Hats off to Dustin Keegan for the design on 18. Such a crazy risk/reward dangerous hole to end on, and to make players control their nerves on a par 5 that has big possibilities to be eagled or double bogeyed is just so entertaining to watch.
@fogelmclovin26942 жыл бұрын
Wish there weren’t as many mandos. They do create more of a challenge, but they’re artificial and force too many anhyzers or rollers. An open course like this shouldn’t be played like a forest course with forced low ceilings and narrow corridors. Let the pros rip it. Simon, especially, is most fun to watch when he has creative freedom and can choose to just throw over everything.
@drurdizzle2 жыл бұрын
@@fogelmclovin2694 I couldn't disagree more. I love the mandos forcing certain shots to test every aspect of their game. I don't want to see hyzer after hyzer after hyzer. How many courses do they play where they are forced to play position golf with turnover shots? I cannot think of any. Forced annys, rollers, flex backhands, all the things a good pro should have.
@moredots2 жыл бұрын
@@fogelmclovin2694 this course absolutely had plenty of opportunities for the pros to "rip it".
@mattsnyder47542 жыл бұрын
@@fogelmclovin2694 right. Because a basic hyzer every hole is really just the pinnacle of the sport 🙄
@fogelmclovin26942 жыл бұрын
Hole 6: Mando forces safe flex shot. Hole 7: Mando forces uphill flex or roller, eliminating the possibility of rewarding those with an arm strong enough to clear the crest. Hole 8: Mando forced flex turns a hard, long par 3 into an easy par 4. Hole 9: Low ceiling mando turns short, eagleable par 4 into a simple birdie. Hole 10: Mando forces a hyzer flip down the middle, destroying creativity. Hole 12: Low ceiling mando forces hyzer flip or roller, removing the option of a cool spike hyzer over the trees or a long cut roller around the trees. Hole 14: Mando here is actually a good one as it forces a more interesting bomb anhyzer to the landing zone rather than a straight shot through the large wooded gap. Hole 18: Mando trees eliminate the entire right half of fairway. Hole 16 is, to me, the best hole on the course as it balances the option of a Roller, straight, forehand, and hyzer with similar efficiencies. And if you disagree that huge hyzers or flip hyzers aren’t the most entertaining shot in disc golf, then just look at this back 9. The highlight shot here was clearly Gurthie’s second shot bomb on hole 11 where he rips it so hard it hits the chase card.

Big Jerm only went out of his way to avoid spoilers because he missed the cut. Missing the cut usually means you don’t get paid. I’d much prefer Jerm, Nate and Uli all do well enough to play the final day. They already do a fantastic job at not giving away the ending.

I’d say arguably (I’d sure argue) Big Jerm has a much more lucrative future by making amazing calls like this that leave hundreds of thousands of people feeling noticeably more emotion than watching it in real time, continuing to make him one of the preeminent voices of disc golf for decades to come (during the continued explosion of both disc golf popularity and disc golf media, mind you) than he does from missing the cut in one tour stop, bud…😘 why are you up in your feelings about this? I don’t understand. Also, if you are feeling all squirmy about the “free product” then hop on patreon (like I did) or buy some jomez discs (like the 5 or so on my shelf) 🤷🏻♂️ I believe some of this goes towards Jomez paying Jerm, for his commentary, as part of his livelihood, every single time they film a tournament…
