I very much agree, the video of heres to that rainy day is the perfect example. his sound all over the horn is so beautiful.

i felt that..it wasnt just about his register..the trumpet was making a statement up there..and he had a smooth simple melody it was amazing...get into the music ..listen to it again

Oh man, I was there for that and it was amazing! He can scream!

if those high notes were not part of the original recording it would be more unnecesssary than saying, "fuck you" at a church
@psmizzle8817 жыл бұрын
excuse me "brunoleicht" but youre not the only "real" trumpet player here. i myself am a "real" trumpet player. the way i got this footage was by being a trumpet player in a jazz band who was accepted into the "Essentially Ellington" jazz festival, one of the most prestigious high school jazz festivals in America. i know it is a "crowd pleaser" that doesn't mean he isn't a good musician.

I love life in the faddisphere!!

you're ungrateful. these are a bunch of high school students who are talented jazz musicians and worked their asses off to be in the presence of the LCJO and to watch jon faddis play along would be a huge honor. watch what you're talking about. and he's not showing off! listen to "rockin' in rhythm".. or any ellington at all for that matter. this man has got history, and chops to match.

Im glad that im not the only one who feels this way.

That is amazing, such power in such a high register, and i love that shake he added, that was so cool, and no one could put him to shame, he can do alot more than play high thats for sure
@psmizzle8817 жыл бұрын
so according to your logic, if a band plays a song at a show, that band must play the song note-for-note, the same way it was in the original recording. now i don't know about you, but according to miles davis and a large amount of other musicians, jazz is both about imitation and paying your dues, but primarily about making the music (or a certain song) your own and playing it in a way that you feel it should be played.

I play the butt trumpet, so I cannot engage you in an argument. Pass the taco sauce, please. Mannn, this burrito is good.

and honestly i dont' understand why people are hatin on the high notes. are you envious, or just enjoy repeating what your instructors have told you. honestly, give me a good explanation why a melodic line (or any line) can't be played up an octave and i'll give you props, but until then, just appreciate the music, don't be dicks, and if you feel like being an asshole, keep it to yourself and write it in a diary.

NO CAMERAS! i almost wasn't allowed in for the 2008 performance at avery fisher hall because i had a camera and i ended up just passing it over the staircase. i wish i was here to see this! i love the LCJO and i love this song to bits

"Someone needs to take that trumpet and smash it across their knee" It's "his knee", not "their knee". "Their" is plural, and I'm pretty sure there's only one dude you're talking about...

This is fantastic. I encourage people to search out Cat's various recordings. I'm particularly fond of his Satin Doll solo on Duke's 70th Anniversary Album. Cat looked like a linebacker and his sound was pure sizzle.

Wow @ some of the above comments! It amazes me how high note trumpet playing can be such a controversy! It's quite funny to me actually. On that note, there's just about nothing more fun than playing really high and really loud over a big band! :D
@rdangelo17 жыл бұрын
Higher? Who cares? Above dubba-C who cares who can go one higher? It's all a freak show up there. The reason I like Faddis is that he can PLAY THE HORN - I don't care how high he can play. Stop overanalyzing these guys, all you wannabes.

my god! i know i love cat anderson! hes one of my favorite trumpeters to come from duke's band (well my favorite for high notes at least) i also like cootie williams (mainly for his plunger stuff). but u have to admit, jon faddis is the best living trumpeter for the job, its basically his style, which is a strength and sometimes weakness for him...

wow loud sizzling and powerful high register! however Cat went higher! with a whistle piercing high notes

"Cat went higher!" Cat Anderson once had a high note competition with Leo "The Whistler" Shepherd. When asked about it afterwards, he said he didn't want to talk about it.
@da11king3 жыл бұрын
@@SamIAm-kz4hg heard about that story 20 years ago, Leo never made his mark like Cat...but he could sure whistle though.

man u need to take the stick out of ur ass and chill, the reason jon is playing high is cuz this song, "rockin in rhythm" has a crazy high trumpet part at the end (listen to "duke live in italy 1967")also, who are u to say that jon sucks?have u heard any other recordings of him or are u basing ur opinions off of what u hear other ppl say?just because he's know for playing high notes and can play them well, it does not mean he isnt musical.

A week ago, I changed my diet to vege. Now my butt makes the same high squeeks as this guy's horn. ESPECIALLY on my initial jut during my wake-up poo. The squeeks aren't for nearly as long in duration, but just as well defined in tone. I figger my typical squeek is 1 second long. Vege.
@rdangelo17 жыл бұрын
What the fuck does that mean? without Cat Jon wouldn't be a great player? Was Cat the first or only high note jazz player? That line of thinking is so faulty, you'll never get any kind of degree at this rate. Stop commenting.

Hey man. I'm with you on this. I think that he is a great player below double g, but above that I dont care.

Wow... he sucks at music? I guess thats probably why Dizzy named him as his protege (along with Arutro). If you really wanna hear Jon Faddis play music, get his album called Rememberance, he doesn't play above a high C the whole thing.. listen to that, then tell me what you think about Jon Faddis musically.

Faddis is many times better than Cat Anderson was.
