It's interesting that in today's pitching environment, teams really stress pitchers keeping a consistent arm slot. It's the complete opposite of the thought process from back in the day. As an example, in "The Science of Hitting," Ted Williams talks about how having multiple arm slots for every pitches effectively increases your pitch repertoire. He believed if a guy threw 3 pitches, but could throw each of them from 2 arm slots, the pitcher essentially had 6 pitches.
@jawbone782 жыл бұрын
He's right, but that's also *why* teams stress keeping the consistent arm slot. Very few pitchers are capable of throwing more than three good pitches, so it comes down to whether or not you want your guys to focus really hard on being able to repeat the three good pitches they have really well, or throw more pitches less well. I think 100% of pitching coaches in the major and minor leagues would prefer to have their guys focus on quality over quantity in their repertoires, but there will always be some freaks for whom the normal rules don't apply.

top tier break down, this also goes to prove of how difficult the sport of baseball is, because this just only part of the battle between pitcher and batter, when many, many more variables could come into play during all this. Lit asf video and great break down! Love the dodgers and im a juan soto fan always, made the video even better. hope people could enjoy all sports and respect each sports craft

This breakdown of the battle between pitcher and batter makes me appreciate the nuances in a way that would otherwise go unnoticed. Thanks man!

Greatest at bat breakdown I have seen yet. All the 3 and 4 letter networks take note.

i really like whatever the effect is that layers the different plays and body positions on top of each other within the same frames

That was awesome! I freaking love the mental aspect of pitching. Thank you for such an entertaining explination of that at bat. I know this is way out there and dating myself, but I remember the Bobby Welch v Reggie Jackson at bat when #44 struck out. I just love battles like that.

When people say why do you love baseball? Because of stuff like this!!! This is such a good battle and so good between the two knowing so much about each other. It’s crazy, but i love it so much!

Love the commentary. Plus the battle of professional wits. Good stuff.

My 7 year old son and I were at the As game last weekend, and my son said "so and so sucks, right Dad?" I explained to him to play at this level, even the guy on the bench not playing has a skillset that most people can not even come close to getting. If you are the best player on your little league team, then your HS team, you might play college ball, and if you are still the best on your team, you might get called up to the show or play AAA, but to have longevity and staying power in the big league warrants respect. This breakdown showcases the level at which MLB is played. Well done.

Never liked baseball (games too long, season too long) but these breakdowns that show off the one on one battles make me appreciate the sport much more. Thank you 👍

Soto is too in love with that shuffle now; he doesn’t wanna swing!

And this stuff right here is why Jomboy is the best sports media. It makes indifferent sports people interested in the sport.

Good breakdown as a person who doesn’t really watch baseball, I don’t really notice things like this whenever I do watch. Thanks

what a battle, the nod of approval from soto was the icing on the cake, it was like him saying "aight, u got me"
