Jon’s new album “True” is fantastic, and the most classic-Yes-like album that any member of Yes has produced in decades. Well worth your time, since you are on your Yes journey. Apparently The Band Geeks were an existing band that covered Yes material. Jon reached out and asked if they wanted to collaborate after seeing a video of them. Apparently he hit it off with the bass player, and decided to record an album of new material.

Thanks for posting this. I got the extreme pleasure to catch their 1st gig last year at njpac in Newark and also this year in upstate New York. Also had the pleasure of playing a gig with one of the keyboard players, Robert Kipp. We shared the stage with one of the Band Geeks great singers Emily Nacchio. I can't say enough great things about this group of incredible musicians! Richie's bass sound is the best I've ever heard in concert. If you have the time delve into the band geeks videos.

How Jon Anderson still sounds like that at 80 years old is truly a marvel of modern science...... with some possible supernatural underpinnings

Hey Justin to be honest this is one of the coolest things you've done since I joined at the beginning of the Rush journey. To quote my late grandfather as he would say to me occasionally "you're alright" lol. He also used to say to me "you're smarter than you look" 😅. Cheers and appreciate you delving deep because Yes and Rush have obviously been my favorites since 76'. 1 and 1a....

You simply MUST check out the album "True" ! It's absolutely stunning and is the best album Yes never recorded! The Band Geeks have put the fire back into Yes-type music. The compositions on the album sound so fresh and passionate, sounding like Yes but with their own stamp of originality. The band are amazing musicians. I just know you will enjoy the album! As for the two keyboard players, The guy on the left of the stage plays Hammond, at which he excels, and the other guy plays all the other keyboards. React to "True"...please! And thanks for your fantastic reactions which I never miss. All the best!

The thing about the Band Geeks with Jon is that they are recreating the Yes classics to sound more like the studio versions. With 2 keyboard players they are able to add all the extra stuff that Yes left out when touring live with 5 people.

His new album is quite good Justin. Especially for a man who recorded it at 78-79 years old. Also, try to replace a Wakeman with only one keyboardist in your band! Lol ty for reaction good sir.

An audience member definitely recorded this magnificent song, because the audio sounds like crud. But, at least the video looks good, and you can get a good idea what the song would have sounded like in concert. I wish this was an official live band video, because Jon and the Band Geeks play Yes music incredibly 🎵❤✌

I don’t get why people go to a concert and sit there recording it on their phone. The whole experience of going to a concert is ruined not only for the person recording it but also for the people having the glare from their phone in their eyes. Just immerse yourself in the experience and try not to yell out right during the middle quiet section of Close to the Edge. I really don’t understand people

Jon really is a most amazing individual. YES has not been the same since 2004. No Jon, no YES. Simple as that.

The Band Geeks with Jon sound great live. The sound on this video is not optimal but it’s fine. The bass player Ritchie Castellano is the bass player for Blue Oyster Cult. He’s a multi instrumentalist. They have two keyboardists to be able to present both the sounds of Rick Wakeman (synths) and Tony Kaye (Hammond). That way they can adequately recreate Yes music from any era. Jon turns 80 this month. Sounds great for his age.

Im surprised to hear of Band Geeks, because my brother (age 70 yes fan since the 70s) just messaged me that he just saw Jon with the “Beat Boys” - does anyone know if this Band Geeks or another band? He also says he saw Rick Wakeman who performed his Yes songs calling it Yessonata….

If you like this, JP, I implored you to react to Jon Anderson & The Band Geeks new album, _TRUE._ That's right. They recorded a whole album together of new Yes like material. I can't say enough good things about the album. It is the closest thing to classic Yes type music, but updated for the 2020's. Jon sounds awesome and The Band Geeks are top of the line musicians and songwriters. There's even a 16 minute epic on the album!

He can be compared to Tom Jones, who at 85(?) belted out an astonishing live version of *It's Not Unusual* not too long ago, just amazing. Of course, Jon's singing voice is the exact opposite of Jones', but it's always impressive when the old vocals chords still hold up with age, whatever it is you bring to the table...

Please check out a video of today's Yes playing the same song and let us know how it compares. Like the most recent live version from Yes that you can find. It's been in their set list in the last few years so there should be something out there.

Justin, you're probably already aware but there's definitely wack audio distortion happening with these live recordings. Re: two keyboard players, that was actually something Jon stipulated for this project. He felt the keyboards were such an important part of what gave classic Yes the harmonic depth and color, and he felt it was always sort of lacking with just one guy trying to do it all. So Chris Clark on the right often handles the signature and lead parts while the other guy (name escapes me) usually provides those harmonic foundation parts. BTW, Albany was very early in the tour so this isn't the tightest or most accurate rendition, but it gives you a good feel for this band and what they brought to these songs. Richie Castellano inserts solo flourishes into the opening because Chris Squire would often do the same back in the day, so it's been a Yes live tradition for eons. And yeah, for a guy pushing 80 how the hell does Jon still sound so good and hit all those notes? The problem is it makes Steve Howe look sort of petty to not reconcile and get Jon back into 'Yes Official'.

Now im tempted to request a Kate Bush comeback song since her voice did change but not as bad as Geddy
@bf99ls2 ай бұрын
Jon requested two keyboard players. Yes could never reproduce all the overdubbed keys from the studio recordings. Even Rick only had two hands!
@dmatianmedia2 ай бұрын
Perhaps the second keys player is there to replace Cowboy Steve since I don't see a steel guitar on stage...
@scottzappa93142 ай бұрын
You gotta be kidding me. Jon is fully active now huh? I MUST see if he's playing in New Hampshire. HE's my fav. male singer. The entire band seems to be worthy. Jon must be a phenom like The Who, Mick Jagger and Robert Plant, they just keep going. Jangly shells and flutes and whistles. Jon is far out man.
@roygaiot81052 ай бұрын
This sounds like an audience recording. There are videos with much better sound quality (and video shooting), as an example: there is an excellent one for Awaken and even Gates - both from the same show -- they are pretty great and Jon is in good form. This is more Yes than Steve's Yes. -- OK, looks like I'm repeating everything what you ended up reading on your screen...

So, where did you leave off the Yes catalog? Did you do all of 90125? How about Big Generator? Should you skip ABWH because they are not Yes songs? Band Geeks songs are a whole lot closer to Yes music than ABWH. I know you haven't touched Union, which is the 13th Yes studio album. 14 Yes songs if you count the non album B side Give And Take. Two instrumentals and 12 with Anderson. 4 songs with Squire, Rabin, White, and Kaye. 8 songs with Bruford, Wakeman, Howe, and Tony Levin. To make Union legally a Yes album, Squire had to do backup vocals on 3 of the 10 ABWH songs that Tony Levin plays bass on. One solo song by Howe, and one duet by Bruford and Levin, both instrumentals. Union is a good album. But as a Yes album, it's a fair album with a few great songs, a few good songs, but mostly fair ABWH songs on a Yes album where Jimmy Haun plays guitar on twice more songs than Howe and Rabin combined. At least 2 keyboard players other than Wakeman and Kaye on half the songs. But still some good music worth the time. I recommend doing two songs at each episode. The non album B side is on the Japanese CD.
