wrong I love Arkham Origins massively underrated game, but the reason they did new voice actors for that was because Arkham Origins was basically Batman Year 1 just done in an another way. So basically Bruce Timm (he spearheaded the creation of the Batman and Superman animated series from the 90s, the art style those shows use is his) decided to continue pursuing his weird artistic choice to have Bruce Wayne and Barbara Gordon have a very off putting romance. He and Paul Dini gave us Harley Quinn but man he just has to go and be a weirdo with his bat girl and Batman ideas lmao. @nic558 Couple years late, but in the comics, they happened at around the same time, with Killing Joke intending to be a non-cannon elseworlds story (the implication that Batman killed Joker at the end)that got too popular, so was made cannon after the fact. As a result, it's kind of a toss-up over what occurred first. The Death in the Family interactive Movie for example has one of the reasons for Jason & Bruce's fallout being him learning and getting pissed about the Killing Joke. I'd say that interpretation makes the most sense because Batman was VERY notably more violent after Jason's death, ESPECIALLY in regards to the Joker. So him trying to help Joker AFTER Jason's death, at least in such a small time frame, seems out of character.

Yeah, this movie is a very uncomfortable spot in animated history. While the second half is pretty much the adaption of the comic, the first half makes the whole thing sooooo uncomfortable. Joker didn’t go after Barbra because she’s Batgirl. He went after her because she was Commissioner Gordon’s daughter, and it was a way to hurt both Gordon and Batman through Gordon. The whole thing with her and Batman being a sort of thing just makes the whole experience weird. Then again, the whole thing is because the guy behind this movie (who is also the people behind the original animated series) has wanted Batgirl and Batman to be a thing for years, and took this opportunity to make his “fan fiction” reality.

The Joker's goal was actually quite simple: in a single day he lost everything, his house, his wife, even his unborn child, it was the worst day of his life, and it made him go completely crazy, so for that time on his life goal would be to prove that with only a single bad day, anyone, no matter how pure or kind this person is, can become as crazy as him

The joke Joker was telling Batman at the end was basically about them two. Batman was laughing at the irony of the joke. Joker is basically calling Batman crazy himself for believing that Joker can be rehabilitated but Joker knows that there’s no hope for him. And that him and Bat will forever be in an endless cycle of fighting each other until one of them dies.

The bad part is the 1st 30 mins that they made-up for this movie. Also the joke is that the one inmate doesn't have a problem with being able to cross the building walking over a beam of light (which of course, you can't do), but that the other inmate would turn it off before he made it across. In the graphic novel the end is ambiguous, some people think Batman strangled Joker at the end.

If you were annoyed that she didn't looked though the peep hole ( 17:30 33:18). You should read the comic "The batman chronics" issue 5 (you can read it online). It's about Barbara after being shot. I think it is a critic to the writer of "The killing joke", and how they used Barbara as a victim. She's shown actually dealing with it. Plus, there is no relationship with Bruce.

Last joke was actually the meaningful part of the movie it is sad that you didn't understand. Joker says there is 2 guys in a lunatic asylum (Batman and Joker is the 2 guy and they are trapped in their own minds) one day they want to escape, First guy (Batman) says hey I gotta flashlight I will hold it to the other building and you can walk on it.(Meaning is, Batman wants to do an impossible thing, helping joker...) While the other guy says: What do you think I am crazy, you will turn it on when I am halfway cross. It shows that Joker is not trusting him no matter what... And when Batman and Joker laugh together you can hear that after Batman holds Joker, Joker stops laughing and Batman counties. Killing Joke is this... This movie shows as how similar are Batman and Joker

It's implied, in the comic that this is based on, that when Batman laughs at the Joker's joke, he strangles the Joker to death. When Alan Moore originally wrote this story, it wasn't canon and therefore the Joker dying at the end is completely plausible. However, DC Comics liked the idea of paralyzing Barbara and decided to make the story canon minus the implied murder of the Joker at the end. John Ostrander, who was writing Suicide Squad at the time didn't like the idea of Barbara not being useful anymore and used his book to reintroduce her as ORACLE and made her more powerful in a wheelchair than she ever was as Batgirl.
