Yup. Sad reality of our lives. I don't even think it's because they're not brilliant. I think the way people treat them creates an individual who's just got such a high level of emotional and social intelligence. Face it. People that have the most rewarding relationships in life are winning. These people have such a healthy self-esteem and self image, and that is the root of your mind, like it or not. You are who you think you are. There's a harmful notion throughout society that psychological or physical torment is somehow good for a developing mind in order to "toughen them up." We really need to abandon this. There are many different ways to arrive at good mental health, but bullying, intimidation, and forced reverence are only hindering that. Yes, some people turn a negative thing into a positive, but that all comes down to how they've come to accept the past trauma. That does not mean we should encourage trauma. Mentally healthy people are most often people who have maintained from an early age a reasonable healthy self image. The ones that turned it around after a belt-wielding father or numerous bullies are the outliers. On the flip side, those that are mentally ill are overwhelmingly, and as they are coming to find, perhaps in some sense invariably, people who had some form of abuse in their developing years. That could be as subtle as bad friends, and unhealthy relationships. We all take abuse from fellow people who are living in unhealthy relationships. Humans, and probably all social animals, are at their very core guilty of nothing more truly than lashing out. That's the sin of all sins. The drowning man always takes someone down with him, so they don't sink alone. And to think an unhealthy relationship has to resemble a man and a belt or the back of his hand is a fallacious exaggeration. We're effected from all the subtle ways that our relationships fail to provide us a healthy flow of love. And this isn't just romantic love. It's just when someone shows interest in you, and that they like you. Because in the end, that's all we really want as human beings. We want people to like us. We want people to care about us, even if that just means watching our snapchat story. We want to feel validated, we want to know people notice our existence. Say what you want about some people not caring what people think, but they only got to that point by coming to terms with themselves and the world around them, something that is made much harder when you have a guard up because you don't know how to comfortably give and receive love and attention. And even those people damn well want a good love life and some close friends that care about them. But yeah, Jon Heder. Great guy.

Something like the X-Box thing actually happened to me: This is early 2005. I was grocery shopping around 11pm and I hear these two guys in the next aisle doing Napoleon Dynamite impressions as they go about their late-night grocery shopping, just regular stuff like "Where's the milk?". EVERYTHING in that voice and I'm thinking "Come on guys, are we gonna do this all night?" I turn the corner to the aisle they're in...aaaaand it's Jon Heder and his twin brother...just talking normally. (Note: This happened in Studio City, CA. I left that detail out as to not give the story away early.)

Then when you move somewhere else and re tell a story like this happening people don't believe you. I was driving at lunch break from when I worked at Warner Bros right near NBC. Stopped at a stop-light Jay Leno motioned I roll down my window and told me he liked my what I had done to my '97 GTi VR6. He was actually naming off the specific things like the Euro-lights and fender flares. I was so amazed because he was driving a beautiful 57 Chevy. I was so floored I don't even remember what I said but the light changed, he waved with a kind smile and headed to work!
