I don’t know about anyone else, but farmers here in Wisconsin farmland; farmers have been doing this since I was a kid. ( I was born in 1963) . We would plant food plots around our farm ponds . The wicking action of the soul would pull the needs of the plants to them . Farm ponds here are filled with all sorts of life; turtle, fish, etc.. It just amazes me that some people think aquaponics is a “newer” concept. Today’s aquaponics is just replicating what nature and people have been doing for millennia . It’s also improved to give credit. Sorry for the rant, but I run into too many people who think this is all something new.

Thanks for you comment! Yes farmers around the world have been doing for millennia, however, recirculating pumps have 10x the efficiency and effectiveness of the newer and improved "recirculating" methods as compared to what you have described. Been done for thousands of years. They still manage Lake Inle in Bhurma this way. Thanks for your comment! Thanks for watching and look out for new and consistent content coming very soon :)

@Panthera Properly run Aquaponic farms are not toxic it's a simple natural process. It's not a fish farm in stagnant water. Fish produce waste which is basically fertilizer just like from animals like cows which the plants thrive on. Fish need clean water and there is the magic. Fish produce fertilizer for the plants and plants use it thus cleaning the water for fish.

@Panthera Light is light as long as it is the right wavelengths the plant will grow healthy. It's actually possible to tune the wavelengths to more directly provide than sunlight. This concept just flows and i love it! Technology and biological life can work together to accomplish amazing things.

Since one of the benefits of aquaponic systems is that they can be established exceptionally close to consumers, I'm curious about the balance point between the scale of production, and the CO2 footprint resulting from its distribution system. At some point (distribution radius), any food production system will cease to have a beneficial impact on the environment, and one or more additional facilities will need to be established to maintain that balance. My question is: What distribution range can an aquaponic farm distribute to while maintaining a negative footprint with regard to greenhouse gas emissions? Is an 8-acre aquaponics greenhouse with their stated level of production still beneficial for the environment, or do they need to reduce production capacity at that location and start new locations near the outer radius of their distribution area?

Does we need aeration for deep water culture(floating beds) and for 10 ton fish yield how much aquaponics unit has to set
@norcalaquaponics-youtube Жыл бұрын
Good question! For smaller greenhouses 30 x 100 feet, I have found many effective ways to eliminate the need for aeration in deep water culture, however the larger systems benefit from additional aeration. The answer to your question on system size for 10 tons of fish depends on several variables, including type of system, type of fish, plants, etc. As a base point to start you could say 3:1 ratio, as in expect to grow 30 tons on plants for 10 tons of fish. This number will vary greatly depending on filter size and system type.

@norcalaquaponics-youtube Жыл бұрын
Great question! Thank you so much for your comment. Yes! This was a concern of mine when I first started in Aquaponics almost 20 years ago. However, like some many things, the answer to your question is, "it depends". Many options exist to grow Aquaponically without plastics at all. An example is my system I built in clay soil and native rock grow media. Although, using some high quality, UV stable plastic sparingly can greatly improve water savings, while reducing labor and maintenance. Our water and soilless growing media is so chalk full of healthy microbes and organisms, this thriving ecosystem literally digests and converts all hydrocarbon leaching (usually very minimal) into beneficial aquatic fungi. Fungi is often used to clean up oil spills in rivers and oceans for this very reason. Thanks again and please look out for new and consistent content coming very soon :)

ia there any chance for me to learn aquaponics? i really interested, but how i get start when i dont know where to go? pls someone help me!!!
@CuriousEarthMan5 жыл бұрын
the way to learn is to practice it while you study it. can you watch the links on youtube, of which there are many, then you can start with experiments on a small scale....starting with a small container, etc. there are videos on here that show how to start with a single 1 liter jar or smaller for hydroponics, and with a small aquarium or fish tank for aquaponics. If you try hydroponics, you can find a supply company like General Hydroponics to sell you fertilizer to dissolve in the water. you can also buy books. check on www.alibris.com or eBay.com for books. You can also go and work for someone already doing it. if you want to learn it, you must take action and try to do it, and practice. what country are you in?
@waterbearsquad75755 жыл бұрын

