Here's how Taco Bell stays in business across the street from the taco truck: People in California don't consider Taco Bell to be Mexican food. So at any given point, they might ask themselves "do I want Taco Bell, or do I want Mexican food?" In effect, the two aren't in direct competition with each other.

@MrDanielSolano007 Yeah totally. There's this general sort of "Chinese food" place that all serves pretty much the same menu of mostly Americanized Chinese food. Your egg rolls, beef and broccoli, General Tso's, etc. Having lived on both the east and west coasts, I think the east has those places locked down in terms of consistent quality. They sort of suck in California at least. But, if you look for specific Chinese cuisines, that's where the West shines. Look for Szechuan, Cantonese, Dim Sum, etc.

Quick Lesson!! ❤ from your Mexican follower haha Al Pastor is a traditional Mexican dish made with seasoned and marinated pork. The name translates to “Shephard Style,” which is derived from the origin of the cooking method. Although al pastor is a Mexican meat, the style of cooking is an original of the Lebanese. We had many Lebanese immigrants during the 1930s. In Mexico City there is also a taco called “ el taco árabe “ which translates to Arab taco. Even though in Mexico there is less then 10% of middles eastern that make up our population that is still a very high amount for a very populated country and they have really influenced some of our culture

Enjoying the videos of them trying real food in the US, but it's becoming shockingly apparent that nobody knows how to cook in the UK. Like simple things like brining with acids, using the natural MSG of mushrooms to bring out flavors or even making milk gravy. I don't kow why I'm still surprised that they don't use Marmite in the melted butter to top popcorn. I just recently tried the stuff and that was one of the first things I did after the classic toast.

In case anyone wanted to know the reason al pastor is called what it is, is it's basically "shepherd style". The locals in Mexico saw Lebanese immigrants essentially making shawarma, and they started making tacos in a similar style, ironically with pork which Muslim immigrants would not have eaten, but it was originally made with lamb. The tortilla were pita bread. It was invented in I think the 1920s or 1930s.

@AwesomeTea I believe roti uses wheat flour and other common ingredients in the west. Masa corn flour for tortillas, and other Mexican foods, though requires more than just corn alone. The corn has to be aged to maturity then dried completely. After its dried its cooked with calcium hydroxide powder and water in a process called nixtamalization. The softens the kernel hull, and makes the inside of the kernel starchy. After that it's cooled, and then ground into masa dough. In Mexico it's not hard to find these ingredients--Mexicans make tortillas daily. However outside of Mexico, particularly in places with few Mexicans, it's more difficult to source, particularly the calcium hydroxide. There was a reason that when corn was introduced to Europe, and they adopted it as a staple, some developed the nutrient deficiency known as Pellagra. Europeans never learned about the nixtamalization process. Nixtamalization enables vitamin B (niacin), vitamin C, and calcium among other nutrients to be easily absorbed by the body. Together with rice and beans (other Mexican staples), the trio forms a complete vegetable based protein.

@@danmur2797 That's true for corn tortillas, but we also have... wheat flour ones. Flavor wise they're just thinner roti. You get different types of wheat in different parts of Mexico, but the general recipe doesn't change much.

from Spanish, "shepherd style" tacos al pastor, or tacos de trompo is a preparation of spit-grilled slices of pork originating in the Central Mexican region of Puebla and Mexico City, although today it is a common menu item found in taquerías throughout Mexico. The method of preparing and cooking al pastor is based on the lamb shawarma brought by Lebanese immigrants to the region. Al pastor features a flavor palate that uses traditional Mexican adobada (marinade). It is a popular street food that has spread to the United States. In some places of northern Mexico and coastal Mexico, such as in Baja California, taco al pastor is known as taco de trompo or taco de adobada. A similar dish also from Puebla that uses a combination of middle eastern spices and indigenous central Mexican ingredients is called tacos árabes.-

Just wanted to say, the past 8 months have been very rough for both my wife and I, managing an inordinate amount of stress coupled with a string of painful losses. It has been hard, but we have found a great deal of comfort in just sitting on the couch, throwing on some Jolly/KE and enjoying each other's company. ollie's 'i thought mules were little already' was so sincere and authentic it cracked up my funny bone!!! with ollie you can never guess when his jokes will hit ya. i cant understand most people's jokes, but i understand ollie's and that's one of the major reasons i LOVE their channels!

Al pastor has a really interesting story too. Middle easterners moved to Mexico and brought that kebab style meat with them. So the Mexicans saw a great idea and made it Mexican. And it’s phenomenal!

As a Mexican ❤I am so happy right now!! I wish you guys would take a trip to Mexico and enjoy our culture. But taco trucks are close to the tacos in the streets of Mexico especially in LA and also Al pastor IS NOT HAWAIIAN. The pineapple has always been how it’s marinated since ancient Mexico times.

I never really saw it in the west but in asia we have this like stand up comedy but with 2 people on stage interacting with each other but also crowd work, written stuff and also improvisation. Olli and Josh are such characters fitting right into that xD
