The first energy drink I ever saw was when I was in college in 1985. It was called Jolt and the slogan on the can said, "All of the sugar and twice the caffeine." That was pretty hilarious considering it was right in the middle of that health craze. I never drink energy drinks because I think they taste horrible but about 20 yrs ago, I bought one just for the can. It's called Whoop Ass and I still have the can.

@@blugill2273 Tbf, coffee has more caffeine on average than most energy drinks. I think a big part of the problem stems from the marketing. Not only is a lot of it clearly targeted at teenagers, they are also sold in larger cans than e.g. coffee. It also has to be said tho that most cases of heart disease in young people that have been linked to energy drinks were caused by long term consumption of excessive amounts. So yeah, unless you have a serious energy drink addiction or underlying heart issues, you should be fine.
