Chadd, I'm a new subscriber who was just referred to your channel, by Joe Fox at Viking Preparedness, about a week ago. I have now made it through ALL of your videos put out over the last couple months and, I will be working my way back from there. One thing I REALLY like about your videos, other than the fact that you and I are very much like-minded, is how short and concise your videos are. They are easy to listen to, easy to digest, which makes them great for sharing with our sleeping "zombies" out there. Let's face it, many KZbinrs and other creators put out some pretty long videos and, while they work hard on these videos, they are so packed full of information that they tend to fly right over the sleeping masses heads. Their eyes glaze over and that's only if they actually take the time to START watching a 25-30+ minute video. They just don't have the attention span to absorb that much information or they feel like they just "don't have time". These 4-12 minute videos cut through the crap and straight to the point, which is why I have been sharing ALL of your videos with everyone I know.......which isn't too many people, but still. You (and your man Chili) got a great thing going on here and you got my support, so thank you VERY much brother and God bless you and yours.

I can't speak for the zombies, but I can speak for guys like me who have limited time to watch a video because of work and family. When i see a 30 minute video, I unfortunately have to pass, no matter what the content. I haven't watched TV in more than a decade. But I will echo what you say... great content in a manageable amount of time. Anything beyond 15 minutes is more likely a deep dive on a subject that will either require supplemental in-depth research from other presenters... or simply by getting out in the field and doing it yourself to learn.

@@fleatactical7390 , I agree, it is tough to find time for a longer video, but the blinded and brainwashed out there are at the point where they need to make up for lost time and need to start prioritizing their knowledge, skills and awareness of what's going on out there, otherwise their time spent working and doing other things is pointless, in my opinion. They won't survive anything if they don't invest SOME time into educating themselves, which is ultimately for the long term benefit of their families. It's no mistake that they can't find the time, I mean that's the rat race that was created for them, it's all by design. Keep the minions too busy to realize they are being slow-cooked to death.

@@lonewolfsurvival3453 Oh, I agree 100%. I was just keeping it simple regarding the amount of time. Despite being into firearms for a number of years, I have radically increased my knowledge base and training in the past 3 when I saw that which our forefathers warned us of. And that increase in focus in that area and others, has come at a cost to other things that used to be priorities. Lots of clueless and compliant puppets out there. More interested in watching SPORTSBALL and Disney+ than preparing. You're spot-on correct in all of that.

I always line the inside of my rings with masking tape. Both on the top and bottom of each ring ( inside edge of top and bottom ring halves). Make my adjustments and tighten everthing to specs. Guarantee you won't have any unexpected movement due to recoil. I learned this trick from a friend of mine who was a precision bench rest shooter.

I like to use a thin Tessa tape, it won't degrade as much as masking tape, but hell yeah great tip.

Electrical tape for me. Assuming the rings don't already have some sort of padding strip in them (most better rings will).

Wheeler makes some solid ring honing kits, I've been using them for everything I'm mounting up, I got the 1"/30mm kit after realizing some of the 6-7 scopes I bought from the same company had different tubes from the 34mm I started with, got all of them now and they're phenomenal. I'm also running a bubble level on every mount as each of these rifles are long range capable to at least 800 meters. Using a plumb bob on a line to level the upright filament on the reticle helps immensely also. Another note especially for bolt action rifles is to pull the bolt and once you anchor the mount to the receiver ensure the bolts aren't too long and protruding through the receiver which will stop the bolt from going into battery, or badly scratching the bolt. If they're too long you can get shorter matching bolts or add shims/washers to ensure the bolt clears once they're torqued down.

A rare Tech Guy appearance! It must be Christmas! One point I will make about ring height (L, M or H): there is also a "comfort" factor, particularly when you're mounting a scope on a more tactically-oriented platform (I prefer a scope, or a scope/red dot hybrid (like an LPVO), over a red dot) where you may not have the same type of cheek weld, or enough time to establish a good one. So choose the ring that best fits your physical body to make the presentation to your shoulder, cheek and eye the quickest and most reproducible. Again, I'm obviously not talking about a hunting rifle like in this video, but scope mounting applies to the other platforms as well.

Another way to explain why scope leveling matters is that your vertical reticle line has to intersect the center of the barrel's bore. Once the bullet leaves the bore, it will fall perfectly straight down due to gravity (ignore spin drift and coreolis effect for this). If your vertical reticle line isn't "aimed" straight thru the center of the bore, you'll be way off when dialing your turret or holding over on the vertical reticle line below the cross hairs. You will need a level on your scope or rifle while shooting too. If your rifle is canted when you break the shot, none of this meticulous detail will matter.
@fleatactical7390
@fleatactical7390 11 ай бұрын
Yep! I bought levels for each of my rifles as I acquired them. I always wonder if the really high-end scopes have them built into the reticle. I gotta assume so.

@baberuth031

The most accurate way to do this(in my opinion)is with a gun vise and a wheeler engineering reticle leveling system. The wheeler system allows you to plumb the rifle with the level on the flat part of the receiver to start (before you even set the scope in the bottom half of the rings). Once you establish the rifle is plumb you place the “clamping level “ on the barrel and make sure the “clamping level “ bubble and the “receiver level “ bubble are absolutely dead center perfectly level, and when that is achieved you remove the receiver level and do everything the man in the video says! The advantage of this is(in my opinion) you are less likely move your receiver level because it’s no longer on the rifle near the scope where all your adjustments are being made(sight relief, etc).

After buying a lapping kit and seeing how much a "good" set of rings needed to have removed, I'd never mount a scope without lapping the rings. I wouldn't mount an inexpensive scope without doing so, but guys spending $500 or $2500 without buying a lapping kit seems like a waste.

@@allthecommonsense That is one hundred percent correct! Moving the microphone away from the neck and lips has shown to be effective in reducing the volume of buzzing and mouth noises without the need for post-production intervention. This would potentially leave a cleaner product with less work. I call that common sense.
