Brienne being knighted is absolutely one of the best moments of the entire series. It's absolutely a beautiful character arc for her. She started out at that dance where all of her "suitors" were having a game with her & laughing at her. She ended at Winterfell being knighted and EVERYONE there accepting her, respecting her, loving her. You really can't have a more perfect character arc than that. And I love that this episode does that for a LOT of characters. It strips away almost everyone's plot armor so you aren't sure who is gonna survive in the battle. Theon's arc comes around full circle. Jamie's arc comes back full circle with his talk with Bran. Podrick finally winning a sparring match shows how far his arc has come. Sam's arc is basically over with...he did his job reading the books & told Jon who he really is and ended up with a family of his own. Jorah's arc is basically completed...giving up position of The Hand to someone more qualified even though he had always been her most trusted advisor, refusing Longclaw cause he wasn't worthy, but accepting Heartsbane from Sam. So yeah, I really don't appreciate these scrub critics saying that the writing was horrible. Was it as good as when they had the source material to go off of? Of course not. But was it complete shite? Of course not. Plus, when you're in the endgame of ANY story the story gets simpler.

I think it’s less that Jaime loves Brienne, and more that she is everything he wishes he could be. If someone that good can see something good in him he feels like he’s finally made amends. Yeah, Jon is part of the issue between Dany & Sansa but not THE issue. The North is the largest kingdom, and Dany will never let it go. Not willingly. It makes Robb’s death meaningless (and Catelyn and all the men who died fighting for Robb) That is the core of the issue.

I think telling Tyrion he was needed for his brain was a compliment and also a more compelling argument than saying it's because she cares for him. Just about everybody going out to battle has someone who cares for them, but they don't stay out of it because of that, and Daenerys can't keep her people out because she cares about them; there has to be another reason. She lets Jorah fight, after all, and even she goes out on Drogon in the thick of things.

People really hate Danys arc, I think it was hurried a bit and the time jumping was big this season - but it makes sense to start being irritated and angry after making something your goal for so long, and then coming to a place where no one cares or trusts you… it’s like fighting winds that aren’t in your favor. And then finding out your goal wasn’t even yours in the first place. I myself saw little signs of how her mind works ego wise even in earlier seasons with her little speeches, still loved her but I did see them even if they should have been done better in a way and not for so much shock value. She’s slowly losing her grip on the amount of power and greatness she has… I think they needed to add another season of Danys rule, and her mindset and all of it, and then ended it the way they did but maybe with a child born just to continue the Targaryen line.

Without any spoliers they have been setting everything up since the first season. I always tell people to go back and rewatch the series with the knowledge they now have. It hasn't been said in the books, but I would imagine that most of the Starks buried in the crypt are just piles of bones....kinda like how Ned was in that small box delivered to Catelyn. And I don't think the Night King can raise a pile of bones. He can raise mostly formed skeletons but it would seem pretty useless to raise a stack of bones. What? Is the skull gonna waddle itself to a living person and gnaw on someone's ankle? lol Also, I would imagine it depends on how they are buried as well. Are they placed into a stone & mortar "box" with a 500 pound statue placed on top? Seems like the most logical way to do it. But maybe they're just buried behind the statue in the dirt? I would hope that GRRM does give us details about these things. In the books he does seem to hint at "Ghosts in the Crypts" and a lot of people believe that to be foreshadowing. But also, GRRM does enjoy to subvert foreshadows and "prophecy". So whose to say for sure if anything is ever gonna happen in the crypts.

Remember how Dany behaved in Dragon's bay conquering these cities, or even earlier at the funeral of Drogo. She let the people decide to follow her or go her own ways (besides the masters). Her followers from Essos chose her to be the Queen. In Westeros it's the opposite. She just demands fealty or threatens them with death and destruction - all because of a claim of inheritance. She hasn't even been in Westeros before. It's natural that most people don't come running to bow to her, especially the Northerners who chose their own king in Jon. I don't really understand why she can't see or understand this and adapt to it. But I guess it's hard to give up on a dream you longed for such a long time. It might become an obsession.
@Nihilanth2 жыл бұрын
actually, only the north rejected her. the tyrells, martells, greyjoys and other small houses all chose to support her without threats or anything alike (but thanks to tyrion, she lost all her allies). dany did the exact same thing aegon the conqueror did, but you know... she's a woman
@cherrypi_b2 жыл бұрын

And who says that Aegon the Conquerer shouldn't be critisized as well for some of his methods?
@Nihilanth2 жыл бұрын
@@cherrypi_b i mean, yes(?) did the arryns join the starks because they had love for Jon and Sansa and thought they were good leaders? all the houses that fought for Jon and Sansa in the battle of the bastards had their own ambition too. house mormort was loyal to the starks, not love for Jon (a bastard) or Sansa (a Lannister-bolton). it doesn't matter for which reason the great houses joined Dany, they where willing to make her the queen and fight for her. we never got to see how the common people in westeros reacts to Daenerys. that was a big mistake in the show. it just seemed like they were forcing us to believe she had no love in westeros but they didn't even make the effort to show any of that, besides the stinky northeners.

@@Nihilanth Yes, I would have loved to see the peoples' reaction too. But I guess there wasn't time. @nathanl.45282 жыл бұрын
@@Nihilanth They explained it poorly in the show, but Jon was the guy that lives with the Free Folks and saw how they behaved...he saw that they valued merit and not blood...he was judged for his alleged father's (Ned's) mistakes or alleged crimes...and saw people willing to blindly follow orders, or blood. And with the Free Folks, he saw different values and adhered to these ones rather than his old. So, he understood how crappy that system was, to be judged for who your father is. That illegitimate child. Dany, on the other hand, her entire claim laid on that system: blood. That's what the show tried to poorly explain.