@CuriousEarthMan5 жыл бұрын
@UCRcQXk2dar-MT_LcgQEI2cQ ok, I think I understand. maybe you see the links for the books? I think books are easy to come by. I saw many books on Alibris.com before I sent you the link, but I don't know what language you need them in. To find someone who is already doing it in Indonesia, is there a government agency you can contact, like a department of agriculture who might be able to tell you who is doing it? They may also have a program to help you get started. maybe also, you can contact the United Nations and find one of their agencies who might be able to help you or put you in touch with someone. There are other "NGO"s (non-governmental organizations) in Indonesia who might be able to help, like a charity or non-profit foundation. I just did a google search for "aquaponics in Indonesia" and got many results. one of them is this: www.fao.org/blogs/blue-growth-blog/advancing-aquaponics-development-in-indonesia/en/ That is a United Nations agency, just as I thought there might be. There where lots of other places too teach you how to do it. I wonder how these will help you?

4-5 heads of lettuce per square foot? so you're growing a head lettuce in 5-7 days? seems like their productivity estimates are based on loopholes and the fact that they move their crops around on rafts. This system with fish only works in warm climates, it's not a world changing agriculture upgrade
@norcalaquaponics-youtube Жыл бұрын
Thanks for your comment! Yes, by staging planting times, harvest, times, strategic placement, you can harvest daily, weekly, monthly or whenever planned for. Aquaponics can actually been done in most climates and I have designed, built and grown in Aquaponics system where the winter temps drop to 15F with no problems! The moving water in the system does not freeze and acts a a thermal-mass to help keep plants from freezing. Also greenhouses can greatly extend you growing season and the types of plants grown.

I find it insane how aquaponics are advertised to have no other input than fish food. In reality, a whole bunch of macro- and micronutrients have to be added daily, in order to optain a high quality product.
@norcalaquaponics-youtube Жыл бұрын
I agree! Most people just buy and rely on non-sustainable, off-site resources. Even though things like water, electricity, seeds and plants are needed, you can provide most, if not all these requirements yourself and on-site. I use solar power for electricity, rain water harvesting and storage, make my own nutrient dense fish feed, use solar for electricity to power the system and homemade compost for pest control and any plant supplements (if needed). Thats why I created the closed-loop approach using Permaculture design to meet those needs as sustainably as possible and in some cases even supply all of them from the system itself and those are my most successful and truly Regenerative Aquaponics Systems :) Thanks for your comment

Seems like the ultimate in growing food. However, what about the TOTAL nutritional needs of the human body? The human body needs selenium, manganese, phosphate, potassium, boron, molybdenum, magnesium, calcium, and so on. Simply growing a vegetable on nitrogen is like locking a kid inside Willy Wonka's chocolate factory and expecting him to stay healthy on only one ingredient...he would be round and plump but would he be healthy? Nitrogen can be compensated for with the simple introduction of various cover-crop planting. I would be interested in seeing a refractory test done on the vegetables you produce to determine their total mineral content. The vegetables we are buying at our local grocery stores are not even REAL food; They begin showing signs of rotting in only four or five days, even while in the refrigerator. Let's see the verifiable, independent, lab results!!!
@idontgotnothin5 жыл бұрын
Idk man, the alternative being pesticide covered veggies from conventional farming, with huge amounts of waste and lower yields. It may not be perfect but I think this is a step in the right direction. Im with you on the nutritional benefits of growing in soil and I understand there are organic alternatives as well but a majority of what gets to most peoples dinner tables or restaurants comes from a place more toxic than this place. Personally, a small hobby garden in the backyard where I control all variables is ideal, but this is better for the bigger picture IMO.
