This was very helpful. I've been in and out of the shooting industry for 37 years and nobody has ever shown me this method. Thank you for adding another tool to the skills box.

Some ring manufactures still use bottom of the ring to base. I just lay my scope on the rifle and measure scope to base top and use corresponding Weaver metal rings. Lap them in good and perfect fit. 23.99 and 10 bucks sweat equity. Used to shoot groundhogs and deer right there. Prone, sitting, kneeling. Tree and branches in the woodline, sray in the shade and shadows. Rarely missed. A friend of mine that was right there too did the same. Great videos... Thanks.. brings back memories..

That's a great way to measure. Easier than what I just did and maybe a bit more precise. Now I just need to go find some washers or some type of spacers in the garage and double check :)

Not all scope tubes are measured in metric dimensions.... Some still measure 1 inch tube diameters. But that's usually 25.4mm +/-. Splitting hairs, LOL!!!!
@area4198 ай бұрын
Anymore the number of 1” tubes sold (especially to our precision-centric audience) is quite small, but hair successfully split!

I wear bifocals and have difficulty tilting my head back far enough to look through the scope unless I mount it super high. It is my understanding that having the scope elevated will have an adverse effect on accuracy? Do other shooters have issues with bifocal/bifocal glasses? Any suggestions?
@area4197 ай бұрын
No, not necessarily. You have greater potential for issues if your rifle is off-level, but if everything is level there is no downside to having the scope a little higher

@@DEL_hunting You could also order a set of bifocals with occupational lenses. A lot of mechanics use these, essentially instead of the reader at the bottom of the lens it is placed at the top of the lens which means you would have a more "natural" position on the rifle.😃

I haven't heard of doing glasses like this, but I see how that would work! So, eyeglass places would know how to do that if I asked for that? Thank you so much for tje suggestion! @daveknowles3055

@@area419 This is an old comment but MDT did a few videos on this and there is essentially no difference height over bore makes when it comes to errors due to canting the rifle. At least for ring heights that actually exist. Even at 1000 yards with 5 degrees cant it's fractions of an inch between 1.5" and 30" HOB at least from the math I've seen.

Too low scope rings with 20 moa or more rail isnt good for shooting with supressor because you will catch a lot of mirage from barrel and can itself, even with cover.

Yeah... If you watched the video he covered that.

Did he say "freedom measurements?" Assuming that metric is somehow communist or unfree? What's the measurement used for bullets? Specifically the most commonly used pistol ammo? Sigh...