Here's the problem with Danny giving up part of her kingdom to Jon...people within your own kingdom swear fealty to you above any of their lords. Any act of disrespect or rebellion against your Queen would be seen as an act of treason. The North is a great expanse with key strongholds to be in possession of. It's strategic to hold the North. It's also a great threat to her rule if she doesn't have it. She cannot root out treason if it's not in her Kingdom, and she's knows there's plenty in the North that would like to see her dead. She has no power to stop any conspiring unless she declares war.

I don't think you're wrong about Dany. I feel like her going to Westeros is a LOT like Frodo approaching Mount Doom. The closer she gets to the throne the more she MUST have it. Plus, look at what's happening to her. She's already lost a child. No one in Westeros seems to really welcome her....certainly not like the slaves calling her "mother" did. Even all of her allies were only with her for revenge. Olenna, the Sand Snakes, the Greyjoys all wanted her help to get their revenge on Cersei or Euron. Her coming to Westeros was the worst thing for her.

I feel Cersei was lying about the baby. She was drinking wine with Euron. And I'm sure she knows Tyrion realizes that with all of her faults, she does care about her children. So lying about having a child would make her "support" seem believable. Plus, the fact that she sent Bronn to kill Tyrion means her considering having The Mountain kill him was also a charade.
@MoreLikeMerMad Жыл бұрын
I don't think that Cersei drinking wine makes a good case against her pregnancy honestly. People have been drinking alcohol while pregnant for a loooooooong time, certainly in medieval times like those depicted in the show. I don't think they really understood that it could cause problems. Hell, doctors were prescribing cigarettes to pregnant women to keep the baby weight off as recently as the 70s!
@jimmygreer2140 Жыл бұрын
@@MoreLikeMerMad Okay, slow your role. Doctors were not prescribing cigarettes in the 70's. The only source I found was that doctors in the 30's-50's would sometimes recommend cigarettes. But you don't need a doctor's prescription for things that are legal. Secondly, you can't compare these medieval times to ours. The maesters were far more advanced in medical science than the "doctors" from the 1600s or whatever. Hell, even Robb's wife was a better doctor than those from real life medieval times...knowing to amputate an infected appendage to save a life. They seemed to have some sense of germs & bacteria which we didn't discover until much later.
@MoreLikeMerMad Жыл бұрын
@@jimmygreer2140 Firstly, I don't think that what I said warrants the tone you have here. I didn't mean to criticise, just state my opinion. Secondly, you're right, it wasn't the 70's but 1964 that it officially came out that cigarettes were bad for you (after a very long struggle against cigarette companies who were deliberately hiding the facts). I was basing my original assumption on the fact that my Grandma was recommended cigarettes for both her pregnancies, delivering in 1969 and 1971... but clearly that was not regulation at the time. And yes, I meant recommended, not prescribed. Thirdly, you aren't wrong that maesters are beyond our medieval medical practitioners, however amputation was something people have been doing since well before the medieval period, it was just not very common to survive it depending on where the amputation was occurring. But when you're faced with definitely dying and probably dying, people often choose the latter.
@jimmygreer2140 Жыл бұрын
@@MoreLikeMerMad if there's any kind of tone you find offensive it's because YOU are giving it one. If anything I am being like "calm down" with the exaggerations & let's have a proper discussion. I'm not quite sure about your claims about medieval amputations as a war time treatment. I feel like that's more of a Civil War era thing. If we're talking about like Braveheart era stuff the wounded weren't treated at all. They were left to die in the killing field. The dead would often not even get a burial. Just left for the scavengers to feast off of and human scavengers to raid the possessions. But for Cyburn to have saved Jaimie from infection shows just how advanced they were from our medieval times.
@MoreLikeMerMad Жыл бұрын
@@jimmygreer2140 If that is true of me reading your reply, then it is also true of you reading mine! Let's both calm down, clearly just a misreading of tone on both ends. Yes, after my faux pas of basing smoking recommendations during pregnancy on my own life experience and not Google searching it, I did double check with the mighty Google about medieval amputations before my previous response. It did happen! People back then were a lot smarter than we often give them credit for, partially because we don't learn any of this stuff in history class. Wartime amputations would likely have been much more common after cannons were introduced, just because of the way bones can't be fixed once hit by a cannonball. And we would have heard more about it in the Civil War (for any non-Americans, that's around the 1860s) just because more non-military people had more wartime experience and trauma than in most other wars, and would have passed down those stories in larger quantities and would have collected first hand experiences with more vested interest. But cutting off necrotic or very damaged tissue to save a person was certainly not a new invention, it was just harder to heal from and survive without a proper understanding of germ theory and infection. And yes, while common soldiers and serfs were often left to die, as field hospitals weren't really of value in such a strictly hierarchical society, people of higher ranking certainly would have been pulled off the battlefield if possible and treated for wounds. And once the fighting was over I find it hard to believe that there wasn't someone combing the fields for salvageable men. After all, they would be needed in the fields and in the next battle if they could be patched up in time.

Sansa’s beef with Dany makes complete sense. From the beginning, Sansa and Jon battled to take Winterfell back from the Boltons. When Jon was made King it was a promise that the North would never bow to any foreign ruler again, but then Jon just gives the North to her. Second, Daenerys brings not one, but two armies and two full grown dragons with nothing to feed them. When Sansa brings this up to Dany, she just dismisses it. Dany doesn’t seem to think she needs to earn the respect of the North because she’s so used to people automatically bowing to her, and Sansa resents that.
