It’s real there’s nothing else but you and what you’re capable of and when you live a life of uncertainty it’s invaluable to know without a doubt what you can achieve. Boxing, Jiu Jitsu, Tae Kwon do and Karate didn't save me. Muay Thai did in the end. That and just getting old i suppose. Spent the last 20 years trying to make up for all the shit i caused people. While still remembering all the shit people caused me when i was young. walking a thin line for the rest of my life and i know, any second it can just boil over and i turn back into old me. What you have to understand is that a degree of psychopathy is needed to be successful on that level in MMA. Which was different level. Duality is important for those 25 mins. Bones, unfortunately, is the real John Jones. We can present it as Bones, but nah. That mind with that toolbox, for better or worse, is what made him so dangerous. Lets look at the polar opposite; DJ. What? You think DJ didn't take walks under pressure of getting into a mindset "I have to hurt this guy"? He Just reserved it for the cage way better. Didn't let "Mighty Mouse" bleed out into the real world, into important things. In MMA your mentality has to mature quickly. If you can put that "psychopathic" mindset on a trigger to use for 25 mins 3 times a year, with a physique to match; that is a clean champion. John was an exceptional fighter, now he needs to learn how to be a man. I'm sad he had to pull out from Stipe fight. That fight would've been a fitting send off for both. And I guaran-fucking-tee you John would win, however Stipe would rub off on him. Make him mentally neutral considering how grounded Stipe is. This is why I believe he was sincere about respecting Stipe. It is natural to respect someone that has what you don't. Stoic mental fortitude. That's the last belt he's missing. I don't know, I feel like with proper guidance from earlier on , John would've been absolutely untouchable for many years after he retired.
