Will that effect the floating of the boat

Nope. boat still floats. But I took the benches out to add more storage and open the boat up some.

Just by removing the middle seat will allow your boat to twist even in fairly calm waters, and quickly cause rivets to loosen causing leaks , and the structure itself to become less stable, and eventually fail. The seats are main torsional braces in this type craft, they are very light weight , and the foam inside can keep it from sinking.

Its getting re done with new foam , new bracing, front and rear decks. I was just showing some ways to take seats out, not saying that it's okay to leave it that way. This is just one video in a long series of this boat build.

theoretically if i take the middle seat out but extend the front seat to reinforce the hull will that help?

Yes, but I rebuilt it with a new deck and no bench seats

I think if you used a tack puller to knock the heads off those rivets you might not slip off as much and find it a bit faster. It might not be worth a damn as a tach puller anymore though. Of course I say this after you’re done. Just stumbled across your channel today and now I’m a new subscriber.

Yeah there is a bunch of ways to bust off the rivets, but I had flathead handy so away I went! LOL. A cold chisel would probably work great too.

Are the seats structural? Can you take the seats out and run it like a sled???

Yes the seats are structural, and I am replacing them with a lot of aluminum framing to stiffen the boat back up.

You think if I pull them from my 17x50 and lay some 1/8” aluminum sheet riveted to the ribs for a floor and be just as secure? Thanks bud !

After doing this I would recommend leaving the bench seats and just cut out the main part of them and leave the rivets and bracing in tact. Just basically make it into 2 ribs and then you can put flooring right over them

@@SendItJonBoats did yours flex a lot? I just wanna keep my transom strong cause I have a 60/40 Yamaha 2stroke jet and a 6hp kicker on it. So like 300lb on my trans. Boat is rated for 5 people and 45hp or 1,200lb gear/motor/people. Something like that.

@@twistedjigco.548 If I could go back and do it again I would have just cut out the part of the bench that I did not need, and leave it as an extra rib. Mine has a good bit of flex now that I removed them but I am going to be putting in a whole new deck and some catwalks so it will eventually be sturdy again. I think in a short boat like a 14 or below removing the bench is fine but mine and your being bigger, no way, it still needs something to hold the sides more sturdy.

@@SendItJonBoats Awsome thank you, in that case I might just cut out the center of the center one and make a walk way through it. The bottoms of my benches don’t rivet to the floor so it would leave me with nothing.

@@SendItJonBoats I gotcha, I have a 14ft that I custom build the inside but I did it out of wood, and 2 duck seasons and couple times fishing the summer regret I made it with wood, so after this duck season I’m gutting it too the hull

I have a 14x36 aluminum FB, would removing the front bench seat allow any flexing? Tia

It will probably flex some, but you can always just cut the seat out and leave the base and rivets in place, That will help keep it more sturdy. I only removed mine because I am adding a deck up front for bowfishing.

@@SendItJonBoats I used to think big flathead screwdrivers were chises/ pry are etc use what you got for sure .I absolutely cringed at first when I seen you do that and was internaly screaming here will give you a chisel lol. Cool videos though , now I can't stop looking for used boats to play with

Depending on the size of the boat, yes it can. On this boat I have plans to add a much larger front deck and a small rear deck so I will be adding in a lot more structural support before this boat hits the water. If I could do it all over again, I would have cut the seats just outside the edges and left the edges and rivets for more support. Live and learn.

@@SendItJonBoats I have a 1648 alumacraft. Funny you say that because I removed my middle seat yesterday and I left the rivets and edges on it. I used an angle grinder to cut it out. I don’t understand if your going to do this major rebuild why you don’t have a proper tool like a $5 chisel. But the screw driver did work as long as the handle doesn’t crack on you lol. Keep putting out the good information for us to learn from. Thanks- you are the Man!

How to ruin the structural integrity and make it unsafe by removing the foam that was in the seats. I’d say wear your life jacket on big water but it’s probably still on the shelf at Walmart.
